I'm really enjoying your content of late (not that I didn't before). The more casual nature and diversity of topics - not to mention the insight into your life and the choices/decisions you're wrestling with as you approach 50 - is refreshing. The new no dig allotment is also something I'm keen to follow along with. I'm here for it all!

With the gym Sean the way I thought about it when I stopped mine is that I can walk so there’s my cardio and I spent £30 I think on weights and there are so many videos to show you how to use them for every muscle. For the cost of 1 months gym I’ve got equipment forever

I just hit 50 this past September. I can report it's a good age to be. No longer am I very young; I'm merely a young man now, but that's not a bad thing at all. Definitely a great time for a new chapter as you mentioned. Good luck to you

Hi Séan, Here in Ontario Canada we are legally responsible for clearing the snow and ice on the sidewalks around our homes, but there's no law to clean up those slippery leaves. It seems nonsensical to me; someone could easy break a bone slipping on the leaves. We call those gray firs "blue spruce". I think most people will end up in multigenerational homes due to the current massive inflation. I hope you have a great 50th! 🎉

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Sean, and a bit of your back story. You’re so right that we should live in ‘the moment’ and not the past, the thing is the older you get there is more behind you than there is in front , maybe that’s why we look to the past for comfort? On the Gym….. do you have a ‘council’ Leisure centre nearby ? They’re a lot cheaper than a private gym and every bit as good. I go to a ‘forever fit’ class for over fifties, £5 a session and if you don’t feel like going one week then just don’t turn up……no membership fee and you don’t pay for any sessions you miss. It’s nice gentle exercise designed to keep you active. Might be worthwhile checking if there is one available in your area. Plenty of socialisation and a great opportunity to make new friends….. and no one judges you on your physicality…win-win ! All the best. R.

You just popped up today. Your blog looks interesting, think it deserves a cuppa and read. I enjoyed seeing the different house styles and masses of windows as you walked, quite different from those in this small IL town which in its heyday had so many great styles it drew me in. Yes, is good to cut expenses to the bone even when money is coming in as disability can come so quickly. Went from biking 20 mi at 50 to 6 at 58 then suddenly couldn't balance it or work manual tran car and walking was nearly impossible let alone talk and walk. Finally got med that helps this disease but isn't fun to be 66 and use a cane while people rush to open doors, get the mobility cart. Does mean I am actually going to have to hire someone to dig holes to plant the fruit trees in my back yard, that is a hard pill to swallow. If you like dogs would suggest either being a dog walker for someone older or go to dog shelter and walk or throw the ball for some appreciative pooch. Have a good month!

Having worked 12 hour shift and even 14 some silly days, I fully agree with what you were saying on this video Sean. I’ve still not seen the video of why you moved back to Wales but, it seems to be the best move. Who needs a gym membership when you have the mountains. People and their negativity in comments always makes me giggle Sean… like they know you and your whole life 🙄 I have a herniated disc at the moment but I still walk. I can only do a small distance but the beauty of the village and all it gives me makes me want to keep going. My old mum used to say “think young you stay young”. So you’ll be 50 years young soon what a privilege and you don’t look it so you must be doing all the right things. Thank you for the chat I enjoyed it ❤

This walk and chat was very inspiring by the way. We all need to take a step back sometimes, evaluate what we really want or need , then get up and start! I still dream of having a homestead, but turning 57 at the end of the month, and i know in my head its not a realistic goal , even if my heart wants it, so instead i did some changes to my kitchen and will work on a bigger garden in my backyard 😊 Quebec Canada, now hunkering down for winter with gardenning magazines and note pads!

Dear Sean, I think we are all at a point where we are re-evaluating our lives and choices that need to be made. Money is very tight and the threat of covid and government heavy-handedness has resulted in unprecedented upheaval in all of our lives. Here we sit in a mess trying to cope and make long term choices in a very uncertain time. unlike the 1940's that seemed to bring a sense of purpose of common interest, we are adrift floundering, and trying to make good long-term choices with the circumstances at hand. I did get alot out of todays post, and appreciated your candour. Trusting all will come right in the dnd. Bless you on your journey. ❤️🇨🇦❤️

Excellent video, Sean. I remember as I edged up to my 50th, I had 3 things I wanted to get done in those last 6 months, and two of them - graduating with my master's degree and moving to a new place to live happened... and the third, getting a drivers' license, didn't. But now it is 16 years later - and funny thing - the plans I had to use the master's degree in one way didn't happen, but I use it in many other ways and more effectively; the new place to live happened, and now I feel like a servant trying to run Downton Abbey, and I'm re-evaluating how to change that, and ironically it became clear it wouldn't be safe for me to drive (vision issues) but then the ride-shares evolved, and suddenly I have no more problems 'driving' where and as I need with none of the car upkeep. I got my 3 goals, but just not in any way the way I anticipated. I think you're doing some of the same right now - you're reevaluating the value of the stuff you have - and what you want and really need. If it ihadn't been that there was a tiny plot of land behind our new residence, I would never have tried gardening, and you gave me the impetus to do something rather than nothing. We all are benefitting from slowly and thoughtfully doing a little, doing it often.....

I, too, like your current videos, Sean. I like to see the scenes of neighborhoods and London near you as I live "across the pond." Some of my best experiences lately, btw, have been hunkering down and dealing with a "bare bones" budget in the last few years as I'm retired. I've learned a great deal about my spending habits and myself. So funny...in meditation recently, I see how all of us "live in the future" so much. Seems to be an inherent trait. The jackpot is strengthening the ability to stay in the moment--never easy; yet, wealth resides in that moment. I think a camera on your bike would be so much fun!! Your equipment must be very good--because the cars sounded noisy to me, too. EVs are silent, but as recent reports reveal, EVs are essentially unaffordable for the average person...to replace a battery today is anywhere from $3,000 (Hyundai) to $16,000 (Chevy Bolt!) to $22,000 and above. In British pounds: 2,500 to 13,500 to 18,500.

There are silent cars. Silent tire on road surface? I would not have thought that would happen! Electrics though. They need to honk at people just to be sure they're noticed. It's an actual hazard that they're silent!

Hi Sean As I have got older I made a few changes. I released who actually wants the perfect lifestyle. They don't exist never have and never will for most people. Having a off day/weeks just work through it. Facebook lifestyle are selective you only see the perfect holiday, car. They very rarely show you the days they runout of toilet paper. flights of fantasy my friend. I do more with less. I gave up gym and used the money to do things I enjoy. Why not? I was always told I was too thin 25years on the same people tell me I'm overweight. I have adapted the skills to just move away from negative people and situations its not easy but you will feel it. Anyway I enjoy your channel maybe you could give us some insight in to TV companies and what goes on behind the scenes. Within reasonable guidelines. Best regards David

If the mid-day rolls by and I feel I haven't got anything accomplished, I whip out my phone and focus on an outstanding item or two! The secret is by day's end getting at least as many items done as have been added to the lists. Organization and accomplishment equal good time management, Ha!

Sean. Probably 20 years ago I had a disagreement with my husband. He would work for a company for 2-4 years and then would look for something better. I said to him 'You need to find something you can stick with. With all this chop and changing your CV/ Resume will look like you have no staying power or loyalty to a company'. Well, he looked at me and laughed. He told me the majority of companies don't promote you in your job anymore. They advertise, and you have to apply and compete with outside applicants too. In order to climb up the ladder and reach managerial jobs, you have to change regularly. I worked a government job , resigned, and had my family, then studied and went to work for the council.
