The stress of getting through small London streets, the relief of getting onto a open 4 lane one. I mean, that bit with the engine driving through that 1 lane road then having to stop by the bus as people run out into the street, that must've been stressful.

I wish people would stop suggesting Britain gets "Q" sirens. They work great in America, but that's because they suit the environment, driving styles, and the vehicles they're on. We've used (and still do) 2 tone air-horns sirens because they fit in with our environments, vehicles and driving style. Doesn't New York have an embargo on the use of Q sirens because they're just too loud for the general population? The idea of a siren is to get people out the way, not wake up the city.

@@BlackieFoxxless and you know who else uses the Q on vehicle's that aren't ment for it? The Philippines! They have these Japanese style trucks, but they go "all out" (excessive decorating, wrapping, lighting and Sirens) on their trucks.
@0ne-6right40 Жыл бұрын
@@shaneharrisnj3484 Yeah Q sirens along with the stock Japanese mech siren. But one thing I don’t understand is how after it was suggested in NYC that Hilo sirens be used more often, they are still allowing mech sirens again. Seems a little counterintuitive to me. Plus the Two tone/ Hilo sirens are proven to be more effective than electric wailers And mech sirens.

Classic case of not adjusting the siren tone to how many vehicles are driving in convoy, I believe it's the front passenger of the ALP who says to the driver change the tone after a taxi and pedestrian cross the it's path, but fair play it was really new technology :-)

I am constantly appalled by the uncaring behaviour of London drivers especially the London cabbies. Compare their driving and the way in which USA drivers give way to fire appliances. It should be mandatory in this country for all drivers to pull into the nearside and stop when any emergency vehicle either approaches or intends to overtake..

Is it uncommon in the UK that all trucks of one station are en route together? in the country where I live the customary battalion condsists of three trucks and when a fire gets called in it's nearly always the entire battalion that gets dispatched. Of course not if there is only a car or a pile of waste on fire.
@john_smith1471 Жыл бұрын
Don’t understand the question, what is a battalion? remember these scenes are over 30 years ago, 1992, there have been big cut backs with further fire station closures and appliances withdrawn since, the other fire station that attended and arrived first no longer exists.

@garfstiglz39814 жыл бұрын
Obviously 1992 but London hasn’t changed. Traffic is still just as bad if not worse. People could be burning to death in such instances, this is why I feel London needs some of its roads to be dedicated emergency and fire routes. If it means car drivers, taxis’s and buses etc can’t use them so be it, people’s lives are worth more.

It would be faster if fire crews went by foot and mailed equipment to the required address. Sad but true, not it all cases people in cars are evil blockers of emergency services, I was a witness to few times (by chance, right) that some woman driver just got scared by all the noise and dramatic situation of such vehicles passing by. In driving schools they teach you that you should allow them to pass by. In real life - you have to be really skilled to make some room for you and them.
