Thanks for publishing these findings, the hidden mechanics for Headliners is definitely one of the more frustrating RNGs to grapple with and knowing some of the constraints will help folks manage expectations.

This is damn good info. So you just need to buy the headliner units with similar trait to save rolls for the BiS headliner. 🤯

To me it seems that buying or selling a headliner resets all of the cooldowns that should be in place. Which is why you're able to see units or traits that you normally wouldn't be able to after selling. But obviously those shops are still subject to RNG, which is why you couldn't consistently find those units and traits showing up within the timer (i.e. there were still many rolls that seemed normal). So I believe if you're looking for an executioner headliner samira, for example, it's in your best interest to buy and resell a country samira, because that would reset your samira timer. It also resets your country timer however, so there's a chance of getting unlucky and seeing a country samira again. I'd have to sit down and do the math, but I'm pretty sure it's better odds than rolling 16 gold before you can see a single samira again.

I think the rule only applies if you “skip” the unit. It might be similar to how it works in the early sets where you cannot get the same unit you skipped in the previous shop. So if you skip that headliner trait or headliner champion, the shop is saying “i cannot show that trait or champion anymore cause the player doesn’t want it”

The only thing i can really think of is headliner odds are intrisically linked with roll odds. So if you buy a headliner and sell it before anyone in the game rolls and updates the pool so it bugs out. Thats the only reason why id think speed would matter sometimes and when people are dead

The rules are probably here to help you get a diverse choice of headliner, to avoid unlucky edge cases. This mean it is indeed probably buying the headliner that reset the rules. This could be useful if you really want to force a specific headliner with a specific trait, if you get the trait you want from another unit (or the correct unit with the wrong trait), selling it should increase your odds.

As a thought experiment, you can also break the no unit repeating in hliner shop. If everyone takes more than half of 5 costs except for one, your 5 cost hliner shop WILL repeat. The game WILL NOT you lock to a 4 cost just because of the rule - the rarity of a shop roll supercedes it. If that were the case the expected distribution of 5 cost hliner would be lower than the displayed 30% (~23%). This means even the "consistent" rule can be broken. Clearly, the hierarchy is: 1. Shop rarity 2. A unit cannot repeat consecutively 3. A trait cannot repeat consecutively on the same unit regardless of the rolls between them 4. Unit or Trait "cycles" (4) is debatable considering that players are interacting with the pool and using up copies in their BOARD and SHOP but with sufficient copies it might be probably what you data mined - but it's definitely at a lower priority. So buying and selling makes no difference because that unit as hliner cannot appear in your next shop, it does help you however to get that unit as a non-hliner. It does not "repeat" the "cycle". Logically speaking there's not even a reason to add that rule.

So if I wanna force an hearth steal comp even if I get an sentinel ksante i should buy and sell it so I can get it with less rolles right?

Should also mention that if half of the units in a pool are out a headliner cannot appear for anyone. I see people rolling down all the time specifically looking for champs that literally cannot appear

Do you actually have less probability to find a specific headliner if there are less champs in the pool? Example 50% of the akali are bought, instead nobody bought karthus, do I have more chances to find karthus headliner?

I think the akali situation is that : she can't have a KDA or True Damage headliner because it will change depending on your board. That's why you get executioner akali twice

I really wish they just told us exactly what happens if you buy and sell the headliners. If I want to be able to see the same trait or headliner again I should just be able t waste the 1 gold by buying and selling that unit, instead of weirdly having to buy and sell multiple headliners in a row to get better odds.

If you have 6 same units (two same 2* units) can this unit headliner appear? Some streamers says that impossible. Today I had 6 Kayles (other 7 players doesn't have any of them ) and then rolldown 60+ gold at lvl 6. And I didn't saw any headliner Kayle, only normal ones. After it I gave up make Kayle 3* without headliner and move on

Yeeee the no higher value need to change xD Saw Yone at stage 3-1 or something with Heartsteel. Rolled around 140 times to find him again as headliner at lvl 7 xD (from stage 3-5 to 6-1) And coulden't find a single Yone headliner (no one was playing him exept me) Was 2 dudes who had him 1 stard on board for Heartsteel and that was it... Like this could mean its impossible for u to get the champ u need with the amount of gold u have anyways so ur rolling would be pointless.
