Love how Rahdo is disappointed at “losing!” 😂

My daughter and I have a ton of fun competing with each other in games. This isn't Descent. We love cooperative games as well. It's so mild compared to other competitive games. I would recommend it to anyone.

i think the best way to play this game is with 3 people. also the expansions are great! they add really good stuff^^ it is way more balanced out now.

No one mentioned this but I have too. I love this final thoughts because you showed the end of the game (imaginary or not)! I have seen you add a 4th Video for end game... why not just add an end game to the beginning of all your final thoughts... brilliant! ;)

I get your point about how nasty the game can get. Once I had to figure out a way to make some points every turn because I knew that either when the turn ended or the season changed I was going to hand out points to other players. I kind of like it, though, because it can really make a difference in your strategy Turns out I was the the winner on that occasion, by 2 points or so, but I couldn't tell it until we actually counted the points. I saw that happening here again, I like the tension :)

I appreciate the unbiased run through of the game I'm considering purchasing this to play with my friends and I think I might.

It is a great 2 player. My favorite of 2012!

I think it is important to note that though there are some attack cards (some of the familiars) there are answers to most of them and good points as well if you know how to handle them. I have played a few hundred times now and have picked up a lot of strategies. One card (Sy) makes you sacrifice a card. If you see him in the draft and know your opponent has him you can use him to your advantage and destroy a card you don't want and free up some summoning space. Other fams can be coped with.

+johchadow yeah, i suppose so, but that would be removing a LOT of the cards and i would worry that it would really mess up the overall balance of the game...

Is there a more thematic alternative in the area magic & spell casting?

I've been waffling on this game for some time. The good thing I like are the nice large dice and the art. It also is quite a gamer's game. However, it is a long game for what it is, and I feel that there is a lot of card reading which will drag the game, at least in the initial games. Bookkeeping is also an issue, but this can be mitigated by good card organization on your tableau (ie. an individual playmat with locations of one shot cards, cards to be activated, and continuous effect cards)

I got to play this a few weeks ago at a meetup. We played with 4 and I enjoyed it, but it kind of dragged. I can see why people say this works best with 2.

have you considered only playing with the peacefull cards and removing the attack cards, like they suggest also for beginners in the rulebook

I find this game to be totally unplayable with the standard rules especially in 2 players. Basically, in order to win you must always take the extra card(s) when you have the opportunity. The value of an extra card played is to high in this game and the 3 cards each year don't add a strategic direction to the game. We now play the game with 4 cards each year, but keeping track of all things in the game is a chore. In the end you have two options: you either play the game on BGA (and get over it the big imbalance extra cards add to the game) or you buy the game (and playing this game becomes a chore).

By the way, this game is wonderfully implemented on Board Game Arena, and anyone watching this video can go there and try it out, including ten cards from the Kingdom expansion. Doesn't feel so bad to unleash that electrified bunny on a faceless stranger over broadband as it does on your saucer-eyed wife!

In reality what I want are those large chunky dice....grrrr... Oh well, it will have to wait after Rialto, Augustus, and possibly the Palaces of Carrara, which have a higher priority (some of them due to your videos!)
