Hey, author of Search & Filter here :) Thanks for covering our plugin! It's bad timing only a few days later we released an Elementor Extension which simplifies things a bit. Anyway, just thought I'd drop by an say hi!

Paul, thank you for this review. Just got the Pro version and set up a custom search similar to yours. Now with the Elementor plugin, the setup is even simler than what you had to do (no need for that extra shortcode above the posts). However, I see a couple of little problems with the plugin. First, let me mention that I am not a coder, just a marketing guy who knows enough HTML/ CSS to cause trouble. ) So, whatever filter you select, it modifies the page URL by adding a corresponding string value to it. If you hit page reload, it does not take you to the original search page, but obviously reloads the URL with all those added strings. In other words, it does not "forget" the filter selections on page reload. Also, there does not seem to be an option within the Search & Filter plugin to add "Clear filters" or "Reset Filters" commands. This makes using the form a bit awkward. I took a quick look at their Documentation page, but could not find a solution. Currently, my only idea to get around this issue is to add a simple "Reset Form" link that points back to the original search page URL, thus manually removing the strings added by the selected options. But I wish there was a sleeker way to handle this with AJAX. Ideally, the search page URL does not change when selections are made and there is a form reset command included in the widget. Do you think this is doable?

It doesn't look like there are many styling options since it's using the 'Shortcode' widget. Will that mean it will need to be hard coded somehow or does it automatically pick styling from theme defaults? Thanks again

Hi Paul - in your video, you said to set the 'Display Results' > 'Display Results Method' > to 'Custom', however the documentation suggests to set it to 'Posts, Portfolio & Product Widgets'. Has something changed where we no longer have a single correct version of the instructions? Love your videos. You certainly put a lot of work into them.

This video still works mostly - the only thing I had to do differently was to put the [searchandfilter id="246" action="filter_next_query"] code into a short code widget rather than a text box. Even though there has been an update since this video, I found this method worked better than the new custom filter widget.

Hello, i'm using search & filter pro plugin and it's working great, but i have a question. I think it's a simple thing to do, but I'm not getting it. I live in Brazil and I'm using the ACF for a state and one for a city, we have 27 states (Brazil) with several cities. The page that I am using the filter has the state field and the city field related to a doctor, that are coming from the [Post Meta] configuration, everything is working, but I want the possibility of having a condition to display the city. Example: I just want the city selector appears in the UI when the user selects the state. When he selects: state -> (São Paulo [SP]) it loads and displays all cities from state of São Paulo. I hope you can help me.

Hello! First thank you for all your content, personally im learning a lot with you and i aprecciate what you are doing. I install this search filter, but i have a problem, if i dont select any option of the filter it appears like a non formated text between the posts, when i select any option, everything is fine again, but its a bit "ugly" that text that appears, do you know any solution for this or you know how to preselect any option of a checkbox or radio before the user charges the page, thank you!

I am definitely tempted to switch. I’m guessing from the in depth documentation that their support will probably be better than FacetWP, which is the lowest bar possible. There are several things about FacetWP that bug me and it seems like at least a couple aren’t present in S&F Pro. I’m planning a major redesign of my site soon and may at least give it a try. One question I have is can you have multiple filter groups on the same page? One of the only advantages I see right away for FacetWP is that by using individual short codes you can move them around more easily. You aren’t limited to just the standard filer on the side setup. Unless there’s a relatively simple way to adjust that with S&F Pro it would my redesign even more major.

so is there a way to add radius search via google maps api to that filter? geo location search option is essential in my case, but I couldn't find any hints if this plugin supports it.. might be a good topic for one of ur next videos mate

Hi, I don't know if this is relevant to this plugin. I am building a real estate website. I have 2 post types created in jet-engine; agent and properties. Is there a way to display on the agent's single page, a list of properties relevant to the agent. Both post types have a meta field that can be compared to identify relevant properties. (Agent.keyfield equals Property.agentkeyfield. ) Thank you.

Another really good tutorial, but even with its help I can’t get this to work. Probably because I am using an ele custom skin loop, which is not supported by s&f, but also because it just seems to speak a different language to me. Think I’d rather pay more for a friendlier experience and some handholding.

In Search & Filter's documentation for Elementor/Anywhere Elementor extension they don't state that along with configuring the Elementor/Anywhere Elementor Post widget you still need to add the [searchandfilter id=""] Shortcode to the page. I hope this helps others.

Oops, how are you, Paul? I did this whole procedure here. however when I select between genders, "Male" or "Female" appears for all genders. I did with the Dropdown Selection box. what would i have to do if i choose only "male" and only male appears for example?

Hi, When I filter my taxonomies, the results vanish.. if i refresh the page, the filtered results appear but if im using ajax, the filters just vanish. I have downloaded elementor pro and the search and filter exttension along with ele custom skins. Both the filter and the post widgets are linked together but it doesnt want to show. Can you help? I have reached out to search and filter but they dont seem to know why and blaming it on ele custom skins

About that new Elementor extension: I don't see Elementor Post/Product/Portfolio Widget in Display results nor I see Search and filter Query in the source of the post widget.

This has changed and some elements are not working for me. I wonder whether you could do a tutorial on the updated version? The main issue I am having is that the posts widget is not filtering the search results at all. I have downloaded the extension plugin that is needed for Elementor and set the search results to Elementor posts/elements. I have also adjusted the query at the post level (to search & filter) and my specific filter group. But it is not working. I am wondering whether you could do an updated video now that the plugin has changed the way it works... Thanks a lot!

I published some posts under newly created custom (post)-taxonomies and my website displays them on "most recent posts" which is great. However when i search for the taxonomie in my search bar: my website cant find anything. They will not show up on my search result page. Do you know how to solve this? In this situation i don't get a message of "no posts found" which i always get when the search term is non existing on the website. Also when i search for posts under a normal category: the search results page displays all the posts under this category.

I have a love/hate relationship with Search & Filter Pro. I've been using it for almost a year and, at first, I really didn't get it at all - it seemed way too complex and clunky to use with Elementor. However, having tried Jet Smart Filters and other solutions, I always end up back with Search & Filter Pro. Why? Because once you understand how it works, it is so incredibly flexible. For example, I use it on a couple of events listing sites and, one of the things that sets this apart is that it can work on the default sort order of the archive, in this case, an Ele Custom Skin Loop and so it's simple to set up rules like display only events with a date later than today, default sort on an ACF field event_start_date and a secondary sort order of event_title. All this it does on page load - something which Jet Smart Filters cannot seem to do - and that maybe a good reason for using the shortcode approach? My message is don't be put off by the complexity, the documentation is extensive and the answers are there somewhere, just take the time to use it. Talking of documentation, if using Elementor (and why wouldn't you?) do read the page on that specific topic, it could have you a lot of time and frustration.

Styling the filter, css, itself is horror. Also only one form possible in the sidebar or widget of the page. I need to have the filter on the right and one small on top. example. on the right filter by category, on top right of page filter by popularity. Tons of websites are doing it this way. Anyone any idea which filter they are using? I also heard some people are waiting for years on a promised upgrade to v3.

Great video. I wonder if anyone can help. I have been designing websites for several years and currently thinking of moving my site to a DIVI and rebuilding them. I would like to add more functionality and a drop-down menu (form) linked to tags and categories which directs the search to a specific page or post. The lack of custom styling is simply said the worst thing i have ever experienced. This lacks so much for the fact they offer a Elementor Addon, which just adds a Widget instead of a shortcode to paste. This is unbelievable
