Join me in discovering the backstory and origins of Season 4's main villain as I play through the Lichdom game!
Spoiler Alert: The villain's a lich. Hard to have guessed, I know ;)
And no, this is not the RPG system I’ll be using in season 4. This is more like a one-off prequel :)

I’m all in for “astromancy” being a part of the world! Also, side note: the short fade to black transitions felt very nice as a breather between the action. I thought you’d appreciate the feedback 😊

I was so invested that this felt way shorter than 25 minutes. When I thought I couldn't be more hyped for season 4... I haven't played any of these "journaling games", but this one has definitely caught my interest. It seems like a very cool way to give depth to your main villain. I'm very curious about the end result and how you will convert it to your own system. Looking forward to part 2!

Someone might have already mentioned this, but a vizier is an advisor or minister. I think you meant Emir, or maybe Sultan. Moz-Taroth would likely have been a vizier himself. e: Who knows, maybe it's a parliamentary system and the Vizier is just first among equal ministers.

I like to imagine the red waste gets its name from its iron rich red sands. In folk lore the sands are stained by the blood of a great war or even of a god, that has now made the ground infertile and sandy a waste land.

This is a man so tricksy that two viziers -- trusted advisors to the leader of their nation -- fell for his maneuvers. Which also suggests that they weren't great picks for the role of vizier in the first place. Maybe they thought, "Hey, great Gilgamesh had wild man Enkidu as a best friend, and this fellow is a wild man. This shall be a legendary friendship for the ages!" And it was, sadly for them.

I could be wrong, but didn't we already have something like a temple with the name "Zeroth" in season 1? If so, then you could establish a link between him and the older setting material.

Man, it was incredibly creative to use one game to create the antagonist of another! Leads not only to fun in character creation but to a more fleshed out and interesting character. Really cool, Trevor!

So I just looked it up to make sure, and fire in magical systems is generally considered to be representative of transformation, of energy used in creation, and of inspiration. All of that really feels like a great summation of what magic does in general in a fantasy setting. (Also a pretty good symbol for the Mythic GME!) So by the end of part I here, our lich-to-be has gathered abilities to open space and time for viewing, to summon beings of the Outer Planes, and now has the ability to take inspiration and transformative power from the cosmos. Whoever the hero is this time, they're going to need more than a magic crossbow to win in season 4.

Ooh that's cool yeah! Come to think of it, that could work pretty well for a Blades in the Dark villain... I've never tried playing Thousand Year Old Vampire in a fantasy setting, could be great.

This is so weird. I've been re-watching Season 1 while I do miniature painting, and I got to the episode where you mention "yeah they definitely aren't fighting a Lich, because Simon would probably be dead." And while re-watching that episode I thought to myself "it would be cool if a Lich does pop up in Season 4, or another season at some point." Perhaps it is some kind of dark prophecy at work? Who can say, other than the fact I'm excited for the new season! Plus it reminds me of the Lich from Warcraft 3 which was one of my favourite characters so, its a win win :D

I love everything about this video, and I can't wait to come back to it in the lull between seasons 4 and 5 (or, heck, 5 and 6, etc.) with the knowledge of what happened and how it all came to be, like how I feel when I see Arne or Edbert being rolled up on UNE in the first episodes of season 1. Thank you, Trevor, for always entertaining and inspiring me!

1. this kind of main character mini-game is really cool. its almost like expanding the mini-game of character creation in traveller. are there other micro games like this? 2. i love listening to these in the background. it's like brain juice.

Great video! Eagerly awaiting for the continuation. There is a worldbuilding system in the book that could provide additional legends and interesting places for the game, if you are interested :)

This was great! I appreciate the planned ad spots. I'm not sure about my thoughts, but I think it might worth considering going without a "blackout". As long as there is enough of a buffer in between shots, the ad placement might be fine and a video without ads (that might have been downloaded for offline viewing) wouldn't have that blackout spot. Just a suggestion!

This felt so effortless but I know you did a ton of work prior to and behind the scenes of this episode Trevor! Thank you so much and what a wonderful twist for season 4. Having the villain effect the world ahead of time really ups the stakes to whomever the hero will be. I personally hope this season’s hero will be a sorcerer type and be tempted by the villain. Will he resist? So much good story hooks with this one!

Can’t wait! Alas, because of life I’m just finishing season 1 but I will be burning through the other seasons before this. And yes I’d love some Arabian flavor in this season. Al-Qadim is such a cool setting maybe we will see some creatures and other influences from there make an appearance? Also love any Conan or Lovecraft (the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred) influences! Exciting! 😊

Mot-Zaroth sounds something R.E. Howard would use (un)Dead lich ex-Master and ex-freind/rival sound like important NPC to play Deus Ex Machina role in the season 4 finale Hell yeah! Al-Qadim time, baybeh! Rumblings of a DM go down below be warned... I would believe that Mishapped Spell on 8 of clubs would be something an ex-Master taught Mot-Zaroth before being killed, something like a last laugh from the grave or in that case gave directions to the monks 'cause he knew they would deal with him one way or another Demon Sat-Ubel sounds like a cool mid-campaign boss or an unexpected ally if tricked and could be used in a fight against Baal-An

Fun fact: Mot-Zaroth was the nickname he hated and ended up sticking to him. He dissapointed his family because of his addiction. They used to say he would ROT spending all his gold with his favorite pizza topping, Mozzarella. Mozzarella + ROT = Mot-ZaROT[h]. LOL.
