Johnson tan - no, they are a lot closer genetically. Dogs evolved much further from their ancestors than cats did. Cats still have the same instincts. Up until recently they were even considered subspecies of the same species, Felis Silvestris (Felis Silvestris Catus for domestic, Felis Silvestris Lybica for North African/Near Eastern wildcat, Felis Silvestris Cafra for South African wildcat), not even different species, although they seem to have changed the classification for some reason and now only use Felis Catus for domestic, Felis Lybica for African wildcat and Felis Silvestris for European/Scottish/Caucasian wildcats. Also, wolves and dogs will not breed in nature the way wildcats mate with domestics. Dogs' instincts and behavior is very different too. Cats still keep their wild instincts.

HeavySky587 No, he’s got a point. This cat isnt from the same species as the domestic cat is a felis catus while this cat is a felis silvestris. The domestic cat and this wild cat split off from the main felis line to form their own seperate species a thousand years ago hence why they have slight genetic differences. The reason they all behave and look the same is that both cat species hasnt really changed much since they first became their own species. Its the same logic why some gallapago finches look identical to each other because they only diverged genetically a few hundred years ago.

You don’t think that humans made hairless cats and the ones with the squished faces or the Siamese? They all share genetics that are found in the African wild cat which means humans bred them to be that way or at least when they came out that way they made sure to keep breeding those same animals to ensure the looks remained. They’d been domesticated for at least 9500 years but there is evidence it could be even further back. I’m not sure on dogs as I haven’t researched it. But knowing KZfaq I may end up watching a video about it sooner or later. Maybe even tonight.

I used to have this cat. She was a stray found pregnant in a gas station parking lot. For a long time I thought she was just a cat until I read an article about the African wildcat in a Ranger Rick magazine. She was very long with huge eyes and huge ears, an excellent Hunter and her markings were 100% identical to the African wildcat. She was very smart and independent. I had a very special bond with her that I don't think I will ever have with another pet again. It was an amazing Stroke of Luck and fate that she ended up with me. She was my soulmate. Rip Dilly

Our zoo had one of these and in the smallest cage i felt so bad. She just walked with people as they walked by rubbing the fence...they had no boundrys around the fence so i got close just to see how she would react and she was just rubbing like a house cat so stuck my hand flat up to the fence and she just wanted love. Didn't act like a wild cat. After that i was to sad to stay and have refused to step foot in a zoo. That small cage was inhumane just because its a small cat doesnt mean it should be all alone in a small cage. Broke my heart. She acted like a lovable house cat...probably not normal at all which means she needed change. Idk if she's still there i haven't been in 7 years.

yes they look exactly like a house-cat, but behaving as a wild animal, so no way it will let you hold it as the house kitty will do, no lap cat at all, acts more like a dog, follow you everywhere even to shower, not tolerating any neighboring dogs and cats - may attack despite the size if you are near - protecting, will bite anyone it doesn't know who try to touch it, and even fixed female will spray its territory all the time, and the territory can be whole neighborhood, if limited to inside the hose then will spray around the house, may attack annoying children, or someone looking into the cat's eyes - changeling.

The Egyptians of 3000 B.C. were the first recorded peoples to domesticate the Serval Cat and the Savanah Cat. Then cross breeding with the African Wild Cat. Which is why cats in general maintain their wild instincts and become feral in a moments notice.
@davidpowell3347
@davidpowell3347 Жыл бұрын
Seems that the association of the African Wild Cat as being inside human habitations or even carried along in boats (undoubtedly being held or cuddled) has been pushed back several thousand years before the Egyptians are known to have had cats somewhat like today's "Abyssinian" and probably became hybridized with Abyssinian some of these I think stay quite aloof or show dislike of humans but others are quite affectionate maybe wild type cats can be just as affectionate as inbred modern domestic cats but higher activity needs and "not indoor" cats?

Saw a leopard kill a wild cat last night at Djuma in the Sabi Sands. It was horrible to see. Happened on the Djuma Dam Cam. We don't often see them on the live wildlife cameras except occasionally at night for a quick drink. It was wonderful to see this video of one hunting in daylight! Thank you.

I will never know how u can domesticate an animal and then all of a sudden they start giving birth to different coat variations. This cat only comes in the one tan brown coat but domestic cats come in all colors. How is that

A wildcat must hide with its fur, for a domestic indoor cat hiding is not important.
@tadeuszmarin5704

Probably the recessive genes of these wildcats which produce different colors are still on their genome, but a white or black wildcat would have a tougher time hiding, hence dying more easily and not passing their genes to any offspring. This stopped happening after cats became domestic, and these genes, which were always there, could finally thrive. Add to this artificial human selection (1 of every 1000 cats is born with this specific color, so we cross-breed them). It's basically the same than if we wanted to make an 'albino' ,or 'short-sighted,' or 'midget' human race on purpose, which are not very useful mutations in nature.
