It's interesting talking to inherently talented people, but as a normal person myself with aspirations of mathematical research all I'm left wondering is - what room is there for me in the mathematical community? When a field is stratified by intrinsic aptitude like maths is, one wonders what the people with the real gifts think about those of us struggling to make meaning out of things that come so easy for them. Of course, everyone works hard. But I find this less inspirational and more discouraging as a non-smart person who tries their best.

for real dude. Some people say maths is all about hard work but it is not.Its all about thinking and here comes the issue.Iq is something that is only genetics and it can not be increased .So people who have great iq genetics are surely gonna excel unlike us with average iq struggling to solve even a simple puzzle

Try to connect to the autist community and learn how to protect against bullying. Succes in the world is much less about IQ and skills than about "fitting in" and social networking. Means: even if you are great in math and science the game is manipulated against you. Normal people don't like us because our body language is different and because they can sense that we are genetically different. In Europe and with the new data from the neanderthale genome research I see clear signs for speciation/ interrupted gene flow. And for the xenophobic hate that a different species of humans will face from the main species 😢 What is happening in Africa and in relation to autism is underesearched. Some statistics claim a relative high rate of autism there. That would be good, because in that case you are not outnumbered 50 to one like here in Europe. Whatever nation gets the bullying against authist under controll first will become a scientific leader. And something tells me it will not be Europe.

Not all schools make these things available. Often MATHCOUNTS isn’t available. The AMC is often not available either except in private schools or wealthy districts. After Covid it became extremely difficult to register for the AMC at different schools. Parents with enough money will move to have this available to their kids. This is disproportionately more available to wealthy families.

hello, i love this video and hearing goel's insight was very useful. however, even though goel is certainly a prodigy, a don't know if putting "prodigy" in the thumbnail supports your channel's idea of hard work and dedication resulting in improvement. it kind of gives off the vibe that the average person should just admire and realize that they will never be able to accomplish such a feat. and while that fact may unfortunately be true, i don't think it should be promoted as part of your channel.

If you do the math, it looks like the Copernicus International Math Olympiad is a huge money-making scheme of the organizers: cheap prizes and awards, dozens of gold, silver, bronze medals to make each country happy, apparent share in expenses for tours, hotel accommodations, etc. One red flag: the organizers don't give the long list of winners. Each contingent upon returning to their respective countries just focus on the medals, awards of their native sons giving the impression that they were overwhelming winners. I hope I'm wrong.

This is not what a prodigy is compromising other aspects of growth like sports social interaction just to win a olympiad medal almost all of interests are in mental tasks where is the physical growth secondly olympiad mathematics is a false indicator of future success in professional math let him win a fields medal or a Turing award what he achieves professionally is what matters all these competitions are just time pass .Herb Simon was a political science PhD got a turing and nobel raj reddy was a civil engineer won a turing revolutionised robotics and speech so the ones who turn out to be ultra successful in actually shaping fields never bothered about this jugglery

@@tejassuresh8221 Half of last year’s Fields Medalists were IMO/math olympiad competitors. I think that’s a pretty strong trend. Might not be a causation, but clearly, competitors like Ram are on the right path to achieve brilliance in their respective areas of interest. Being a top 0.x%er is a strong indicator for future success in any discipline. This is an interesting phenomenon that has been studied extensively. It’s the same reason why these medalists are recruited by top firms in finance.

Look, the big difference between Olypiad math success and professional math success is one has answers and the other, no one knows. In Professional math, mathematicians are solving problems that no answers exist. In essence, they are creating new math. In Olympiad math, it's all about the clever applyication of known techniques to yield known results in a short amount of time. Professional math has no time limit and the problems have no known solutions. So no, Olympiad success does not automatically translate to professional math success as they are two very different things. Yes, it's true that many IMO winners/participants find professional success but there is no direct link because the two are very different. Terrence Tao himself is an IMO winner and he clearly sees the difference having won IMO medals and the Fields medal. They are two totally different beasts requiring different disciplines. IMO problems are based on existing techniques. In professional math, the techniques to solve a problem may not yet exist as Terrence Tao points out so solving it is pretty much slim to none at best. This is why IMO success doesn't necessarily translate to professional math success.

The approach these two indians take to math is problematic and misleading, they consider math as puzzle solving games which can be applied to different studies. While for anyone who took undergraduate/graduate mathematics courses wouldn't agree with such point of view.
