I moved to Dartmouth from Scotland in the mid 70s for a couple of years. People were friendly and helpful but couldn't understand my Glasgow accent so I had to learn a Canadian accent pretty quickly. I remember swimming in the lakes and hanging around malls, sliding on a crazy carpet, learning ice hockey on the frozen lakes, freezing rain, and snakes, catching huge trout and Natal Day. Thanks for great memories Nova Scotia. I shall return. ;-)

thinking of saving in Ontario and eventually moving there for homesteading and part-time work.... Maritimers have been the ONLY truly friendly Canadians I have met.... The rest of Canada is slowly becoming East Europe

Playing the violin for you ~*poor me, im a sick of this, the government sucks*~Life is what you make it with that kind of attitude your going to have nothing no matter where u live, I agree your kind just don't belong on the East coast! The Maritime's is where genuine, considerate and compassionate family's are raised to thrive strong! My values are from the heart of NOVA SCOTIA....WE ARE THE MEANING OF HOSPITALITY AND PROVE TO BE THE MOST SELFLESS CARING PEOPLE.

Cool, I grew up in Shad Bay, spent the first 15 years of my life there. It's a nice little place. Lived on Maher Dr., Alderwood Acres, down near the end. Wish I could go back some day.

My family got a land grant there in1812. They stayed there till 1860 then moved to Dartmouth and Halifax. They were the Fawson's, Duggans and Coolins.

Though Fantome operated in the Chesapeake Bay, which seems to have been controlled by the Royal Navy, it was not involved in the attack on Washington. When it sank, it was escorting ships going from Saint John to Halifax, and may have had some booty from Washington. A few years ago someone had a license to dive in the area, but I don't know if any remains have been found.

I live in Prospect Village and you are right about the ship not being apart of the attack on the White House.

The Fantome raided Chesapeake Bay--but it was NOT part of the fleet that attacked Washington. It was coming from Saint John when it sank and may have had some of the loot from Washington on it.

Port-Royal was one of the first European settlements in North America, leaving a lasting legacy on the area that can still be felt today. When French merchant and explorer, Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons, and his cartographer, Samuel de Champlain, scouted for an area to settle in 1604, they originally chose the island of Saint Croix in the river between Maine and New Brunswick. However, after a particularly harsh winter on the island, during which half of the 79 colonists died of scurvy, de Mons realized he needed to find a more sheltere

Yeah, I agree Adam. I'm quite happy where I am. Low crime rates that's for sure. And it's also going down. Although I do agree that the taxes at 15% are pretty high but it doesn't affect me very much at all.

Jan 2020 - Please be aware that there is a mammoth viewing deck planned for construction at Peggy's Cove by June 2020, with cantilevered portions of the deck that will necessitate grading the granite boulders, pouring tons of concrete, and irrevocably changing this iconic view forever from many view planes. If you are concerned about this issue, and want more information, join the FB Group, Save the Natural Beauty of Peggy's Cove. Over 700,000 visitors go to this site annually, and if they do, they won't see this view anymore, unless the plans of Develop NS are stopped or curtailed.
