SAD fact: the original tutorial had a “nexus explanation.” Which explained everything MUCH BETTER than the current one does. DECA removed it along with the rest of their “improvements.”

I feel like to really start realm as a new player, you need someone to guide you through the start. For example the settings need to be changed to even be able to enjoy the game. And then gear and dungeon progression.

Interesting that he completely missed pets. Maybe the tutorial should reward a soulbound humanoid egg near the end. And then actually show you around the vault/pet yard.

Realm rework should be top of DECA’s priorities imo. I thought it would be sooner, but in the last patch notes it seems like they’re relatively disinterested in it. The realm needs life, perhaps small towns with NPC’s who tell you to fetch quest items from specific dungeons, perhaps challenges where you have to do dungeons within a time limit or with a certain item equipped. Maybe you could even buy consumables in these towns with either fame or a new in game currency you get for doing these quests. Also the ground is the ugliest thing in the world, Josh definitely got that right, aesthetically it just needs a massive overhaul. Change realm clearing to be maybe certain numbers of different dungeons need to be beaten by everyone, while keeping some of the more fun events etc, but also fixing bosses like ent ancient, liches and ghost kings to be more fun. More landmarks and access to lore throughout the realm would also kick ass. I also feel this would make the game feel much more accessible to new players by giving them more distinct goals to lead them through the game

i think the biggest mistake the game does is tryin to advertise itself as an mmorpg, normal mmo players most of the time wont enjoy this. but if they were to advertise itself within the roguelike genre more heavily it suddenly becomes one of the best roguelike games out there.

He's points may seem shallow in terms of gameplay but the criticism was on point, this is the freshest first player experience in a while, props to him for actually putting it into words, giving a reality check and even following up with the community.

I love JoshStrife. He criticized a lot of MMORPG that I played like Digimon masters, warframe, rotmg, etc. He is kinda being "captain obvious" in his videos. He says the issues we have already known for years. But the thing is... When a new player talks about those issues instead of me or you, it feels completely different. We can look from his screen to the game and see where he's going and what he is doing. And when we say "just go to realm bro." "just be level 20 bro" "why are you going to wine cellar with those items and level bro" we realize the fact that we don't even remember what being a new player is. That's why deca should look at this video. I always criticized deca because they're okay with making early game outdated. In this game there should be a "early game" "mid game" and "late game" and right now, Early game is being 20 level, mid game is being 8/8 (not since o3 release) late game is exaltation dungeons (not since o3 release) Long story short there is only end game. Just make early game fun. Make interesting items like snek eye ring and motivate us to enter early game dungeons instead of rushing o3 with 50 bfame. Even grinding potions are extremely boring now. You should do something deca. Because new players not finding this game interesting and end game is repeating itself.

you know, i remember my physical DREAD of teleporting to anyone in the realm because before there was TP invincibility... you'd tp to someone literally running into a god wall and you're character just insta dies

Played for over a year had not one clue how to leave the guild that died while I was in my month three of the game so I was in a dead guild for like 9 months before I figured out how to leave by asking someone in game. . .😅

I told two of my friends about it when unity client released and they did not get into it at all even with me holding their hand to help them understand the stuff one of them had played it before but the other had never played it that's the last time either of them played it. It's almost impossible to hook someone onto the game when it requires like a week or two to get into the game fully. I personally have not played the game in a few months and i don't know if I will for a while it's just not as fun as it used to be for me. I haven't played a whole lot of the endgame content as I stopped playing for when the lost halls and other endgame content first released and it made it hard to get into without discords which I don't want to use. I'm sure if I put the time in I could learn how to do a lost halls but why put the time into it to not get anything for my first few times and lose characters when I could just attempt other dungeons that have decent loot not as good but are so much easier to complete. I might only get a few pots in a lost halls but if I did 2 or 3 dungeons in the time it takes to do the lost halls then I could do more without going into it. I think in the transition from midgame to endgame you have to be willing to keep putting your character through the gauntlet of trying new dungeons for little reward until you learn how to do it and then you can keep going and try to get loot. One of the biggest things that took me out of the game was my archer ppe. I got the st armor from the library in my first one and then I tried almost 200 more and couldn't get the bow I had the rest of the set but just could not get it. I understand the drop rates are better in endgame dungeons because they are more dangerous and harder to complete but I think if you do 200 dungeons most of them solo you should be able to get everything that there is in that dungeon. I got so many seals from that as well. I felt the forge was meant for situations like those but it just didn't turn out how I would have liked it to. My personal opinion is that you should be able to trade 3 whites from the same tier for a white of that same tier and making it use all those random currencies is just so people will buy more of them. Like you should have been able to exchange a few cbows for a ctrap and that would be fair. Another problem is that no content is being introduced for new and midgame players which means that the most fun way to progress through the midgame is to make a ppe and then use that to gear up another one of you characters and then take that character to the endgame dungeons and try to survive when its 8/8. This comment has been all over the place but I really feel that this game is just made for endgame players now and not for new or midgame players.

