Hey Russell. Yeah, a little early for splits still, except for this swarmacedure. LOL I did find one around the corner at #28 that had swarm cells and I did find the queen and made a couple splits off of it. The rest of them had light drone brood build up, but not quite there yet. I'll get on them again next weekend. Thanks for watching.

Hey Gecko, yeah, I know I will need the good luck. lol My queen success rate isn't the best around here for some reason. I didn't find any swarm cells until I got all the way to hive #28 and I did find that queen. She was yellow, so a 2022 vintage girl. I moved her out into a nuc, and pulled one other swarm cell split out of it. I will do some follow up videos. Thanks for watching.

Glad to see you back! I hope the C clears up fast. I disagree with the 2ft/2mile saying. I lock em down for 24 hrs, open up in the evening, and stuff the entrance with grass when I open them up. I never have a problem. Thanks for sharing

Watch the location where you move them from when you open them up. Even after 24 hours, field bees will return. I don't cover the entrance like you do though. I've also relocated a hive about 20 feet by moving it 3 ft per day.

If we could get some warm weather consistently things are going to explode. I’m supered for the most part. Have not got all my splits done but added deeps to the singles from last year and have new queens ordered. This year has been way busy but hopefully we can get it all done. Take care. Be well.

@JeromeBeeFarm

Yeah, I've seen them go back to their original location before, even after a 24 hour lock down. I think the key is to make sure you have plenty of nurse bees that won't be flying yet. I did a combine before winter one time and moved a single deep on to another single deep and had them locked down with that double screen divider, and I opened it the next day and a bunch of bees showed up and were flying around that empty spot where I'd moved it from. This lingering cough is hard to kick. My poor wife is worse off than I am.

Another good way you could have split these Is the demaree method but you need the queen to put down the bottom and the rest above the supers then you go back a week later and get rid of the queen cells but in your case you still can make 2 colonies on the same hive using queen excluders or a meshed bottom board so the temperature keeps everything in order for eggs and larvae, looking at the demaree method I quite like it to make strong colony for the honey flow ahead. Look for the bee whisper he has videos on this , up to you. 👍
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 3 ай бұрын
Hey fishmut. Yeah, I've looked at the Demare method and it looks really labor intensive and a lot of possibilities for missing a queen cell. It would be something cool to try on a hive or two though. My crazy schedule, sometimes I can't get into the hives when I want to, even when trying to keep up with swarm cells and normal splits. Last year they got away from me and I had multiple swarms. So far I'm ahead of it this year. Thanks for watching.

@@JeromeBeeFarm …No worry’s , when you put the rest of the bees up the top because they are seperated from the queen below far away from her colony down in the bottom box they will naturally make queen cells that’s what you want them to do ,when you go back 7 days later you wipe them all out unless you want them for other purposes , after that they can’t make anymore because any eggs in there are to old so you still have a big colony intact , it’s a great system once you have done it but you will need extra boxes and frames to add in between the bottom box and the seperated colony you put up top away from her , queen excluder to keep her down below of course , at some point try it with just one colony and see how you go , revisit the demaree method videos for a refresh if you decide to experiment with it , I recommend it but everyone has their own way and that’s fine to ,got to do what you like and works for you , take care happy bee keeping

Very curious as to why you put the queen cell in the same side as the virgin queen
@JeromeBeeFarm

I think I put one cell in with the virgin queen. I do that for higher success rate. I don’t have the best luck with mating queens making it home. Thanks for watching.

Hello Darron it is good to see that you are filling better an you have got you head above water . Talking about water I saw where you all was having some bad storms here the other day. I hope all was good with that . That apimaye hive do you remember about how much those are .??. I need to ask you for a favor. You had sent me the link in those rubber gloves that you ware an I can not find it also I looked thru your list of your stuff an I did not find them in there so can I please get you to send that to me again???. Thank you so much . For some reason this video did not come to me I just happened to see it over in the other part where all the other videos are 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. I found that I had two hives that did not have queens at the opening of this season an still working on one of them to get fixed but I think it is about there . Thanks an I enjoy your videos you also make them fun to . See you on the next one . Thanks

Why not leave the virgin queen in the hive,and put the swarm cells in the nuc?

You can do it that way too. I prefer to keep cells with higher population to keep them warm in the spring.

i started my beekeeping adventure with OG covid in 2020. my first nucs were coming in the weekend i was recovering so i naturally couldnt go pick them up myself. had to have a friend get them, and then meet them at the location they were going to live at. and i should NOT have been driving, in a stick shift to boot, but i did.. and i dont remember doing it at all. you'd figure your first nucs would be a memorable experience right? not me! pretty sure i woke up, drove there, came home and went back to bed. oh, and then 3 days later it snowed on my freshly installed nucs, and i DO remember thinking my bees were going to freeze to death. so naturally i have 30 hives now, lol

Hey Time2Fly. This is my second go around with covid. I dont think I had it as bad as you though sounds like. Although, I did wake up on the bathroom floor the first time. I remember thinking, gosh, I must be really tired to fall asleep like that on the floor, but then I later discovered a cut on my eyebrow where assume I hit my head when I passed out unconcious. lol Also sounds like you're a victim of the bee math. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 . . . . LOL
