I've seen their video before, and thought those two women were SO INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. I kind of felt bad for the adopted girl. I agree with your comment about the one woman making her kit private. We recently had a DNA match that broke down a brick wall in our tree. We never would have known that my 2nd great-grandmother had a first husband (and children) without that DNA match.

I was adopted (from Lebanon) and I'm very interested in finding out more about my close relatives, so even if some of the videos you react to are not very constructive, your comments and advices are tremendously helpful. This type of content is so precious and I always enjoy watching it. Thanks a lot 🙏

I agree, I’ve been researching my family genealogy for 2 years now and I have definitely come a long way and discover a lot about my family. On one side of my family I was able to trace my 6th great grandmother who was a slave. But it really sucks when people make their profiles private or family trees on ancestry private because most times they’re close relatives and it’s hard trying to break through. But I’ve learned to message them just like you proving a possible connection. Unfortunately some are interested and some just don’t care to know. In my mind it’s like why do a test, you could help a lot of people looking for their families. I agree CM number can give more of closer relationship.

I helped one of my matches find his birth mom. Turns out he is my 2nd cousin once removed. It was really cool to work the matches and figure out where he fit. One thing that was confusing to me was that he matched two of my 2nd cousins at about the same cM as he matched me - but if he fit into the family the way I thought he did, he would have been their 1st cousin (once removed). I did a little more tree digging and found out that my great aunt had been widowed and left with two infant sons. Her second husband adopted the boys and they took his surname. My known second cousins were through the second marriage. That explained the (lack of) difference in expected cMs - they were half first cousins once removed. I was able to tell him who I thought his grandfather was, and connect him to someone who would know more. This story has a happy ending, he met up with his birth mom and half siblings and they all got along great. Hopefully this was less babbly than that video. Do you know anything about the new show Nancy Grace is involved with? It sounds like it may focus on forensic and/or genealogical DNA in crime solving.

More than likely, it was that the child ticket was free. In the states, lap tickets for infants usually doesn't cost anything. Also, babies ARE left at orphanages in baskets and in the baby drop box in Seoul. The big problem with this though is that they're putting the matches on the spot and that could spook a match into silence. Their video is awkward. Adoptees and NPEs have better times finding their family members without that kind of "help". Adoption maybe NBD in America but, in Korea its still very much stigmatized.

An adoptee is often fearful about the mere possibility of meetings with real relatives but actually it is a natural right and only unnatural restrictions can interfere. I wish you courage and blessings if you are searching. My friend found her mother's name and then backed out of the search. She has put it off for maybe another year....

idk how it is now but at one time in Korea children who where fathered by foreigners where either left at orphanages or left out to die. This is why so many came to the US.

So far as min 15:10 I've cringed so much, I think if I do it one more time I might freeze that way lol... (not for you, but for the two girls on the left... even the adoptee is like... what are you even talking abt). Pausing again at min 18:32.. yes, that map is to where the persons who took the DNA "are currently located" or where they "call home" so it may be very well many of those persons are descendants from adoptees, as thus far they have not compared person to person (or used the advanced dna comparison tool), it would be hard to tell... so far they just seem like a joke to me more than actually helping their friend find her family Pausing yet again...min 25:06... she might want to upload to Wegene, which is "specialized" for "Asians", I think Korea has one DNA lab, but I cannot recall on top of my head...

I believe that 23andMe does sell to Korea but probably not many people test there... also 23andMe is not really international, only English and most forms with American units only btw they just updated the ethnicity results... and they suck a bit...

I'm quite unhappy with some of what 23andMe is doing to remonetize old testers interested in genealogy. I think my feelings about this are quite in par with Robert Estes from DNA Explained - dna-explained.com/2020/10/26/more-losses-at-23andme-including-no-ethnicity-update-for-v2-v3-or-v4-chip-customers/

Generally speaking, asians are not as obssessed about their origins as caucasians. So what if you know where your ancestors came from.23andME is not suitable for asians as their data pool consists of mostly european DNAs. Wegene might be more accurate.

🙄 most interesting piece was your interjection of “what a 4th cousin” really means & your clarifying the difference between making your DNA intel private or public on 23nMe site ...so much is of this is her friends trying to “create content” .... not really any ‘genealogy relevant’ conversations or ‘genetic matches’... which suspect was what Lisa did the test for...a lot wasted time listening to meaningless dialogue (‘content’) by the boundary-less who found themselves hilarious just give Lisa HER 23nMe findings & let her read& research & decide what is relevant & share worthy ... Hope Lisa watches this & consults w-you cuz I liked your suggestions

Oh goodness, their vid was the most cringe dna results vid I've ever watched. Painful. I felt secondhand embarrassment on behalf of Lisa. They even shot her down and ignored her when she said 4th cousin was not relevant. I know it was "for entertainment" but it's not entertaining if you don't understand what you're doing. And why did they print the results out like that? I agree that some matches can really open doors, for example I discovered a whole branch of my dad's great aunt's family that left England for the US, the match was a 3rd cousin & had a tree linked to their profile and it was a _revelation_ . Then with another I've also been able to look up a name on ancestry of a cousin and back trace them to find where they link to my tree (funnily enough they turned out to be 2nd cousins to the first person but from a different line). On the other hand, I have matches with people who have filled in nothing, not even a rough area they are from (not even a country) let alone surnames or town; I get that some people are adopted or have holes in their tree (we have a fairly confusing jumble surrounding my mum's father) but in that case just put that in your bio because the people you match with may be able to help you even if you can't help them. It's a lot of money to do these tests so I don't really understand people doing it and not getting involved in it, especially now 23 & me have their little tree function too (although that has caused much confusion too really so that's also a user beware situation).

Perhaps you should check out other videos on their channel by people that you are watching the DNA tests of. These ladies are amazing. Joslyn is the brunette. Lisa, the adoptee, and Lily the blonde. The were originally part of clevver media, then it's parent company went bankrupt so Jos and Lily along with the former manager of clevver all started this company. They are and Cover a little of everything. It's an entertainment channel. To be completely honest this is not the first time you have come of as a tad bit arrogant and better than. I completely understand that you're a professional genealogist. But remember these people are normal everyday people doing the tests and reading their results. Not everyone one is educated on areas of the world and places where they may be from. I personally have done my own DNA test, and have been building my tree on ancestry.ca for a few years now. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable but obviously not a genealogist. All in asking is for some more respect for the people that may be not doing it to "your standards".
