The fact that he can go back and dissect his freestyle and draw from so many elements and so much musicality really shows how much knowledge Sean has in dance. It's insane

as far as dancers talking about their routines, Sean had such an interesting quality dissection. I love that he had a reason for almost everything he did on stage. His dancing was so purposeful.

Here’s the thing no matter how feminine a movie or dance may be, Sean doesn’t come of feminine even when he leans completely into it. Men usual come of feminine or masculine in dancing, but Sean just becomes the dance.

Red Bull DYS is about who’s the most popular dancer and the biggest crowd pleaser, not necessarily who the best dancer or battler is. They make it difficult for competitors with less popular street styles(such as turfing), and even known street styles, to make it to the finals-as evidenced by the Oakland/San Jose event. The initial bracket forced the turfers to dance against each other, thus limiting their chances to making it to the finals. Even so, it seemed as if the rest of the event were planned out to make it seem as if everybody had a fair chance. Crowd votes were ignored and the least voted for competitors somehow advanced anyways(as if it were planned from the beginning). One of the respectable names in the dance/battles scene told me that Red Bull DYS is just a show and does nothing for the culture…any true street style competitor is just wasting their time by attending these events. And I agree. No disrespect to those who’ve made it to finals, but there is no standardized judging system and that’s one of the biggest problems with these types of events. However, if you’re just seeking popularity and are a younger dancer, then do your thing and get your numbers. I’m just tired of seeing amazing dancers lose at “all styles” events. I know about a dozen dancers who could’ve taken the entire event, but didn’t even make it past the local prelims(of course, politics had a role). Smh. Gotta do better, Red Bull.

EXACTLY. I've also said it before, it's not necessarily the best who win this competition. The winner is the one who manages to seduce the crowd. It also brings more visibility. Most of the participants are "amateur" dancers because I think that the real experienced dancers have quickly realized that they will have no chance of winning.
@fazed657
@fazed657 9 ай бұрын
@@amylee5234 Influencing the crowd IS a part of battling. That's why there's a large venue. The dancers are there not just to battle, but to captivate the audience with storytelling. The dancer-crowd interaction is an inherent element of this type of show. Controlling it is a necessary skill as a dancer and battler/performer. If you want to see a more isolated battle between dancers without this same dancer-audience dynamic -- there are plenty of KZfaq videos for you to watch.

Dance battles are much less popular lately. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the disappearance of les twins and other established dancers has something to do with it. The battles aren't as exciting to watch as they used to be. And the current dancers are not real dancers in my opinion.
@Marympl
@Marympl 5 ай бұрын
I agree that battles aren't as popular as they used to be but i disagree with the rest of your comment. What do you mean current dancers aren't real dancers? Sean lew is in my opinion one of the best dancers in the world. So is waackxxxy and d.soraki. Also there are so many very talented dancers who don't participate in battles. No hate I'm just really curious about your opinion on sean lew, like do you think he's not a real dancer? Also I don't think les twins(and other established dancers as you said) are disappearing

I'm really angry with Red Bull! I thought at first that they would give visibility to real street dancers and change this environment... but FALSE, they are only looking for the BUZZ. This Red Bull competition is totally sh*t. It's not even the best who win.

Sean lew deserved that win!! He works hard and it shows! I understand your frustration for the other dancers but that’s what happens in battles, everyone’s not gonna be happy. But I wouldn’t discredit Sean he’s an amazing and unique dancer.
@coolasfire111
@coolasfire111 9 ай бұрын
First, the audience votes, its not Red Bull deciding the winners. Second, Sean is a dance prodigy turned savant and among the best dancers in the world. It's technically possible for there to be better dancers in America, or dancers of a better single style, but it is very unlikely for someone to be better than Sean across styles and pure freestyle... and he is just getting started battling.
