The movie was recorded in February 21st 2010, at Florida Sea World Park.
Later on the movie you can see Dawn Brancheau performing.
Just 3 days later Dawn Brancheau was killed by Tilikum, a killer whale or orca..After a show.Brancheau was rubbing Tilikum as part of a post-show routine when the orca grabbed her by her ponytail or left arm and pulled her into the water. Dawn Brancheau was only 40 years old when she tragically died.
Tilikum died on January 6th, 2017 from an infection, at 35 years old.

Yup and witnesses said he grabbed her left arm. The pictures of her, IN THE WATER WITH HIM right before he grabs her shows her next to him. On a 4-5" platform or not, she was right next to him, lying down, in the water, where he easily could reach her full body... and he did. SeaWorld should have had much stricter rules for a whale that had already killed 2 people.

It's sad when anyone gets hurt, but be real - these animals do not have a bond to their trainer, as perhaps the trainer has to them. They are not domesticated animals but apex predators that are highly intelligent. They are held captive and given a few dead fish when they do as they are told. They are slaves and they want and deserve their freedom. The performances look amazing, but it's inhumane. Given the choice those animals would want to be with their pods in the ocean, not in a pool with humans.
@marialamb6781

True! Unlike with zoos, these animals are BRUTALLY captured from the wild and torn from their families. THEN put Inside of a tank which for this animal is like us being in a multi mirrored environment where we just cannot get our bearings ever. Imagine being in a place like that forever and ever and ever. 😡😡😔😔😡😡😔😔😡😡😔😔😡😡😡😡😡

I also thought the performance looked amazing & I felt guilty. Swimming with these animals must be even more incredible than watching it. However, if I cannot swim with them in the wild or watch others swimming with them in the wild it isn't going to happen, because there's far more to this than just watching the performances. The rest of their lives are a living hell & every time we pay to watch them were contributing to their pain & suffering!

Swimming with wild orca really isn't dangerous. They don't consider humans a food item.....in fact, in the wild there have been no attacks on people. When Orca do run into people (in the wild) they're often friendly and inquisitive. In captivity, however, their mental state is very different. They're not happy, they're not relaxed, they're stressed out and often depressed. They're entirely different when they're free.

It's very surprising that you can swim with these powerful creatures in the wild without being attacked. At least so far. But ultimately, they are wild animals and unpredictable. I had the good fortune of seeing one up close in the San Juan Islands just off the coast of Washington State. I was on the beach and one swam away from its pod and came close to me to have a look. It was amazing.

It’s so sad she died. She seemed like such a wonderful person, you can really feel her happy energy through the screen from any footage I’ve seen of her. I hope both Dawn and Tilly have found peace now, wherever they are. It’s honestly also sad the orcas can’t have the trainers in the water anymore. I’m sure that was a big part of their enrichment and given how much social bonds mean to orcas it wouldn’t surprise me if they miss them. Just think about how many years Dawn had been at SW without any problems before. To be clear, I hate that there are captive orcas. It never should have happened and sometimes just thinking about it is enough to make me cry. There are no words for how I feel about the people who took these magnificent creatures from their homes and put them in small tanks for our amusement and to earn money. But I don’t agree with people who act like training them is part of the cruelty too. Think of a highly energetic and intelligent dog breed-if you can’t let them work with what they were bred for, like herding or hunting etc, you HAVE to be a very dedicated trainer and spend hours every day giving them mental stimulation, or else they could never be happy. There must be a suitable substitute for the natural drives. Now imagine how much smarter an orca is than a dog. As much as I wish we could release them, the orcas can’t just be let back into the wild. They depend on humans now. So it’s up to humans to make sure they’re as happy as they can possibly be. Surely training them to keep their minds stimulated is a huge part of that.

