I am watching this while sitting next to my 40 year old wife of 17 years lose her battle with cancer. We are down to days after a 3 year battle. My advice, don't think because you're young the life you planned won't be be turned upside down in a blink of an eye.

There were times my boys would ask me to do things when they were young and I said no or was "too busy" with something else. They are all grown up and looking back, those “no’s” were the biggest regrets of my entire life. I would give ANYTHING to go back and take advantage of those moments that were lost forever. Take advantage of EVERY opportunity you can with your kids, Sebs!

I'm 72. Soon 73. I wish to God I hadn't worried about making more money instead of taking more time with my family. I tried to be strong and keep things to myself and push harder and harder. I spent 20 years in the Navy and was gone for months at a time throughout my children's young lives. Life goes so fast and I missed so much, be there and be involved. Even when you don't want to go here or there to watch and support you children because you think you have something more important to do, you don't, go, be there.

(67 yrs old here) Build family memories, you can lose all your belongings your home and I lost all my pictures of my brother and my family.They are all gone except one sister. However I still have my memories, like a box of jewels I take a memory out and hold it and look at it then relive the memory in my mind. I then reach for another memory, my brother and I on my Grandparents farm. We would take off after breakfast to the woods or/and river all day, mom would call us back with a triangle of metal she hit with a pipe. Great days, build memories with your kids, more valuable than anything other than Heavenly Father. Whew I am done now lol

My wonderful mom is 82 now. She's shared a few worries that she had back when we were kids. 1. She worried that we regreted how poor we were. I didn't even know we were poor. She made us awesome toys that made our yard the cool place for the neighborhood to be. I got my lifelong love of nature from all the hiking my family did. So no, we weren't poor. But also, when I was in sixth grade she gave us a choice for the summer- a vacation or a pass to the pool a block from our house. Made me feel grown up that she let us choose. I felt so lucky that we got to go to the pool that summer! So no, we weren't poor. My mom spent hundreds of hours reading books to us. Every day after lunch. My grandma used to yell at her a bit because Mom didn't do the dishes right after lunch. Instead she read to us. That was more important to her. I don't know many parents who still take time to read to kids for an hour every day when the kids are six and seven. Love of reading put me light years ahead of kids at school. I think that love of reading was why I did so well in school. So I applaud you putting your phone down. That is critical imo. You may be able to be on the phone while you are with your kids, but kids know. How will they feel worthy of love if you are multitasking when you are with them?? They know. But being present with your family isn't free. I hope that you can be okay with not achieving as much as fast as you want in your job. There are only so many hours in the day.

My daughter turn 21 this year and purchased the house we live in when she was born. Seems like that just happened. Enjoy each moment because before you know it they are all grown up and on their own, no matter how much you may sometimes not look forward to their practices, meetings or other school activities.........cherish them.... It does go by in a blink.

I hated becoming disabled before 27 however my relationship with my child flourished and at 21 now she still calls mom to help her, cuddle her, rub her head like I did when she was young, dry her tears and best of all laugh with her. My child is my best friend. So being physically disabled ruined my work life, but gave me a chance to see my daughter live her life and grow into a beautiful young woman. Where I was I watched other people’s adolescents grow and helped them and rarely saw my baby…. And yes the years have flown by. Great reaction Seb. I like your emotional reactions! The youngest of those three is about to graduate high school, the second born turned 20 yesterday and the oldest is married and will bring our first grandbaby into the world this summer. Advice: give your kids siblings. You’ll never regret having one more and it totally compounds the love. My husband says it’s a shame men have to hustle so hard right when their babies are growing up. This song is so true! My babies grew up so fast. I was a lucky mom as I got to stay home with them most of their years of growing up. Now my youngest is 26 and my oldest is 31. I loved having babies and small kids and miss it so much. Neither has had babies of their own yet but this woman is waiting.

