Jeff did the same thing for the song Africa with Manu Katche in Paris, I was there. He didn’t took a notebook he took a camcorder and filmed Manu with a huge smile.

Oh.. I've never heard of this beat before. I created the same exact beat, I want to say in 1959. . I called it the Timmy Shuffle. Well, you heard it the KZfaq comment section first! Its not the Purdie Shuffle, its the Timmy Shuffle .

Very cool to get Bernard on the show! He's a legend! One thing that occurred to me: I play the shuffle pattern of the right hand with a drop-catch approach. In other words, I drop on the third note of the triplet and catch on the one. Some drummers do a "close-open" approach where the "close" is on the third note of the triplet and the "open" is on the one. Is there any "preferred" way to do this?

Good question. I believe you’ll find your method generally easier than the second, but I wouldn’t say one is superior… they are just different! That being said, for this shuffle in particular I gravitate towards keeping my fingers “closed” to keep it all wrists.

when he does the "normal" version on the hi hat, yes! think of it as a swiss army triplet starting on the last note of the triplet, but you have to play the flam flat (in unison)!

Following from 6:30, inStep 3 of Percaro's examples the Drum Notation is wrong; missing the kick on last backbeat.

glad you noticed, this was intentional! You'll notice Jeff doesn't play that bass drum in his first loop. It's not audible on the record, and likely something he started adding later during live performances.
