That was still rusty in my opinion. He mellowed down his intensive training to replace his practices for being a trainer, not the boxer. Imagine if he had trained for that sparring match as he would fight in the ring, not as the trainer. Then those moves would be immaculate, focused, poised, evasive like the goddamn chupacabra, and popping in and out punches you haven't seen or expect like fighting an average londoneer with a shank in the back alley. Dodging bullets like they're in slowmo, and hits hard like your abusive step-dad from your regular Tuesday night.

@@andresalise8000 Miyata described his training regime as a retired boxer as something more intense than what many active boxers do. But i agree that with a regime that helps him to get used to the ring again he would be an even deadlier beast. I read somewhere that Ippo's style is heavilly inspired in Mike Tyson's, so maybe Ippo's way of fighting will be closer to Tyson in his prime.

I think the most useful part of ippos retirement is that as a boxer he is finally thinking for himself and trying out techniques he never thought of before, he's such a straight forward fighter he Never thought outside the box now he can blossom into a fighter of his own making

I fucking love the way Morikawa illustrates and panels things, it makes reading the fights so easy and seamless. I literally don't need to see this animated cuz it's drawn so well. You can really picture every movement.

i mean... when you ask someone who beat you in a boxing match a couple years prior to help you out in a sparring match now that youre a world champ... and they basicly win with the exact same combo that they beat you with the first time(gazelle punch into a corner into dempsey roll) you fought each-other... you gotta start asking questions XD

When Ippo has the Asura eyes that means he is a "monster" at that particular moment, it means he's resolved to put everything on the table regardless of Kumi, his mother or any other kind of hangups. Here it was just using everything in his power to help Vorg out and he broke the guys ribs. I can't imagine Ippo back in the ring with those eyes, he'll kill his opponent and take 0 damage in the process thanks to his upgraded skills, mental and physical.

Well well well...Volg is the world champion of a higher weight class and still ippo was able to push him into the corner, see all of his moves and even started parrying his attacks. Ippo retired almost 2 years ago bc of being punch drunk and still.....aaaah just think about it...being volg as an active boxer with his talent, strength, bloodlust and his sharp instincts being pushed by a retired boxer of a lower weight class is just impossible....what kind of monster has ippo become ?! When ippo caught volgs white fang I thought "Did he just shit on volgs finisher?!". Normally when your trainer hold the mitts you hit where you´re told to but Ippo did the opposite by stopping punches that suppose to hit him without any warning...Volgs lightspeed combination on top of it oO If RIcardo tries his deadly jabs again his face needs a doctor when Ippo starts landing blow by blow by countering it. Can´t wait for his comeback!!!! He´ll destroy Ricardo this time.....and look at Ippo´s eyes. He changed. He got that inhuman eyes like all of the other great world rankers now. Ippo will come back before this year ends!!!!

idk about "destroy" Ricardo since we haven't seen ALL of his moves but Ippo definitely on the come up! I do think he rolls a few people like Imai on the way to Ricardo though

@@mysonburch6140 I say Ricardo wins by the judges scorecard but I also think like in the final seconds ippo would get a knockdown in the final seconds of the fight that Ricardo would barely get up from or ippo would be just about to finish Ricardo as the bell rings letting Ricardo know that if the fight went on Ricardo would lose so with finding the guy who brought out all his strength Ricardo retires and then we see ippo win the vacant title

What I am waiting for is the further evolution of Ippo's arsenal in fighting. Unlike before when he just followed Kamoawa's instruction and do it like a bull as he was told to now I wanna see how he improvises with tact within himself a tactical infighter that can punch all the way its opponents to bits. And I wanna see Ippo stepping that line where Takamura says that u can only step onto this borderline if u have the resolve to put everything and abandon everything. Also, Kumi says Ippo is like a sun He will come back even stronger and hotter(Fire/Fuel to fight in the ring.).

Coming back to rewatch this fight, I noticed something new. It's not just Ippo who's improved - Volg has levelled up the White Fang! In the Mike Elliott fight, we saw Mike counter the White Fang whenever it was unleashed, because he knew the pattern. In order to set it up properly, Volg had to first commit to dozens of body blows, then go up high with the Tsubame Gaeshi, and finally nail him with the overhand right. Anyone watching that fight would learn something important: if that Tsubame Gaeshi comes out, the White Fang will most likely follow. In this fight, Volg sets up the White Fang in an entirely different way. With a flurry of jabs, he draws Ippo's guard high around his head. This makes Ippo predict a body blow, and as he falls for the bait, Volg loops the White Fang right around the guard, with no prior uppercuts to serve as warning. Not only is this a genius move, he now has two angles of attack from which he can set up the White Fang: either from below, from close range, or from above, with jabs. Now the White Fang can be thrown from an infight, from outboxing, and from middle range with no setup, Volg's opponents have to live in constant fear of the Fang no matter where they are. His technique has gone from advanced to full-on mind games with a single new move!

Just read the latest chapter and that blow to the ribs ippo landed really hurt volg. we'll see how his title match unfolds but i cant see him losing since we still havent heard the name of his opponent

@@AMBATUKAM7 But Ippo was punch drunk. He also thought that the gap between him and the world champ was so big that he thought that he had no match for him. Retiring was the best option so that if he does come back (which he will), he would have several more techniques in his arsenal, not to mention his upgraded speed, precision, counters, and durability which makes him an even more ferocious opponent that can make Ricardo feel fear. Although, I'm not sure where he is yet in the rankings. But if he beat Volg (which is atleast top 5 in the series right now), I could definitely see him putting up a great fight against Ricardo.

I swear, he really is doing the same shit Date did, retiring for a while then coming back in their late 20s, just that compared to Date who worked as a salaryman in those retired years, Ippo begun his learning trip and all as assisting as a second and training others, dude is a fucking beast now
