Seamstress gets big surprise from a Secret Santa as her husband is in surgery

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until Christmas, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Barbara worked for 35 years as a nurse until she was injured trying to protect a patient. She has had several surgeries and still lives with terrible pain daily.
She and her husband Dan lovingly raised seven children and worked hard to help them achieve their dreams. She alters wedding dresses for young brides so their dream dress fits them like a princess.
Barbara and Dan live on a very tight budget with Dan doing grocery deliveries to help meet their basic needs. Barbara is also attending school to learn new skills to help improve her ability to help brides.
Dan had surgery this week to replace his hip and they are losing any money he would bring in doing deliveries. They have three vehicles but only one is functioning - just barely.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to surprise Barbara with a Christmas Eve gift. Check out the video in the player above!

As a fellow retired nurse this one tugged at my heart extra. Thank you so much Secret Santa and Nate and Crew for taking care of her and her husband and blessing them this Christmas. Much love because even after receiving these amazing gifts she wants to be able to give back more.

Retired due to health problems as well, and even if they didn't say she was a retired nurse, it's obvious, as she instantly offered her services if they need it. It's wonderful how Secret Santa helped her and her husband.

What a lovely couple. When she said, "I've never had a new car" and later "I get to drive it first" I went from tearing up to a little laugh. Secret Santa really knows how to spread the joy. Wow! As someone that's had several surgeries and hospital stays nothing beats a friendly caring nurse. As pleasant as she is I am so grateful for Secret Santa to help her and her husband at this tough time. Praying for quick healing from his surgery. Merry CHRISTmas everyone!🙏😊🙏

OMGosh!! This was so darned sweet! What a wonderful couple, and this is going to be such a blessing to them. It's so clear how grateful they are, and I could almost feel the relief that the new car brought them. Now he is going to be able to continue his deliveries, and of course the sparkle in her eyes and the huge smile when she saw the Joanne's certificates! I hope the husband heals quickly and is back home soon.

For all those Nurses and Retired Nurses, I want to say THANK YOU for who you are. I have had many trips to the ER and some hospital stays, in some cases for some very uncomfortable and embarrassing situations and those Nurses made me feel calm by your professionalism , and human by your compassion. There is a special place in Heaven set aside for Nurses and they deserve that. These are the blessings they deserve here on earth as they truly give the meaning of patient care and compassion.

Boy can I relate to her nursing injuries! After 30-ish years there’s a lot of physical damage done. Seeing a fellow nurse be so richly blessed makes it worthwhile. As many other nurses who have been injured on the job, either temporarily or permanently, I send a hug to her and a huge congratulations . And a huge thank you to Secret Santa for helping her out. Praying her husband gets well soon and is out of the hospital. BTW: anyone who does any sewing knows she’s going to need the gift card to Joann Fabric. Their prices have soared! As has so much else. Congratulations my sister. To all who tread the floors in some of the craziest conditions, thank you for your love and devotion to this field!

Gonna have ta get another box of tissues for this one. Loved that she rushed to the hospital to share such wonderful & meaningful gifts with her husband recuperateing there. The East Idaho Secret Santa program always lifts my spirits. The recipients and gifts are chosen wisely to be truly helpful. Everyone needs a hand at some time and this is such a great thing. I also like the "do something nice anonymously" as the only request so this gift of love will continue throughout the community and throughout the year.
