Seriously one of the most underrated bands in the history of underrated bands. 4. Night Songs (still amazing, but they hadn't quite found their identity yet) 3. Still Climbing 2. Long, Cold Winter 1. Heartbreak Station (My Top 2 are more or less interchangeable, but I think this album just sounds a bit more natural and heartfelt)

If there is ANY band that was more unfairly tossed to the side as just another glam band than Cinderella, then I have yet to hear of them. They’re amazing. And much more blues based than ANY other glam band. As opposed to most of the other glam bands who were just influenced by blues and had a couple blues songs, blues was actually a CORE element of theirs. I can’t really think of any other glam bands who’s core sound was blues. They were like Aerosmith and Zeppelin in terms of blues being a core element of the music, not just an influence

I was in my 20s in Northeast Philly in the mid 80s, and the club scene was ridiculous with Talented bands, that you could see over and over, Cinderella, Britney Fox, Heavens Edge, Metal Wolf, Surrender Dorothy, Tangier, and others less metally, like the Hooters, Bon Jovi and the A's . We were spoiled by the riches of the talented musicians. There were GREAT bands that couldnt make it, like the Dead End Kids, who were, maybe, the best of them all. What a time it was.

Thats bcs 'hair metal' term was popularised in the mid-90s by Mtv to ridicule 80s Hard Rock Bands so that people wouldn't see 80s Hard Rock as a legitimate form of music& wouldn't demand it. They were also ridiculing 70s Hard Rock Bands as 'dinosaur bands' at the time. This was when Mtv turned into a Rap/Dance/Alternative channel. 'Hair metal' is a dumb 90s term, not an actual musical style.

I heard Pete mention Faster Pussycat in a kind of throwaway manner, but their second album, Wake me when it's Over, is a very good blues rock album in the vein of the Stones, Aerosmith etc, as is their third. Anyway... I only have the first two Cinders albums, and quite frankly I can hardly put a cigarette paper between them.

Great show guys! Cinderella, a very under-rated band, certainly here in the UK. Agree with what you both say as regards the bands influences being The Faces, Humble Pie, The Stones and Aerosmith, which is why I rated them so highly. Nice mention from Steven for the old bootleg tapes. For a large part of the 80s I taped bands and sold them at Record Fairs here in the UK, using the good ol' Sony Pro Walkman. Happy Days! Looking forward to listening to Fall Fest tomorrow! Here's my Top 4 (I'll have to give Tom Keifer's two solo albums a listen) 1/NIGHT SONGS 2/LONG COLD WINTER 3/STILL CLIMBING 4/HEARTBREAK STATION

@@TranquilityFireReid I miss the days of going to tape bands, I got a real buzz out of it, but the onset of CDs saw the tapers days numbered. I saw some of the best gigs and bands ever during that 80s period. First band taped: Saxon in Feb '83, last band:Hawkwind August 1989.

Happy to hear you've come around to Cinderella Pete. Here's how I'd rank them (excluding Still Climbing, which I haven't heard much of): 3 - Night Songs (some very great moments and songs - the moody Nobody's Fool still levels me - but they hadn't yet found their bluesy swagger and too much of side B is by-the-numbers glam metal) 2 - Heartbreak Station (I loved how they really went for it and took chances on this record, trying out different genres - unflinching country rock, funk and soul tracks) 1 - Long Cold Winter (wore this cassette out badly as any other. A real formative recording from my teenage years. Very catchy singles and their strongest output front to back)

Easy one (with favourite tracks): 1. Long Cold Winter (Fallin' apart at the seams, Don't know what you've got...) 2. Heartbreak Station (Dead Man's Road, Heartbreak Station) 3. Night Songs (Nobody's fool. Somebody save me) 4. Still Climbing (Bad Attitude Shuffle, Still Climbing)

Awesome episode! And my list will be just like Pete's as well. I like all 4, but I too prefer them in order. I do have to admit that it took me awhile to adapt to the more bluesy sound after such a kick ass rocking debut, but I adapted and love Long Cold Winter. Thankfully that was the 2nd release though because the 3rd album may have pushed me away by how much more bluesy they went. So it worked out alright. But I do wish they would have given us another album like the debut and then did the next 3. But, I'm good with what we got.

I was lucky enough to see Cinderella at Donington in 1987. They rocked and played Gypsy Road before it was even released. A cool rocking band. It was a wet and windy day, but they rocked. Dio was magnificent as were Anthrax, Metallica (whatever anyone says) and to be fair Bon Jovi did a good job, especially with Bruce, Dee and Paul joining them for an encore. Great days.

Great review. I have been a Cinderella fan ever since the beginning and was fortunate to catch them in Knoxville on the LCW tour with Bulletboys and Winger opening. As far as the ranking I'm with you Pete except I would reverse your 3 & 4, as I have always felt that Heartbreak Station is their weakest album and was too much of a departure from the initial sound that hooked me. I am also a huge fan of Tom Keifer's solo albums...especially Rise which feels like a continuation of Still Climbing. So glad you finally gave them a chance all these years later and found that they were more than just their glam look.

My favorite Cinderella album: Long Cold Winter....although, I always preferred the sound of GreatWhite & Kix more. Unfortunatley all these groups got labeled as Glam or Hair Metal-ish....Other band's that suffered from this label, that I find really solid - Tesla,Tangier....the list goes on & on.

I thought a few singles were ok, but I saw them with Ratt and Quiet Riot back in 2007 in Dallas. That gig made me a fan. I saw them in 2008 with Poison. Tolerated Poison for Cinderella. They were even better the second time I’ve seen them. I’d love to see them again

when they first came out, i lumped then into the glam, hair spray Poison type bands. My friend called them Cinderfella!...but i kept hearing Nobodys Fool on the radio. I took a chance on the glammy looking album cover, and was impressed!! Hard Rockin Bluesy rock Metal. I dug the vocals and guitar riffs. Love that first album. Never did see them live, back in the day

glad you cam to your senses on Cinderella Pete? yeah i always hated the hair band badge laid on a lot of the groups cause these guys were totally hard rockin' blues based rock and did it well! awesome you mentioned Great White too, one of my favs of all time and Jack and Mark kicked ass as well as anyone back in the day when it came to blues based hard rock, AND both bands were always great live-always!! i never seen a bad show from either and seen many. rock on brother Pete!! \m/ \m/

Man oh man!! Gotta admit that I never would have imagined Pete being a fan of Cinderella. I love their music!! Back in the day I was all in with all this bands, you know: Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi, Warrant, Slaughter, White Lion, Great White, Kingdom Come, Slaughter, Firehouse, Vixen, L.A. Guns, Ratt, Winger, Tesla, etc. etc. I actually hated how they looked, but loved the music they were putting out. Cinderella in particular, cause I have always thought that they rocked the hardest and Tom Kiefer's voice was so distinctive. Long Cold Winter is my favorite album, second is Night Songs, and then Heartbreak Station, it grew on me many years after because the same thing that happened to Steven happened to me, I didn't get it at first because I found it too different from what they had done in the previous album. But now, yeah, it rocks big time. I will give more love to the last album because it kind of got lost in the shuffle for me. Hey Pete, speaking of converting, I have to share with you the fact that, although I still have my reservations towards black metal, today I decided to listen to Venom's first two albums and got properly kicked in the ass, awesome music really (have you done a show on Venom?)... but getting back on the subject matter of this episode, any chance of seeing a ranking of Great White or Kingdom Come?