I literally just returned from the hospital with my Dad in the ER. He was crushed between a trailer and a pickup. He started farming at age 6 and spent the rest of his life doing it. Now because of someone's momentary lack of judgement he will no longer be able to spend the rest of his days driving a tractor and striding through a field of wheat. He's alive and I thank God for sparing him but that accident will end up killing him. His entire life was spun around his family and his special relationship with God and the land. All in the blink of an eye.

As a mom I was always so excited for the next moment. I couldn’t wait to see my babies crawl and than walk and their first words but I forgot to enjoy the moment we were in. Now I look at them and they are running everywhere gaining so much independence and getting so big. I wish I would have really took each moment in more before looking forward to the next stage. I have several friends that I have known for over 50 years, but I remember when we were 18 years old like it was yesterday!

My mom is 80 and diagnosed with both cancer and Alzheimer's this month. Even at 80, it feels too soon. We are grateful for all the time we've had together that others weren't blessed with. But it is still too soon.

From a 59 year old woman. I was a single mom of three daughters for most of their lives. They were 3yrs, 5yrs, and 11 yrs old at which time their father and I divorced. Much like you, I had to work a lot in order to make sure that I provided for them. There wasn't a lot of time to be involved with school programs or their hobbies. Times have changed so much now, it takes both parents working these days just to make ends meet. I regret missing so much when they were young but as a parent I did what I had to do for their mental and physical well-being. I gave them a good life and put them through college and we all have very good relationships with one another to this day. My advice to you is... Even if you can't be as involved as you would like to be in their day to day lives, make time to see them as much as possible and take a "family vacation" every year and make those memories and strengthen those bonds. I wish you the best, you and your wife both seem like very good people with good hearts and good morals. You will do just fine.

8:31 I’m 55 and I lived in Florida since the 80’s. My parents live in NC and I didn’t get to see them much. Well, now Both are 87 and I moved closer to them about 6-7 yers ago. Was great to be around and help with stuff. 4 yrs ago I went blind, so now I can’t see them and can’t do things I missed. I “BLINKED” thinking that I had all the time in the world. As a 35 year old father with 2 children (4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son), I find that I’m grinding daily to be successful in my career and provide for a better life and future for my family. But, even I have to take a step back, think what matters most and force myself to go home 2 days a week earlier than usual to be with my family before bedtime. I’ve learned there’s emails that can be sent tomorrow, customers that can be called tomorrow, reports that can be worked tomorrow, etc and I can go home without getting everything done. I’m still successful and I’m actually operating at a higher level than I ever did because I’ve made this conscientious decision. You’re doing great, Sebs! Keep grinding, my brother.

At 68 I can tell you that this song is so, so true. I can also tell you in my younger years I would have rolled my eyes at the thought. In a heartbeat your options become impossibilities. You begin to become invisible, dismissed as someone who couldn’t possibly understand anything. But hey, I worked long and hard, still love to listen to loud rock and roll, had experiences no one would believe. Grab life and make every minute count. Talk to someone older than you. Let them share what they have learned and more importantly what they enjoyed. Don’t wait. Someday it will be you.

When I get together with my siblings (all of us are around 50), we talk about the best memories from our childhood. We spent a lot of time together as a family, just doing simple things. As my own kids were growing up, we'd talk in the car about their favorite memories. It's surprising that the things adults think are so important didn't really matter to them. Just be as present as you can! Let them know you love them. That's what matters.

I'm 55 years old and it seems like yesterday when I finally graduated high school. Kids are grown and have babies of their own. I married my perfect match 3 1/2 years ago only to get slapped in the face a year later finding out that she has ALS which is a terminal disease with an average of 3-5 years mortality after symptom onset. We stood at the alter and said our vows on October 20 2019 and today she can't move any part of her body, eats with a feeding tube and breathes with the assistance of a bi-pap machine 24-7. It doesn't even seem like I had time to blink. This life does go by faster than you think. Love deep, love strong and love daily. You never know when your time is up.

