It was beautiful to hear what Sean's dad John Astin said about how "no one is a piece on a chessboard, every human interaction is sacred," and extremely touching that Sean tries to make all the fan interactions about the fans. Not that I think, as a fan, that everything needs to be about ME. Just that Sean Astin is an admirable person and I need to incorporate his philosophy into my own interactions with people.

It's nice to see actors like Sean recognizing the hell the crews are going through on films. Actors have long hours of course, but much of it is sitting and waiting and often what is best called 'academic' work. So while actors may suffer 14 hour days from the time they have to wake up to the time they are allowed to sleep, much of the crew is there hours before and hours after, often frantically grinding the entire time.

This was so much fun! I am old enough to remember Sean's parents acting on TV. His dad was the best Gomez. His mom was truly wonderful. Sean's acting as Sam was so right on, when I think of Sam while reading Lord of the Rings he has Sean's face.

i think Sean was really the closest to the book character for sure, partly cos of the writing and partly cos of his brilliant acting. i LOVE the anecdote about Sir Ian reminding Sean to take Frodo's hand when he wakes in Rivendell, it's those little touches that really make the movies so special

I know it's serious, but that part about helicopters had me laughing to tears :D Can't wait for the second part!

Everytime I see Sean Astin I smile he’s just so genuine. but at the same time it’s sad because he looks older and it makes you realize that we are all getting older. Love the podcast I watch every episode

46:20 given the strikes on now, this is really fascinating to hear. Pushing people to work those hours is crazy, and creatives are exploited to do it because they love the work. Kudos to Sean for carrying on his mother's legacy by helping to lead the SAG talks!
