Donald Trump’s would-be assassin was identified and warned as a “threat” by the Secret Service, according to the New York Post.
Law enforcement sources spoke to the Post and revealed despite the warning, the Secret Service did not act on it.
The government agents identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as a "character of suspicion" on the rally's grounds.
The warning over Crooks’ suspicious activity was made an hour before the Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, according to sources.
United States Senator John Barrasso slammed the Secret Service’s actions at the rally.
“He was identified as a character of suspicion because [he had] a rangefinder as well as a backpack. And this was over an hour before the shooting actually occurred,” he said.
“So, you would think over the course of that hour, you shouldn’t lose sight of the individual. Somebody ought to be following up on those sorts of things. No evidence of that happening at all.”