I do my best to go to every event, ball games, school plays, etc . . . Because, i testify those memories are what we take with us through the veil. What we learn from our kids and grandies. They are all we live for. Their success is ours. I remember when my babies were tiny, and thinking i didn't know how id make it, ( my husband was career military and overseas), but i taped the kids and sent him messages. This song used to make me cry when my kids were babies and now they are 19 and 20. My 20 year old moved 2 hours away and my 19 year is still at home. So this song hits harder now. Husband and I had to work opposite shifts because we couldn't afford daycare. I had to take the overnight shift because my husband made a bulk of the money at his job. So when they were little I didn't get a lot of sleep and I just couldn't wait untill they started school so I could get sleep during the day. Man, I wish I could go back to those sleepless days and enjoyed them more. Don't get me wrong, I love enjoying time with my adult kids, but I wished away their childhoods.😢

The best advice I heard while raising kids came from comedienne, Phyllis Diller. Even though most of her comic material was about being a slob, she was actually a neat freak, and would spend hours and hours cleaning the house perfectly. One day, her kids asked if they could go to the beach. She was about to say, "No, I need to clean the house" when it occurred to her that once the kids were grown and looking back at their childhood, they wouldn't remember the house looking perfect, but they would probably remember a fun day at the beach. The cleaning waited for another day.

As you get older, I am 58 with 5 grown children, and I realize that the things I thought were most important were not. What means the most to my kids is the time we spent with each of them. As a girl who was raised by a single father, the only thing that could make them not proud is your absence. Don’t miss the little things and always take the time to know them and understand what’s going on in their lives. I’m only 27, not 35-60 but I’ve lived a hard life and understand things a lot people my age couldn’t begin to. I’m also a mother of four, and right now, my life is all about them. Everyone says “work harder when they’re young so you can spend more time with them when they’re older” but in reality, if you’re not present when they’re young, you’re not as needed/wanted when your kids are older. They kind of learn how to live without you because you’re always gone. My dad worked his behind off to provide for me and my brothers which meant he wasn’t around much but I’m still so proud of the sacrifices he made for us and the work that he put in to give us everything we needed and wanted. He never remarried or dated, he spent all his time and effort into my brothers and me.

Here comes 1 of 2 examples of my life. Age 57. (2nd will be in another comment.) 1st. My Daddy worked 3 jobs when I was very small, 2 when I was towards graduating high school. My Dad loved me so much and showed it every second of every day that he wasn't at work. I remember him coming home from the firestation after a 21 hour shift, and getting right down on his stomach on the floor and let me crawl all over him. Later years, I learned how to restore apartments with him. I will never forget every moment with him. I was on the radio for 4 years. He taped every single show, and we'd be at a gathering, country music playing then....suddenly... I'd here my voice. It was one of my shows. When my musician boyfriend was on the road (ik they never know what day it is), Valentines Day came. Daddy sent me a basket of roses to my work. (My boyfriend also came through with a delivery) but Dad didn't want me to be the only girl there who didn't get some. I lost him 3/30/2019. My heart will never be the same, but I am so blessed he was my Daddy

I’m a teacher and all my friends wanted me to take extra classes to increase my pay when I was just getting started. Classes met on Saturdays, but my young kids were into sports, singing & dancing, so I said no. My friends thought I was giving up a future in regard to money, and couldn’t see that I wasn’t willing to sacrifice the present. No amount of money will replace being there for their first soccer goal, first performance, and all those practices. Being there for them was and still is the most important thing in my life…even if they’re older and don’t need me like they used to. I’m finally taking some of those classes and having to pay for what was once free, and will no doubt be better off financially, but would do it all over again without a single regret if the choice was between money and time with my family. Money can buy a lot of superficial things, but it can’t buy or replace a moment lost…that’s fulfilled with regret!