I agree with toastrz, it's very similar with his trove video. I used to play the game a lot but his review is of so little gameplay that he never even got to the actual problems in the game because he found the core gameplay loop to be the problem. Trove is another game where there is no story so I do think Josh is a little biased which he does disclose at the end of the rotmg video.

everyone i know including myself absolutely hated this game on the first time playing, it wasn't until i came back on a whim that i found out i loved it. i think the main issue is dumping new players into dead servers and the nexus really just needs to be redesigned. only people invested in the game would ever really spend money on the cash shop so i don't even think new players should even get to see it, keep it in the bazaars. forest maze should have some jungle drum n bass blasting not a toddler playing a keyboard. 95% of new players realm sees is because their friends babysat through their entire experience and helped them out.

26:00 I don't think his level was completely the issue but the direction and because he doesn't know about those milestones, PPEs live by oryx 1,2,3 chains for xp and gear but because they have the knowledge to "exploit not explore". My man didn't even register the dungeons `Tomb difficulty" because he doesn't have much to compare it with or another warning, he would've blindly walked into osac and o3 just "to be part of the mob" and because it looked like the correct thing to do. The level-game like low, mid and end are fair issues with every game he reviews imo but that doesnt discount from the fair criticism for videos like the Trove and Warframe ones. Sure you can make 3 different video perspectives or take 10 times as much time to play them, like with messing with the settings, at that point you are already fighting to love it and as he mentioned, you quickly know if you love or hate the game.

New to playing myself.... my biggest complaint is that the community is fairly selfish in regards to lower rare dungeons. Take beachzone for example..... doesn't get poped all the time, you find the guy, get the dungeon and wait for folks to port in. Instead of waiting for all participants to take part, folks just rush in for the kill. Yes its fairly trivial, but you can see this in all sorts of low end dungeons. Snake pits can be the worst. I don't have much issue now that I've blue starred, but that said, it was very off putting.

I love how everyone in chat screams about how he didn't know multiple keybinds the game didn't tell him about.

I know that this is a year old, but when i first started realm I thought it was a fake game. With only the beach on my screen and the enemies being so simple i actually thought the game was a fake ad like most old youtube ads. I even put the game down until a friend of mine asked me to play. With the new Exalt client this is nearly impossible but the game needs to make its point clearer or atleast any game like it

I playd Rotmg back in Days, i just checked back in and god damn, feels like a different Game :D seems like dungeons got reworked and stuff, i just died in a ice cave from Lava? not sure, cuz it was the first time i was in there and didnt see my HP go down like crazy and im ded :D i think new players will never enjoy the Game, cuz there is so much shit out now. so many items... i stopped when Items got Untradable, Game feels smooth but to get back into it, i would probably need some1 who is teaching me dungeons and Boss mechanics :D The pet thingy already was kinda weird back in days cuz it felt like P2W. but they allways wanted money so nothing new. and now you can even exalt chars? and forge items? to much shit to learn for me, so i just rather dont play lol :D i think this game just needs a freaking rework :D back to the roots.

Josh got way too much hate for this video. He basically had to make a 2nd video apologizing for everything which is sickening how harsh everyone was on him. We have to take into account that this is one of the first, if not the very first bullet hell games he has ever played. Of course he is going to be bad. He is a new player. Think of the very first time you played this game. How long did it take for you to get to level 20? Well over 10 hours. The guy who posted that sickening response on Reddit needs to put himself in Josh's shoes and have a reality check after insulting Josh and getting everyone to hate on him. People do not realize how fucking hard it is for new players to advance in this game, especially if they are new to bullet hell games. It will literally take new players dozens of hours to get literally anywhere let alone know that the max level is 20. Therefore how would Josh know that he has a goal to get to level 20 and stop aimlessly letting himself die. Any new player would do the same.
