Thank you Autogefuhl for saving me from watching depressing news reports and boring evening tv! I've been anticipitating this review from some time and can positively say i was not dissapointed by the review or the car. I thought it was excellent infact! And i'll have the ST with the sports seats and orange pack if no one wants it.

pretty much the same here ^^ and I really like it probably more than this one version... specially the performance rims. which are a pain when you need summer and winter tyres to find something that fit with the brembo. there are some minor changes that I do like but I would wait for the virtual cockpit, the price to go down, and by the time something else would be out already ^^

Yeah, I know what you mean... the Brembo brakes are a huge pain in the arse in that aspect and Seat only seems to provide the ridiculously expensive performance rims...

Fog lights, air intakes below those, the bumper, the whole front face looks more refined and less boring now. Regardless, I only said it looks "even better", not much better, not slightly better. It just looks better. There was no weight to that statement.

Thanks for the in-depth review Thomas! I wish this was available in North America - I'd even take it with the silly orange wheels. Adds just the right amount of drama for me on a hot hatch/wagon without resorting to swollen arches and big wings.

golfracer89 not in my country though, halogen headlights are really bad looking, basically the GTI is never worth the money when the cupra is here, wheels are small and do not look good, dated headlights and taillights, normal suspension and adaptive suspension are extra and overall i think the cupra looks more sporty especially from the rear and side, but i must say the GTI has a better interior design and quality.

For me is the car that own all what I need in a car, it's very fast, funny to drive, technological, very practical and roomy, discrete.... and cheaper than any other similar option by far. Good job, Seat!.

Really good driving impressions, and views forward through windscreen. Very good editing and work. You asked which Cupra we preferred: the elegant and stylish ST, with DSG and 4Drive. Though interiors of sporty cars seem always dark all-one colour! Those big panoramic roofs help the interior very much however. I liked the sound. Many thanks Thomas for such an interesting Review.

I'm currently driving the Leon Cupra 280 and I really love that car. Especially when it comes to price-performance the Cupra was above everything that was interesting for me. However, I'm currently changing to the S3 Sedan facelift and have to admit that I'm a bit relieved that the new Cupra 300 doesn't have some things I love about the S3 (Matrix LED, Virtual Cockpit etc.). Otherwise I might have kicked me in the butt. :D Nevertheless for everyone who is interested in the Cupra 300: You can't do much wrong here. It'll be a really great car that's able to put a smile on your face over and over again. :) Ah yes, and nice review. ^^

Odd people taking photographs of the car when you turn on the rear view camera, a day out on the race track, police keeping an eye on you, very nice scenery, and of course a very in-depth review that cannot be found anywhere else. These are the reasons why I subscribed to this channel, because it is as if I am also driving the car rather than just looking like with the shorter reviews. Also I prefer the estate version because I see too many hatchback Leons & I think it looks well designed. The interior space looks good too which is important for people like me who like their cars to have some room. Cheers.

I own a Mk7 GTI, but this car looks pretty sweet. Definitely some VW parts bin, but I love the way the head unit is higher up on the console, that enormous sunroof, and the seats. Too bad Seat's arent available in the US.

Yes I have. Another excellent video. My model is a 2016. Wish I had that virtual dash and new taillights from the facelift. Not a huge fan of the capacitive volume buttons on the main screen though. Anyway, US wont get those facelift versions for awhile. VW always tends to screw us just a bit. Even though my GTI is an Autobahn version with lighting package/Performance Pack, US doesn't get the cool "euro" rear LED taillights for some reason, and buying them costs almost $1k and requires some wiring/OBDII coding.

I'm split between the GTI And Cupra - In Denmark where road taxes are high, I'm almost forced to go for the Cupra. But that might not be such a bad thing! In fact, I think I will be getting a lot of car for the money.

What if i find very weird in performance pack is that the wheels are not symmetric for left or right of the car. It has a turbine design and they are the same wheels for left and right side of the car. On the left side, you can see the upper part of the wheel, the front of the fins are painted. On the right side of the car, the front of the fins are polished. I think the price for performance pack is ridiculous, hence i havent ordered it. But i woukd have been upset if I realize that after delivery.

My hotel recommendation für Zürich is the Dolder Grand, it has the greatest Spa. Of course just when money doesnt play a role. Sometimes you can get some special rates though in luxury hotels if they arent booked well

Thanks Thomas, I just looked at that hotel this morning....kind of looks like our house! My 5 and 8 year old don't deserve that kind of luxury all year round! They need to experience how the "common people" live ;p And this is going to be July!! Not booked? hahahaha Just leaving the White and Orange Leon ST at the Zurich airport for July 1st!! We don't get this brand in Canada. You are the best!!! Thanks ;P

What an awesome spec - engine/transmission/brakes. I just can't get around the orange highlights - it may look cool and "special" now, but it will age very poorly. The red or white with black wheels is much more elegant

Interesting reviews. I am not familiar with Seat. Based on the quick google research, it appears to be Spain product. But the interior design of dashboard looks similar to Hyundai Sonata 2015. Given the engine specs, i feel it is VW platform like Skoda. Is it true? Nevertheless, this is not bad; too bad, this is not available in North America.

