+Wiremu Winiata Not a good idea. If you noticed in Season 6 episode 5 Vanessa defended Theo to them on his dyslexia. Season 6 episode 3 Theo defended Vanessa concerning the drinking and too much pressure. Hinted about the not talking to her about that. Season 7 episode 3 or 4, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and Rudy teamed up and got on them about they do to them too. Also Cliff tall tailed stories. Clair ended up siding with the children. Clair is a hypocrite the way she bend over backwards for Sondra and inferior to Theo until his dyslexia and not giving Vanessa recognition and she gets good grades. Also she had some trouble, but she learned her lesson like Sondra. Sondra had some trouble too but Clair was hardly harsh at all with her. Denise had to use some trump cards to make her point.

@SilverWolf4426 жыл бұрын
I know it's an old comment, but wanted to explain. If you're talking about Rudy wearing lipstick when she was trying to go to the Exchange club. Claire handled them the same way. When she found out Vanessa was wearing make-up, she told her no makeup until she was 15. That was it. The grounding happened after Vanessa deliberately chose to wear makeup the next day -being hardheaded. When Rudy wore the lipstick, Cliff & Claire made her wipe it off. No makeup for her either. But she went behind their backs again, wore makeup & went to a club. Then their punishment for her was more creative. lol

What year was it when you were 13? This was was 1986. So it might have been acceptable during at your age depending on the year and how your mother felt about makeup.
@abigailsanchez77226 жыл бұрын
Mo To I was not allowed to wear makeup or date until I was 16 and I was only allowed to wear soft neutral colors, no dark reds or black. I thought my mom was overly strict compared to all my friends mother's who allowed them to wear makeup and date when they were 13 and some 12 years of age. It wasn't until I became an adult that I understand the reasoning behind it without my mother explaining it to me. By the way most of my friends that were allowed to wear makeup and date at very young age ended up becoming teenage mom's. Enough said. Thank you mother.
@abigailsanchez77226 жыл бұрын
Mo To No that's were your wrong. Dating at 16 is a conservative age, I was already a junior in highschool with good grades. And no I never made her a grandmother until my late 30s. So you're wrong.
@abigailsanchez77226 жыл бұрын
Mo To You don't know that because you don't know all of the teenage woman of the work that dated at 16, so you truly can't say that. However, every circumstance is different and it all depends on how involved a parent is with their teen. It's about good parenting and good parenting is not allowing your teenage to do whatever they please and it also means not being overbearing. You can't raise your child in a bubble and expect them to come out perfect. That'll will blow up any any parent's face.
@CJWJR6 жыл бұрын
There's usually a reason why parents make rules. In this case it's because a 13 year old girl needs makeup about as much as a 5 month old needs an iPhone. It's also about the principle: obeying your parents because they know what's best for you. After all, they've been around a while longer than we have, and have learned valuable lessons and have gained invaluable wisdom. Just food for thought. :)

I think the issue was that Clair found some make up that Vanessa had in her purse (well, Rudy found it and gave Cliff an impromptu makeover). Clair made it clear that Vanessa is not to wear any makeup until she is 15. Vanessa disobeyed and put makeup on at school and that's why Clair is mad.

If you don’t want your daughter wearing makeup, lead by example. (Or maybe just maybe compromise. Let her cover up her acne with skin tone concealer. A little bit of freedom will do her so much good and she’ll be less likely to fight you on makeup.)

When someone asks me about my favorite scenes, I'll usually start with Theo and the earring...then I'll mention the Denise and Vanessa fight scene when they "took Cliff out!" But Vanessa...when she went to Baltimore to see the Wretched...and Claire lit into her...I think that one tops all of them! Vanessa was truly special!

Vanessa was the most mischievous one. She stayed in trouble more than Theo

Vanessa never did anything the rest of us teens didn’t do in one way or another. She just always got caught 😂

It is implied that Claire and Bill hated Vanessa's female classmates.

This show teached people values and was really funny. Unlike nowadays shows teaching children to disrespect parents and parents to be weak in front of their children. The word is definitely falling apart

After reading a few comments...ALL i know is if some of y'all had said those comments in the house I grew up in, y'all wouldn't be here today commenting. Y'all must be YOUNG to be talking like that. Nobody over the age of 30 would DARE say some of the things you suggest Vanessa should've said to Clair. #YallBeKissingtheFloor

Damn straight! I wish I would have fixed my mouth to say some of the things these young folks say to their moms today. Even today I wouldn't say those things.

How could a mother tell her daughter not to wear eye shadow when the mother is wearing eye shadow? Like mother, like daughter.

Nowadays countless 13-year-old girls wear makeup without question and even have KZfaq channels showing people how to put it on lol. Oh how the times have changed!

This was and still is a great show. This is also a teachable moment. Have you noticed that Claire said she bent through this with all of her children at the age of 13? So she know that her children will go through things. They just try to cut it off before it happens and when it happens, they deal with it right away. This is also something that parents can learn from when dealing with their children. no beating was involved to correct Vanessa and there was no abusive language involved also to correct Vanessa. A teachable moment especially because they know about peer pressure. And that’s why Dr. Huxtable said what he said to Vanessa. So there’s no excuse for peer pressure. Teachable moment
