YES PLEASE a video about two way and four way stretch!! I am super intimidated to work with stretchy knit fabrics even though they are perfect for some of the patterns I want to make, and I love the Seamwork approach to sewing SO MUCH 🤩

I'm new to sewing and I just bought myself a sewing machine. Thirty five years ago my sister used to make shirts for me for dance competitions and she taught me a lot about sewing as I watched her. I had always been told that you MUST cut the fabric according to the grainline the pattern indicates. Fast foreward 35 years and my wife and I plan to make matching Christmas shirts. The material we plan to use on the shirt yokes has a pattern with christmas trees on it. On the yoke pattern piece for my shirt it says cut on the fold (on the grainline) and the pattern piece for the yoke on my wife's shirt indicates it should be cut with the grain of the material (at 90 degrees from the grainline), making the Christmas trees point sideways. I fretted about this for days. Thanks for your video letting me know it's ok, sometimes, to "go against the grain".

Ngl I didn’t pay attention to grain once because I always have patterned fabric and I based it around how I wanted the print to be 😅😅😅 but hey I learned a lot from this video

Thanks for the very helpful video about fabric grain. What can you tell me about 'bengaline'? I bought some labeled as a stretch woven. The stretch is on the length of the fabric. What is the purpose of lengthwise stretch?

The pattern piece should have the grainline marked on it (look for a line with an arrow on each end). You'll position it so that the grainline is parallel to the selvedge edge of your fabric.
