Peacemaker is up there as one of the greatest superhero tv shows.

Scope was also an issue. Peacemaker dealt with a world level threat in a small way that didn’t rock the boat for other movies. Secret Invasion was also a world level threat that literally changed how the world acted, then was completely forgotten about in the very next Marvel movie, one that starred Fury. Such a failure.

You can really tell the MCU had no showrunners because Agents of Shield literally did an amazing job with undercover Hydra agents and LMDs. They have too much money to be this stingy on creative direction on their TV shows.

Peacemaker's prison fight scene alone was better than anything Secret Invasion even thought to do.

In a way i can see how James might tackle Superman, considering his predilection for the "band of misfits" theme. He described Superman: Legacy as a world where hope has been replaced by cynicism, where Kal-El therefore stands out for being hopeful and optimistic. In that lens i can see how James would write a "misfit" Superman.

Because James Gunn knows how to balance, seriousness and comedy while still telling a solid consistent story with surprises, weird what the fuck moments, and even after a great finale, he gives us one final hilarious sendoff. I am so excited for the DC reboot.

Peacemaker is so damn perfect as a tv show it perfectly introduced every character even the villain's, humanized them and still delivered emotional and comedic takes perfectly that shit really is a perfect show

This just made me wanna watch Peacemaker for the 6th+ time. God I loved this show. I can't wait for Season 2.

One had fun characters with great arcs, overcoming conflict and doing cool stuff. The other had sam jackson slowly shuffle about.

This. All of this! I took some heat when I told friends they should be watching 'Preacemaker'. The character as seen in 'The Suicide Squad' hadn't charmed them. Quite the opposite. And they'd heard about the character's initial takes that echoed his upbringing among a white supremist father and his movement. Many of these same fans later felt very much betrayed by 'Secret Invasion', an MCU project they were excited about because of its comic book basis and Samuel Jackson's iconic Nick Fury portrayals. I'd never thought of the similarity in storylines between 'Peacemaker' & 'Secret Invasion', nor the extreme differences in execution. But your examination and Gunn's handling of the show is exactly why the new DCU has me optimistic.

I had high hopes for Secret Invasion. Then Maria got fridged in the first episode, and I knew it was a sign of bad things to come.

Loved Peacemaker. As for Secret Invasion, as I think I commented before it seems to me that the writers started the show leaning into the friendship theme, which I found compelling. it gave a new depth to Fury to see his interactions with Talos, but killing Talos to me killed the whole show. They abandoned the theme, and not only that, ignored' for the most part, Talos' death, esp. Its effect on Fury, which stunted Fury's arc on the show. Why didn't we see him mourn? Why didn't he at least tell the Prez that a skrull saved his life? It was like they suddenly made the varra/Fury Bstory the Astory to salvage losing Talos.

Peacemaker is a masterclass on how to make a television show. Fans were the only ones tuning in week one but through the superb storytelling and unparalleled comedy, Gunn had the entire nation tuning in by week two and growing each and every week to the finale. Word of mouth is still king and EVERYONE was talking about it constantly, my coworkers, my boss, my aunt, and my neighbor, I could talk to anyone about what was going on and theorize what we thought was going to happen. SOOO many people who don't watch comic book movies tuned into Peacemaker because it was no doubt one of the best shows that year, in my opinion, one of the best superhero TV shows ever while also having the potential to make you cry laughing. Marvel had a story with x1000 the potential and made a piece of actual trash that even the most dedicated fans won't go back to review. I hate to see Marvel burn but they will continue to be outclassed now that Gunn is at DC. Marvel/Star Wars/Disney absolutely has to put the agenda to rest or the fans will cheer their slow death. *Cue DaFoe Goblin "but the one thing they love more than a hero is to see him fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you have done for them, they will hate you."*

One had awesome characters performed by an awesome cast, humour and a very well written story. The other was secret invasion

Robert Patrick was in Peacemaker, and Christopher McDonald was in Secret Invasion. Both actors starred in The Faculty, a film ALSO about an alien invasion. I guess the multiverse does exist then.

