I think it would be too thin to polish on the flat lap. I don't have a dopping station. I might put it in the vibratory tumbler. I've had success with thin slices using it.

Thanks Ange!!! It took about 3 hours to polish the rectangle just because there were 4 sides.

You can use them wet or dry but I prefer wet as it keeps the dust down.

You definitely want to use them wet as the dust that comes off is silica and will mess up your lungs. Look up silicosis.

@@lylelay you can use dry. You just need to have the proper respirator.

Some people aren't in the position to purchase thousands of dollars worth of equipment. If I did this professionally...... maybe..... I'd make the investment. But why would I spend thousands when I can get the same results with construction tools? This channel shows that you can have fun in the hobby on a budget. I'm ok using the tools I use. My drill is an older one that I have since upgraded from so instead of throwing it out I use it for lapidary.

Also....I'm an affiliate for hitech diamond.....so I promote and use their equipment.

@@RockhoundingLife I would respectfully suggest that buying vintage equipment, and refreshing it, cost me less than your construction gear did, and works 100x better. I run gear, daily, that was built from 1955 - 1975 that will still be running when newer gear made with plastic needs to be recycled. The boom of old machines made post-WWII were built like brick houses, with really simple (still easy to find) parts, they are damn near immortal. It would be good video content and promote using tools safely, for the purpose they were intended.

@@Archimark1 I don't disagree with most of what you are saying. Though my diy drill set up cost less than $100. The old drill was free. I had to buy the Arbour and Diamond pads. $70 total. I have 4 active kids. I don't really have the time in my life to get into vintage lapidary restoration. I don't actually use the diy setup much anymore since I became affiliated with Hi-Tech Diamond. Sometimes it has its uses like in this video. Not everyone has the means to obtain vintage or used lapidary gear. A drill and polishing pads is easy and everyone van do it, whether they live in an apartment or have a house. I guess the main point I disagree with you on is that I don't think it's offensive to use old or super cheap construction tools to work on rocks. It can be done safely and the wear and tear on the tools isn't as severe as you suggest. I've been using that drill to polish rocks for 10 years.
