An awesome week exploring the British countryside in Oxfordshire, although my search was centred around badgers, I saw so many amazing different species instead!

Brilliant video Olly. The Owl capture was incredible. Shocking statistics with Badger culling. Senseless operation has to stop! Great work👍

Great vlog, and you had some decent encounters, and best of all you'll be in a good position when and if you return, to set yourself up and try and find new places for the Badgers, and put yourself in the right spot for some of the other species you saw, it is never a wasted journey working things out. Also, nice and refreshing to see someone not doing a million kit reviews, a few here and there are fine I think but for me it is all about the wildlife, and the process of finding it!

Thanks so much for the kind comment! I’m glad you enjoyed it and you’re totally right, so often I don’t see exactly what I’m looking for but when there’s so much more to see it’s still so enjoyable!

Thanks! I used to think England had rubbish wildlife but it just took me a couple of years to find some good spots and learn the fieldcraft to find it, maybe it’s the same in Ireland?

Hi Olly I realised early on that Badgers can see the IR light on the camera and will spook them, they actually moved my camera and laughed as they did it, but they settle down and won’t worry once they realise they’re not a danger. I get them in my garden every night they come in after birdseed and peanuts, where I live on the Hertfordshire Cambridge border we have a large Herd of Fallow deer with White Harts amongst them. Keep up the interesting vlogs.

Hi, that’s really interesting! I did notice the badger in one of the clips did seem to pick up on the trailcam so I wondered if it was putting them off and I’m still not 100% sure the sett wasn’t in use but I’d have thought I would’ve seen more of them if it was, what do you think?
@dougson56
@dougson56 Ай бұрын
@@wildlifewitholly I think they have one hole which is an escape route only, but you should see their well trodden route through the grass, we have several setts either side of us, one of which has such large holes you would be forgiven if you thought bears lived down there. They’re opportunistic feeders and know where to get protein from, they can smell peanuts from quite a distance just try spreading a few in front of the trail cam and you need them to walk towards the camera so it has time to activate another good reason to spread peanuts. Good luck.

Thank you! :) I’m using the Ceyomur C60 and I think the other was an Apeman one but I don’t have it with me so can’t quite remember. The Ceyomur C60 is great quality footage but I don’t pick much up on it so I think it is missing a lot of things unfortunately. Most of the footage on this video is from the other one.

I would be a bit nervous photographing a Tawny Owl chick knowing what happened to Eric Hosking, a famous wildlife photographer, loosing an eye to Tawny Owl. I do agree with you about feeding wildlife under the circumstances you mentioned but oddly not if photographing directly which does seems wrong. Also agree what you say about badgers but wouldn’t rely on any potential government to do the right thing when it comes to wildlife.
@wildlifewitholly
@wildlifewitholly Ай бұрын
Ah wow I hadn’t heard about that! I suppose with any wildlife there’s always a slight risk, I’m sure even a roe deer could do some damage if it decided to! Yes I wouldn’t want to have put the peanuts out and then photographed them but for the trailcam it felt a bit different - I only did it for one night in the end and didn’t put many out so I’ve got a massive bag leftover 😅 I’m crossing my fingers that the next government will do the right thing but not convinced!