I crack up just listening to him roast secret invasion

the great thing about Peacemaker was that they maintained a mystery about who the aliens were. We as the audience were finding out about who were aliens just as the characters were. The stakes were high and there was a sense of urgency. Whereas Secret Invasion they kept revealing straight away who the Skrulls were even before the characters found it. At times it was easy for the characters to know anyway because they had a specific actor playing each Skrull character. So the show was lacking "secrecy" and mystery. Also i dont think the Skrulls needed heroes DNA to morph into their appearance and they already seem to possess super strength. Also theres not really a vast array of powers currently in the MCU to make a Super Skrull that interesting. Most of our characters are just super strength based and the rest are powerless with the exception of a few

The best format is back!

Secret invasion should have been a several season series. Slowly building stories of different characters being taken and replaced. And the ending was nuts. Making a God level character of a super skull, gawd. Could have just left it like the original super skrull.

I also liked in Peacemaker how they had the Justice League arrive to show it was in the same universe, they exist (they just got there late because of the ocean). I know Fury gave a reason for not calling in others like avengers but it felt cheap

These shows aren’t even comparable

Was there even any “butterfly” source material? Because since Peacemaker aired I’d been saying bravo to James Gunn for doing “secret invasion” way before Marvel and potentially even better, which we know in hindsight is beyond true. And I’ve been here since Tromeo and Juliet so I’m ready for anything Gunn puts his energy into.

James Gunn wrote Peacemaker in six weeks if I remember it right. Secret Invasion was written by at least a dozen people over time and then re-shot and re-tooled and shuffled around. I've watched Peacemaker at least four times but I barely remember that Secret Invasion exists.

You must really hate secret invasion if you are comparing it to the goat that is the Peacemaker series 💀

Great video! Totally ready to re-watch Peacemaker. However, I feel we are all being a bit harsh with Secret Invasion. The show was influenced by the early phases of the pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine. In addition to internal issues at Marvel/Disney, too many people seemed to be involved prior to release of the final product, which likely had a deadline pushed by investors. The team "checked the box". Perhaps they'll consider a re-imagined series or film in the future.🤷‍♀

Expectations for Nick Fury vs Peacemaker are way different in both their screen time and authority position in their respective Universes. The introduction of the skulls was as refugees, the body snatchers were discovered in the show and have the implicit danger of killing their host.

This is why Marvel needs to tell more grounded stories with lower stakes and compelling character driven narratives. Black Widow was their first opportunity for a spy thriller and it was basically a Michael Bay movie full of over the top explosions that verge on parody. Studios would rather choose a formulaic story that does not deviate from your typical action fare. The result is a hollow shell of a film that ticks off the correct boxes without seeing any of the plot points through.

Plus i believe they f-ed up 1 important established fact in Secret Invasion. Fact that would raise stakes for good guys in that show. In SI. they find out skrulls instantly and easily just by wounding them - they bleed green, they are exposed. And no you wouldnt need to shoot them as spy, you could use maybe ring with sharp edge while shaking hands, or many ot. simple tests. Which makes their shapeshifting soo much less dangerous. BUT in Cpt Marvel movie Carol clearly states to Fury that either cheek swab or urine test WONT identify person as skrull bec. DNA would still match human. So if those fluids look human in testing, i think blood would too. Skrull should be identified only in death or in some kind of MASSIVE trauma like heavy exlposion where damage is high or skrull loose control over their body. That would make identifying Skrulls in SI soo much harder and making their shapeshifting skill trully scary.

Peace maker is a very good show james gunn is a tough loss for marvel ,but im excited to see how he handle the new DC.

One worked because James Gunn is the best at this genre and understands you have to be invested in the characters before you can invest in the humor and comic book action. Guardians trilogy is the best in the MCU.

The BIGGEST problem with secret invasion is it should've been it's own saga before jumping straight into the Multiverse saga. Nothing about the skrulls so far feels like a massive threat that will shake the mcu. They just exist.

One was funny, well written, and unique. Peacemaker was really good. Secret Invasion was a rushed hack job, half-ass representation of what was a genuinely good story. The ending of SI....what a giant waste, I hope they never introduce that character again and let her fade into obscurity.

It's almost like we watch movies and shows mostly for characters and their relations, their friendships, their rivalries, their ambitions clashing, ect. and not just some random superpower vs. superpower CGI fest that all of Marvel has devolved into. Same reason why Marvel keeps killing off villains instead of letting them develop as characters.