Think it would look better the other way around with the color combo ( orange bodywork/white accents on white wheels ). Otherwise it's a nice looking car in wagon and hatch form. Interior is alright. Got a very rorty sounding engine there.

Hi Thomas, great review! In the UK I can get a fully loaded Cupra 300 ST 4Drive for £30k (pano roof, heated leather etc), the equivalent spec Golf R facelift is £37k, I think the Cupra offers much better value, which car would you go for?

great looking car! note: full LED doesn't imply better light, as this one has no washers than means the output is under the 2000lm (EU law)... I'd rather get powerful xenon instead.

+sebxx - yes, interesting observation about the LED's and washers. It's very difficult to find out the illumination specification of LED headlights - manufacturers seldom quote the spec in their handbook or brochures; you can try going by whether the vehicle has lens cleaners or not - but some manufacturers fit lens cleaners to low powered LED headlights whether they're required by law or not!

+sebxx - yes, I agree. And LED's versus bi-xenon, the EU 2000lm law, lens cleaners, and trying to find out the specification of LED or bi-xenon headlights, is all good fun! And now I've just checked the UK Seat website configurator, and you can opt to fit headlight washers as an option to your Leon Cupra ST!

what's the build quality of the interior like Thomas? My wife has a 2014 Ibiza FR from new and there are quite a few creaks from the trim. This looks like great value but only of its well built. Even my 2017 Passat GTE has a number of interior noise issues that VW can't fix, so the car is going back & I'm looking for a replacement.

Loved your review you always do a great job.Does the 4 wheel drive version only come in dsg and do you think it's better than manual.I hope performance pack is available here in Ireland with this new version as it wasn't an option on the old cupra.Do you think the ateca will come in a cupra version?One final thing what make is your watch it looks great.

Thomas, what is your overall opinion about the car and particularly its driving comfort? Is it too noisy and too stiff to drive? Is it ok for a family car or it is too loud with lots of pops and bangs from the exhaust?

Bin mir nicht sicher ob du es erwähnt hattest aber ich habe mich auch für die "normalen" Sitze entschieden da die Schalensitze keine Lendenwirbelstütze haben was mich bei der Probefahrt direkt gestört hat.

A lot of race drivers say the 2wd handles better the diff is very good. Don’t forget the 2wd won against the golf R on track. So the 2wd is the faster car on track. 4wd gives more weight and drag.

Great review in detail, as always! Will be very interesting to have the 4drive a test drive when available in Sweden. I have the ST 280 DSG myself, and when driving a friends Golf R DSG Estate I get the feeling that the 115kg in weight difference is really noticeable. Also the AWD system in the R takes away a whole lot of fun and sportiness feeling. I suppose the new 4drive system is the exact same Haldex as the R uses? How many kg in weight does the haldex add on the ST, 80-90kg? Feedback, isn't there some kind of microphone peripheral that could be added to make the really high road surface sound go away? The tire sound dominates over the engine/exhaust :( Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I kind of disagree on Thomas his comments on understeer with the FWD when 'hammering'. The main party trick and also a great feeling is the opposite, when you go in the throttle on the FWD after the apex, the differential pulls the car into the curve, which is a great feeling, agile and fun and definitely more sporty. One note though, for the differential to be able to do it's work, it needs a little wheel slip, so it's best to switch off traction control as that will only interfere. And then sure, if you just hammer the throttle like a complete noob and break all traction, then it will of course understeer. But if I push the 4wd 100% in a curve it won't be great either as it will want to spin the inside wheels and you get brake fest instead...

onehorsepower I agree! The fwd together with the brilliant VAQ differential is fantastic through and out or curves. You can really feel the diff working and pulling the car without a lot of understeer unless you don't enter the curve to fast. Ex-mühle curve at Nordschleife is a really good curve to put the diff to its maximum!

I have a 2WD Cupra Hatchback and I tested the 4WD recently at the dealership. The 4WD is really great and has a lot of benefits. One drawback is the weight, you do feel it is slightly heavier. Another drawback is when accelerating in a curve, where I felt it understeers more because of the 4WD. When traction is transferred to the backwheels, the effect of the front differential is reduced, and so is the torque vectoring. That makes the driving a little boring and not as fun, since you don't experience the same slingshot effect as on the 2WD. However I could consider buying one, as it is a really great car to drive, just as the 2WD Cupra is. Just waiting for them to fix the ugly fog lamps in the front.

+Ivo Bosnjak - yes, that's interesting that the Cupra ST has a different DSG to the Golf R. Could it be due to the lack of availability of the new 7-speed DSG? Is all the production capacity being used in the new Golf and the new Tiguan?
