It's the NRG quick release. All these cars from Facebook Marketplace have them, and crazy coincidence, they're all trash. What are the odds?

That 93 FD RX-7 actually is probably good. It’s got 138k, assuming it was running the factory engine that whole time before the rebuild it makes sense it needed one. Lifespan for a rotary engine is anywhere from 130k-170k depending on how much power it’s making, size of apex seals, whether it’s na or turbocharged, what series the engine is, and how often the oil was changed, premix, etc.

The point is, why the hell would you dump a shit load of money on an engine rebuild and sell it 500 miles later. I don't doubt the old engine was bad but that don't mean the new one is good

@@tubbs2132 Some people get rotaries because they like them. Some get them to be quirky. It's an expensive thing, many don't account for the bs you have to put up with when it comes to our cars. It's really hard to fuck up a Rotary rebuild. You literally have like, 4 things to do. Even if it was proven to be rebuilt by like 1 of the 4 places in the country that do this reputably, you should go in expecting trouble. Rule #1 of buying these things, don't hope for SHIT lol

@@tubbs2132 There’s a lot of reasons why someone would have a rotary engine rebuilt and sell their car a few hundred miles later, a lot of people simply don’t want to put up with the maintenance anymore and they can’t sell the car for $38k if the engine isn’t making solid compression. That new engine with only 500 miles is a huge selling point for anyone who’s into rotaries.

I get them for $20 at the junkyard. All of my cars. All of my friends cars. My mom's car. They have odd sizes like the H3 that fits in the space in my 79 Subaru. I have some that are 5 years old and still work great. Also AutoZone here has the cheap ones for $65-80 depending on size. I've used them when I can't drive 2 hours to the junkyard where I buy batteries.

They don’t increase performance, often removing an air bag to be able to use one, and the actual reason for them existing is really only applicable to race cars: it’s a lot harder to get in a car where the chair won’t move with the steering wheel. If you can move your seat then you don’t need a quick release. If you want the “safety” of not getting your car stolen then a kill switch is a much better option

NRG is a rep brand that has marketed itself well to younger people, so they think it's a reputable brand. They basically just make shiny, useless bolt on stuff for kids so they can feel like they are "modifying"

I drove like an asshole in my first car, a 2002 gold Accord. It was 4 people's first car before me, missing a bumper, several parts fucked up I can't even remember, struggled to get up hills, stripped flat tires. I got their asses in traffic because people were scared of this beater hydroplaning around. I was an asshole, but I won. Disgusting beaters can be successful sleepers if you're rude enough.
