This album is a masterpiece. I can’t stop listening to it. These guys have been blowing my mind since 1994 when I was in 11th grade. Wow. Every album gets better than the last. 🤘

Possibly the best active band in contemporary metal.

This one is as good as any they have done. I am not a huge fan of black metal, but I love Enslaved. I even saw them live with Opeth in 2009. Great show!

Unbelievably good - even though they have so many top albums, this may be the one that definitively does 'progressive black metal' even ahead of those.

Some bands do not compromise their sound and experiment or go further in their current musical evolution, or they go back to the roots. I think Enslaved did both here: On the one hand they never did sound THIS proggy, but the BM elements which are present harken back to their Frost sound. They never disappoint anyway, all their albums are enjoyable but here even my high expectations have been surpassed. Together with In Times their best of recent memory. This album will age very fine, in 5 or 10 years from now I guess it will be at least be Top 5, if not even higher. So far my favourite album of the 2020s. I did expect great things, but not THIS great.

Equal fav metal band of all time. Absolute perfection. This band has complete separation from everyone now.

Awesome album all we need now is a new borknagar record. Enslaved, insomnium and hellripper will be on my top albums of the year and it's only march .

Fantastic album!

Thanks for the review, listened to it on Spotify, but although the music is epic and proggy I can't get past the harsh vocals. Respect to the band for their musical prowess and steady output. I will stick to the new Ice age.

I've been slowly getting into Enslaved, and this album is the hook I needed, so darn good. I can't stop spinning this one, the Forest Dweller, Kingdom, and The Eternal Sea are my favorites for now. This will definitely be on my year end list. Thanks Pete for these weekly reviews!

Love it as well.

Amazing album. With this one, I got the feeling that every song was better than the one that came before it, with the closing title track being a stone classic!

The album is perfect. I have listened to it at least a dozen times already and I still am trying to get my head around just how damn good it is. It has been a slow start to the year for me with new material, but between this and Riverside I am loving it. Really looking forward to the new Jethro Tull, Rökflöte, in April as well. But this album is perfect.

Hi Pete. I'm so glad you have reacted to this album...by the brilliant Enslaved. I have only heard Caravans, and Forest Dweller .... both are superb and whetted my appetite for the album. Which I will be purchasing forthwith. I have followed the band from the very beginning and what a journey....they have evolved so much but still keep the original elements . I loved the band at the beginning but from Isa onwards they have blown me away. Just a little aside Pete....I think you will know but Ice Dale plays in a offshoot band called Audrey Horne. Black metal generally keeps eluding my interest though the effort goes on. Your review and Nick Franco's discussion move this onto this listening list for at least a listen or two. Once again, Pete, thanks for these weekly new product shows. Critical watching for this viewer each week.

Massive enslaved fan, one of the most consistent bands out there but for some reason, E and utgard didn't really connect with me as much. This though, is the best album since axioma imo. I have heard it a few times and I really liked it! It combines the black metal and the space rock elements really well. It sounds a lot like vertebrae and ruun.

Great album as is the latest Insomnium release.

What is the book about enslaved that Nick mentioned?

I know this is not about this album and I'm sorry to interrupt but I have some friends I talk to on the internet and they are the Norwegian band stargazer their new album is called life will never be the same I asked them if they were going to come and play in America they said they don't have any connections right now if you can turn a stone turn it the only person I could think of is you would you please give it a listen and there's two other ones that you can listen to on Spotify I think you're really going to like this the guitar tone is out of this world pushing the edge of distortion but yet great songs and vocals please take a listen and thank you

Going to see them next month with insomnium. Ordered a copy a few days ago so waiting till it shows up to listen to it. They haven’t come close to putting out a bad album so I’m assuming it rules.