It's a tragity for both. An animal is an animal and will behave like one. I am sure Dawn never thought this would happen. The problem is, we put human emotions on animals and predicte there behavior as a human would react. It's not just orcas but big cats, lizards, snakes and forth. Everyone who died at the hands of their pet forgot that it's an animal and will behave like one. I watched a video we're a family has a coyote and let's it sleep with their child. There are so many things off with this performance. Dawn didn't make it all the way on her stomach at the beginning of her dance to stroke Kayla....Also halfway through another trainer had to give Kayla some fish, which made the timing of the rest of the performance off. And the last thing I saw was that Kayla didn't come up on cue to do the last part. In all the documentaries I have seen, she was having slight troubles connecting during some behaviors. On the day she died, Tilly didn't hear the cue to come get food, instead he did his pectoral wave around the whole pool instead of only half, this is why he didn't get his reward (Fish) so they moved on. Tilly was confused. I know not every performance is perfect, and REALLY it's not good for these animals to be doing tricks for our entertainment in captivity, but they are beautiful animals and really I would like to see them all free in the wild. Just observing the performance... RIP Dawn, you did what you loved and we are all proud of you, RIP Tillikum, you were a special whale who YES needed to be free, but I know Dawn loved you and took care of you as well as she was taught. We just know now that the best thing for these orcas is to just let them be wild and see them in their natural habitat. As much as she loved them, I know that is what Dawn would want.

@@Theatrechick23 How can you be proud of Dawn? She was part of the corporate structure that made up SeaWorld. These animals were abused year after year. They are wild, not made to perform tricks and perform for our amusement. They belong in the ocean. You are taking these killer whales, a highly intelligent animal, that has complex social structures with its own kind, and putting them in one of the most unnecessary and unnatural environment they can be in. They can swim 100 miles a day in the ocean, and they are put in what is essentially the equivalent of a bathtub. I'm sure she loved the whales, and had alot of positive characteristics, but she overlooked the fact that keeping killer whales in captivity is outright abuse. If she truly loved them, she wouldn't have even had this job and overlooking the fact this relationship she had with them is the most unnatural type of relationship a killer whale can have. They aren't here to perform for us so we can all be entertained by them. There needs to be a federal law banning these companies such as SeaWorld to have the right to exist to begin with. People need to be educated about killer whales and dolphins in captivity and boycott SeaWorld and all companies that offer this type of entertainment.

this was actually painful to watch. Another example of man's exploitation of nature for money. Whales should be in their natural habitat, not imprisoned in these small tanks and forced to do stupid tricks with humans.

All these people in the stands haven’t a clue about what these orcas go through in captivity. They should not be used in this manner. It’s nothing more than a money maker at the expense of these beautiful animals. It’s very sad to say the least.

Gramma K you are so right it’s so sad they are taken from the ocean away from the iPod which they live with them for a lifetime they are the smartest animals in the ocean the elephant is the smallest am on my end it’s sad and disgusting and when you’re not performing there are held in a small cage with bars and given a couple of dead fish when they really hunt Seals Can you imagine being in jail that’s what it’s like for them however someone kidnapped you from your family would you like it I hate the people that Own SeaWorld I can’t wait for the doors to be closed

Each time one of these trainers interacted with one of these killer whales, they were putting their lives in danger. That looked odd how one of the trainers yanked that guy out of the tank, as if he might've been in possible danger.

I have to acknowledge the bravery of the trainers to even get into the water with Killer Whales and put their lives at risk but I would never visit Sea World because it’s inhumane to keep wild animals in unnatural environments just for entertainment. Sea world are mostly interested in making money and not the wellbeing of the Whales or the trainers.

The orcas at seaworld eat what is similar to a fast food diet. They get frozen fish which lacks the proper nutrients they need and totally cuts out their predator instinct to hunt their own food and because the fish is frozen it is severely lacking in the water content that the orcas need to survive. Keep in mind these animals swim hundreds of miles a day and hunt things as big as sea lions and even in rare cases, Great White Sharks which have a lot of water content to satisfy these large animals. Seaworld supplements the animals lack of water by feeding them gelatin which is extremely calorically dense and makes the orcas appear fatter than they would be if they just had the fish diet. But some orcas in their care are still considered underweight when compared to wild orcas. It’s so sad that it took multiple people losing their lives for change to start happening in the marine park industry. Still Seaworld has the Orcas and other intelligent marine creatures in their custody, and while they’ve stopped the circus style shows they still have the orcas perform instead of releasing them to be rehabilitated in their natural habitat. Of course Sea World will hold onto their Orcas for as long as they can because they are by far the biggest money drawing aspect of the park but it’s sad to see that these orcas could very well languish in the park for another 50 years instead of being allowed to live in open ocean.

You’re very uneducated. Releasing these orcas who have never hunted or been in the ocean would be the same as killing them
