Jumble Hole is a beautiful woodland valley that sits on the boundary between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, and was once the boundary between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
With a river running through it top to bottom, the Industrial Revolution saw a number of mills littering the valley, using the water to generate their power.
A Century on from the closure of the last mill, what, if anything, remains in the valley today that is evidence of the industrial past?

Hello me again ! Had a pal who lived on underbank Ave back in the 80s , always messing around up there , i can remember somewhere near the top of the lane just before the lane splits off think its near the bridge , anyway there was a house up on the hill opposite side of the river which had somesort of cable way zip line set up remember seeing a lady parking her car then loading bags of shopping on the cableway and sending them up the hill ! Then set off on ft to the house . Obviously we didn't wait until the lady was within arms distance of retrieval of said shopping before we hauled it backdown that would have been very mischievous and unfair 😅

Just wondering, where did you got your information about the water keepers cottage, it looks like a really cozy little place and would be nice if someone could save it. I wonder if it’s owned by anyone or could you just go there and start rebuilding it?

It's a whole ago since I did this one, but probably from rootsweb or such like. I'll try and find out. As for rebuilding? Not the foggiest! Though someone owns Staups Mill further up ...which is why it's now sadly been demolished to a tiny wall...so they could own the lot?

I had an ancestor - Henry Halstead who lived at Spa Hole and was an overlooker at the mill in 1851. Did you get to Winters?

Hiya. That's interesting to know, thank you. Fairly sure I did cover Winters but can't remember without watching it back. 😊

Did you find any information of what's been happening with Staups Mill? Is it the land owner worried and making safe or stone thieves? There's been a few derelict farms that have suddenly disappeared from the landscape, most recently one that overlooked Baitings that has now been completely removed.

I haven't, but I know there's a lot of anger at the fact it's slowly disappearing. Such a shame as its a beautiful spot to find....

@@matparks08 it's tragic, just happy I got to photograph and document as I'm sure you are before it's lost to all if that is indeed what's happening

I think it's privately owned and isnt a listed building. Im suprised the council didnt buy it. Not sure how much its worth as a pile of stone but the remaining building was priceless.