Tears flowing of course but I lost my son at 20 y/o and I regret every day the one evening, when he was about 6 that he asked me to read a book to him and I said sweetie can we do it later, I'm so tired. Me a single mom of three and working so much all the time including a lot of weekends, I don't remember if I ever got back to reading it to him and not sure if he ever asked me to read to him again. You can never get those times back. He's been gone for almost 13 years now and I still think of him every single day and often find myself in tears without even thinking of it as anything unusual. It's just my life now.

Being the only daughter of three kids, I was definitely Daddy's little girl. I spent as much time as I could with him but he died fifteen years ago. After his death I heard this song but it took me several years before I could listen to it again...I racked my brain thinking of times that I blinked...luckily there weren't many but it still bothers me. I'm 59 now and terminally ill...not married and no kids. But I try to find something every single day that becomes a happy memory....usually it's making people laugh because if they are, so am I. I’m a 37 y/o single mum of a 15 y/o boy. My biggest regret is when he was a toddler I was told he needed to “socialise” & so I worked to put him in a good early learning center (daycare on steroids). Looking back, yes he needed socialising but looking back now I would have kept him out & just taken him to parks or something. I feel like I missed a lot of time. I never missed a milestone, even now, but it’s still something I would change if given the chance. Now, as a daughter whose father has passed but was also gone a lot I’d say read. At night, when you’re home, be the parent to put the girls to bed & let them pick out a book & if they want a story or two more? Who will it hurt? That’s something that I’ll always hold dear to my heart is my dad reading to and with me as I got older. Even when he was tired or had lost his reading glasses and had to squint to read the words, it’s something I miss to this day.

My husband was a workaholic, until at the age of 44 he had a massive heart attack that came way to close to killing him and heart transplant, our daughter was a teenager at the time. He came out of that with a new perspective. We've had 9 bonus years and none of us take that for granted because it could be over so fast. He became very aware of just how much can happen in that blink. Everyday above ground is a good day.

The struggle is real and you're just so busy just holding responsibilities down that taking that time to connect is so important. I promise it speeds up , then it's just passed and it's gone. make those memories, they are priceless

37 year old male here...my advice would be to every now and then just take a step back and look at what you have. All too often these days we get caught up in the things we DON'T have. The most important things in your life are friends and family. Take care of your body because it is the only one you have. Sometimes I get caught up in my own bullshit and get frustrated with people around me but then I'll hear a song and I will instantly be so appreciative that I found my wife, that I have a great family and great friends. All you need in this life is to love and be loved. Be a good person, help when you can, be thankful and don't be afraid to be vulnerable. It's in those moments that you can truly appreciate what you have.

My oldest turns 18 in August , I also have a 14yr old son and a 13yr old daughter . I sit and think sometimes about how I wish I could go back 5 or 6 years and relieve it. I miss how they used to follow me everywhere, pick me flowers etc. I cry sometimes thinking about how in the next 5 years my house will be so quiet.

Some of the best conversations with your kids are in the car. Create memories. My son has Friday pizza and movie night with his family, just like we did. My kids talk about going fishing with Dad. They didn't fish, they played, but they remember dad taking them fishing.

For as absentee as dad was, I remember that when I was young (8 through teens), we had a ritual that i went with him to pick up a movie from the local rental place and I got to pick out the snack for movie night. I would tell young people/young couples to not get so caught up in the daily grind (what car we drive, what our house looks like, how many digits in our salaries, etc...) and live in each and every moment. Because when you're living the last days/years of your life with your memories THAT/THOSE things will be what matters. That is the substance of our lives, not the monetary things. It's about the heart things and the heart-strings. And THAT is what your kids will recall and emulate as well. I hope and I pray that my legacy will be the loving moments we shared with our kids and all the beneficial life lessons we showed them/taught them through our actions. LIVE IN THE MOMENT and you'll have few regrets. I promise.

