He’s talking about the RSRP honestly it depends on the carrier, but usually stays around -80 as a common place. This is also the menu that engineers and technicians use to see the signal quality. It also depends on what frequency you’re connected to. Hope this helps.

This would be so helpful at my school. I’d just go walking around and sit at the seat that will get me best service but I already know those spots are near the windows. Throughout the school you either get bad or no service.

Can you go into a secret menu which will display your iPhone battery percentage at the top without having to swipe down from the top. This would actually be useful.

This is built in all phones. I use work as an RF engineer for one of the big four telecommunications companies, and we use to do this for both android and IPhone. The rsrp is your received power strength but in reality it’s according to the PCI (physical cell ID). Each site has different azimuths point at different directions and each azimuth is organized in sectors. In one sector you can have multiple LTE carriers. Meaning different LTE signals being transmitted at different frequency bands. The issue here is that if you don’t really have a PCI map around you then you don’t really have any idea what that means or which site is serving you. In my experience that can be a cell far away that is not contained. So when you’re in the field looking for cell performance you can go a long time searching for it if the area is not well optimized. So this setting doesn’t really help you if you’re not an engineer trying to improve service and you don’t have a map of the network with LTE PCI numbers. Also some site may have matching PCIs which can make this whole situation harder. This is referred as PCI collisions and it trips up your service.

There are a couple more factors that determine signal strength. RSRP (whats shown in this video) is generally a good way to check for this. A range of -75 to -60 is a somewhat realistic range for good service (I have rarely seen -40) Your RSRP can be better, like -50 and upwards, BUT if SNR (signal to noise ratio) is not very good (worse than -20), you wont be getting the high speeds you would expect. Thats why you can have full bars, but have slow ass data. But for most uses, closer to eNB tower = better service 😂

As a telecommunications and cellular networks engineer, I confirm his claims. Nevertheless, the number appeared is the signal strength he is getting from the cellular site (towers). Your signal can increase: if you go outdoors, be in higher places, get out of blocking obstacles (metal signs for instance), and ofc having a clear line of sight with the tower. Have fun! *GSM is 2G and UMST is 3G (parts of its band) can have wider coverage (compared with LTE (4G)).

I used to reprogram iPhones which you can do for the OS it’s just a pain. But I replaced the bar with numbers by reprogramming along with other things. Was super nice.

Looks a lot different when I do it now on most recent iOS but if you choose the right hand side tab at the top of the screen that comes up then the very first option in the menu you get similar info that changes every so often.

I don’t know about other countries but in Britain you can call a certain number on your phone and it will tell you if your phone is being tracked through your connection to the telephone masts. I don’t know what the number is but a friend who used to get tracked by the police because they were suicidal showed me it a long time ago. I’m also not sure if I used the right technological language to describe it.

I did this long ago on the iPhone 4 and I changed the cell service to the numbers and it was permanent, people were wondering how I did it and I wouldn’t tell them, I’d just show them the secret page and they’d be so interested. At the time I wouldn’t have jailbroke my iphones, only iPod touches, but I modded the front and back glass to be different colors and this was before any repair places would do that sort of thing so it was diy and people started paying me to jailbreak and change their glass color. I went through a lot of changes, one of my faves was using the light up apple logo one but I put it with a engraved piece of zebra wood. Funny that I still would rock a case. The only cases I used back then were speck candyshell and some transparent belkins as well as a case with a slide out Bluetooth keyboard because I loved the tactile feel for texting and eventually writing, but I just used a regular sized Bluetooth keyboard later and they case became obsolete anyway since it was for a 4 haha. Every phone after, I wouldn’t use a case until the iPhone 7 where I got a loopy case which is premier over a pop socket in terms of holding on, and I never really changed things about my phones again, only minor stuff. I mean one time I got cydia through safari and it was like an untethered jailbreak but I ended up getting rid of it because I joined to developer program to get the iOS betas and I would stunt on everyone for having it early and I would sell my slots, my fav thing to do was if people pissed me off, I’d remove them from the list so they couldn’t use their phones anymore because it wasn’t allowed. Strange how many people were just oblivious to how I could get it early. I eventually stopped caring about it all though, well I stopped caring about everything I liked when I started really smoking pot

I install cell systems for a living that’s not correct at all, the closer you are to zero means the service is getting worse, perfect service comes between -110 and -140 and these numbers refer to the megahertz of power being received to your phone from the cell towers

I just use an app called network cell information that literally gives you all the information you want and will also tell you where the towers are so you don't have to go play marko-polo with your decibel readings. But this is kind of cool

The number represents attenuation in dB. The lower the number the bigger the signal received.

This is available in every phone, it just tells you your signal strength at the place you are. Nothing secret about it.

I'm pretty sure those numbers are representing -dbm. Pretty much meaning the quieter the 'conversation' between your phone and the cell tower gets the lower the -dbm. That's why it seems like it's the opposite.

The older iphones you could replace the bars with numbers XD
