Unfortunately back in 2013, Randy Travis suffered a stroke and hasn't recovered. He can no longer sing or play guitar, although there are instances where he sings a few words, one instance being Josh Turner's cover of Travis' "Forever and Ever Amen"

I love it too that the preacher gave the hooker his bible before he died, then she read it and gave it to a child she raised who in turn became a preacher. If I could describe country music with one word, it would be - relatable. Great reaction.

The part of the song that always gets me is in the first verse when they tell us why everyone was on the bus. 1 was on vacation, 1 was seeking hire education and 2 were searching for lost souls. By the end of the song we learn that the preacher found a lost soul and in his last moments did what he could to help her. The hooker was lost and through the preacher found her self and the will to go onto a better life.

Well said, John. And, I agree.......to a point. The hooker didn't find herself, she found salvation through Jesus, and HE gave her the will to go onto a better life, for herself and for her baby, to whom she read the Bible every night. That's just how I interpreted it.

@@johngaltline9933 I've always wondered that as well. Actually, it's about his Great Grandfather. There is the line, "and my mama's daddy was his only son." So his parents' daddy (grandfather) was the only son of the man he's singing about, therefore, it's his Great Grandpa that he's singing about.

@@Woody615 I Kew it was his great grandfather, but it's still his grandfather hehehe. And I think his mammas daddy was his oldest son not only son. It still makes me think of my grandpa, my mom's dad. He wasn't a cowboy nor my great grandpa. But it still makes me cry thinking of him though.

I love these reactions. I recommend Kenny Rogers Coward of the County or The Gambler both great stories. Also Carrie Underwood This is Just A Dream or Temporary Home for beautiful stories and How Great Thou Art with Vince Gill to see the talent & for something uplifting & fun, The Champion featuring Ludacris. When it comes to that last song, the video is necessary to really appreciate what the song is about.

He was able to sing I Told You So with Carrie Underwood and he did sing the last Amen from 'A Love Without End Amen " on the CMA's years ago. Three wooden crosses is AMAZING!

Not sure why I stopped on this but let me tell you a story about this song. It was my sister's favorite song and I played it and still play it on a guitar. My sister is no longer here with us she has gone home to be with the Lord now but in her last years I would take a guitar to a nursing home and just start the intro of three wooden crosses and she knew what I was going to play before I even sang a word. I am not tooting my own horn because God gave me the talent to perform and put a lot of good people around me I am just a tool that God uses. As for the reactions of you both the girl was just sitting there listening and the guy was reacting which I though was cool. Country music tells stories like this but the new country they have out now is just junk I won't even listen to or play the new stuff Randy Travis is what they would call traditional country music take care guys

Such a beautiful song. I'll never understand how anyone could say they don't like country music. It is such a huge genre that has something for everyone. I think that some just pass early judgement without giving much of it a listen. As someone who started writing poetry and songs at the age of 5, country music always appealed to me because of the incredible lyrics. To me, the music is secondary to the story of the song. The story in this one has stuck with me through the years.

Country music is storytelling. So many of the songs, like this one just tell stories, beautiful, heart warming and heart wrenching. Some examples are: God’s will, by Martina McBride, love me by Collin Raye, stay by Sugarland, believe by Brooks & Dunn, unanswered, prayers by Garth Brooks, and the list goes on. I hope you continue to react to country songs, and listen to the story in the messages they bring.

Adding to your list: > George Jones - "He Stopped Loving Her Today" > Brooks and Dunn - "Red Dirt Road" > Brooks and Dunn - "Cowboy Rides Away" (cover song. Original artist= George Strait). Maybe NOT a storytelling song, but a really nice one. > Alan Jackson - "Drive" > Tim McGraw - "Don't Take The Girl" > Rascal Flats - "Front Porch Looking In" > Paul Overstreet - "Heroes" (GREAT SONG !!!) > Paul Overstreet - "Seein' My Father In Me" > Paul Overstreet - "Daddy's Come Around" > Faith Hill - "A Baby Changes Everything" (Live. Christmas concert. She's wearing a gold dress) There are literally TONS of Country songs that tell stories that just make you feel good!

I cant even make it through the first stanza knowing how it goes without a tear. Ive broken bones several time at work (manual/skilled labor) but never had to take time off. Hand, foot, ext. Not enough pain for a tear. This song... I get to the word bus and it hits hard.