I’m 62 years old and am sitting here alone wondering what to do with the rest of my life. I’ve had two husbands that I was deeply in love with that has passed away. I'm 34 and my kid is about to be driving. Took her out today in a neighborhood and she killed it! So proud of her. I just can't believe I changed this kids diapers. I remember being able to hold her in one arm and here she is driving my car. Time goes so damn fast.

Totally true, I’m 67, children 44:42 . 6 grandchildren. My children remember going camping, traveling, cooking, playing in the yard. Having steadfast rules. That they helped set when they became teens. I was Navy man. Made effort to do these things because I missed so many in between. Wife is wonderful. 47 years together. Only plan on another 55 or so. Lol. We keep telling each other it’s time to renew the contract at 3 year intervals. That how long people gave us to be together……😂 Plan on dying together. It makes it easier.

My mom pasted before any of my kids were born, but she total me to enjoy every minute with my kids. I never forgot that, any passed it on to others. Now I have 4 grandkids and tell them to slow down because they’re all growing so fast. I enjoy every minute with each of them. I want them to have memories of what I did with them after I’m gone ❤️

Right now my wife, 11 year old daughter, 9 year old son, and (almost) 3 year old daughter are out on the lake with my mom and step dad taking part in a Fourth of July boat parade. I'm in here watching you watching "Don't Blink" because I've been a pretty massive rut for (honestly) a few years now that I just can't dig myself out of. I'm not going to regret being in here instead of out there in 10 years, I regretted it before I even said I wasn't going to go out on the boat.

I was a working Mom until they were 14 and 11... A divorce, remarriage, changing jobs and classes, kids in daycare at months old, then before and after school care too- I missed so very much, and the time we did spend was struggling over homework in the car from daycare, exhausted dinner time and distracted weekends trying to both decompress and get all the tasks for the week done. I wish I had taken time- screw the dishes and laundry and news of the day, just play woth them or sit quietly with them as they slept! I made some good memories together with both for the remaining 5 to 8 years they were home still, but I can never give them the time I was not truly present even when there when they were little. To my amazement though, they remember being loved and talked with and taught and understood, my being a role model as a decent human and example of being a good Mom! I have no idea how I managed to impart that, but I am grateful they could remember childhood as my being there in the ways that counted with unconditional love and support. You are doing it right- set down the phone away from yourself, and just snuggle your littles. Be there fully, and see them completely in the time you have as they grow and change so fast it is dizzying... It is one thing I treasure in my son in law: he is obsessed with spending time focused on their 3 kids every day, even if it is just facetiming when on duty, and has been with them every free day since day one. And he has somehow kept doing so while building a first responder resume and career- a seemingly impossible task, but he pulls it off.

You’re 6 years old and you take a nap, wake up and you’re 25 could not be more true. I am 25 and it is surreal, the years have just flown by before I even realized it and I know they will continue to get faster and faster and that pill is just so hard to swallow. Trying to be grateful for everyday and every year. The concept and phenomenon around aging is something I think I will never come to terms with but alas here we are. Time stands for no man nor women. To get a perspective of life, we have 18 summers with our children, make lots of great memories with lots of family pictures and video’s. Life goes faster than you think, make it count & don’t blink!

I have no horse in this race with age turn 22 in 2 weeks, but I end 5 years in the marine corpse in less then 9 months and this has hit me as the don’t blink moment I remember like yesterday being a fresh boot and making life long friendships that I now haft to come to the realization that I might never see these guys again. It’s almost unreal how fast these 5 years went now I watch as slowly my boys get out and spread them selves all over the US😢

this statement is so true. i miss when my kids were little. my son is 17 and going to be a senior in high school. my Daughter is almost 12. Just make sure you spend as much time with your kids and the people around you cause you never know when the last time you will get to see them.

It does go by so fast. I miss the times when they were small. Now i have grandchildren & make sure i spend that time with them. Just love them. Let them know how much they mean to you.
