If you want to have crazy forearms and you want to have an easier time while doing muscle ups on the rings or even slow mo muscle ups on the bar, then you can’t avoid the False grip.
If you’ve never heard about this type of grip, or you may know it, but you’re not able to do it, in this video I’m going to tell you all you need to know.
The false grip is a special type of grip that gymnasts do on the rings, but calisthenics and street workout athletes also do it on the bar for example while doing a slow motion muscle up or hefesto.
The point of the fasle grip is to make the transition from hanging to support easier - or we could say possible - and with shortening the length of the arms hence the leverage, make some static skills easier to do.
That few inches matter a lot that you get for an iron cross, Maltese or inverted cross while doing them with the false grip, it makes them significantly easier.
Even if points are deducted from the routine if gymnasts do the strength skills like this, they still use it.
On the other hand, for the reason I’ve just mentioned, some gymnasts do the skills with perfect form and even releasing the rings with their fingers while supporting on their palms.
So shortening the leverage and make skills easier is one function of the false grip, but the other one, the transition is the one you’ll probably use the most.
Especially since the muscle up is an exercise of Crossfit as well that many people do, and if you are one of them who is looking forward to learn the strict muscle up, the following method will help you a lot.
For the strict muscle up, you simply can’t avoid the false grip. Without this, the right execition is impossible - unless you have a reeally slippery grip.
Without the false grip, you can only do the muscle up with some momentum with skipping the controlled transition part, which is an execution with compromises.
I’ve already talked about the technique and key points of the muscle ups on all eqiupment, so I won’t deep dive into these, now, we’re focusing only the false grip itself.

Yeah, been practicing for a while. Can do straight arm rows and bent arm hangs. Straight arm hangs are still a way off. False grip requires lots of forearm and grip strength, as well as wrist mobility, none of which I am naturally endowed with!

This video has opened my eyes to a serious problem I have had for years now with my wrists/forearms. I saw using gymnastics rings on a power lifting channel to build forearm strength. That's why a clicked on a different video of yours and then came to this one. When I flex my wrists (especially on my right side) like to do a push up or lifting weights, I keep hurting my forearms at my wrist, also my right elbow. Maybe the elbow is also a forearm problem, too. I was thinking it was a strength problem. But now I see that I need to stretch a lot! I haven't done any gymnastics since I was in High School. I did train for Kung Fu privately with a friend of mine when I went to a different High School. So I completely understand the benefits of stretching beyond what most people think is possible. I was shocked when I saw you lift up bending at your knuckles. I did not think that was even possible. Now I know what I need to do. Thank you very much. This is a really important thing for me.

@MicheleAncis
@MicheleAncis 2 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for explaining the false grip in such detail. I've got a question out of the blue, if you happen to read and want to give a reply. I'm turning 50 in a couple of months and I've been "interested" in calisthenics for the past year, with some sort of progress in terms of muscle, but I would say I'm still in the "pre" phase (say I could do 20 standard push-ups) - I set out a goal for the year to be able to keep *tuck* planche for 5-10 seconds, it seemed a reasonable goal, but now I'm having second thoughts... Do you think that's realistic?
@oscarolvera9069
@oscarolvera9069 2 жыл бұрын
Hi michele I'm obviously not him but I'll advice you to don't put certain time for a hard progression. Go for small goals per week or month, take care of your technique, make one more rep. Or start with a harder progression.
@MicheleAncis
@MicheleAncis 2 жыл бұрын
@@oscarolvera9069 thanks for your reply! You know, these "yearly goals" have a good effect on me :) But I hear what you say: take it one step at the time, on a weekly/monthly basis. My question is more related to the ability, past a certain age, to perform certain skills which might just be too hard. For that, I thought that Adam might have some experience as he's coached many people.

You have to let your arms rotate to a position where they find it comfortable to get straight.
