How true. We live in a social media world. Who really knows if a YT influencer is telling the truth or if he is just being paid by a company to promote a product that he (she) claims is better?

That quote is a perfect example for the latest cerakote ceramic coating disastrous marketing. And the ceo said that he’s not really fan of torture tests. That’s his opinion. I am. Thanks for sharing that quote Jimbo and never being a sell out. I can spot a phony 100 miles out

Your up early this Sunday but I agree with a product being torture tested. We charge a lot of money for ceramic coatings and I could not sleep if a product failed after a few automatic car washes. Ten months ago I coated my step dad’s truck and he runs the truck through a car wash weekly. The coating is still strong today. I would feel like a salesman selling snake oil if the coating failed.

Valid. Something we always need to remember is it usually comes back to the detailer who installed it. Not the name on the bottle. Thus easy for a ceo to say “you have nothing to lose”.

Torture test have, or should have, 2 purposes. 1- What are the limits of a product? 2 - Does it do what is supposed to do? In the old days some companies wouldn't allow good enough or just works. We were forced to outperform the initial specs or adjust the product expectations. This was way before the advertisers on YT pretending to be consumer advocates until they get paid by some brand.

Spot on as usual Jimbo👍Critical thinking is an immensely important and overlooked skill in life that can be applied to so many situations. I like listening to other peoples experiences with products, but I’ll do a lot of research and ask around before I pull the trigger on a new product.

Ya. What’s also weird is they don’t know what the ideal conditions for application is. Also, didn’t they say they make for a bunch of brands. If that was true wouldn’t they have these answers? If I was a brand and they were making my stuff I would be out after all this.

I am new to all of this, but am very into research before I pull the trigger on new things. I’d rather see 50 washes through a spray and pay than 50 hand washes with a ph neutral soap. The consumer is almost afraid to take their car to the car wash anymore as it may ruin what they have applied. Reality is, it may be the only way at certain times. I understand as a pro you want to be in control of how the vehicle is maintained to an extent, but wouldn’t want the product stripped from a few passes through a spray and pay or auto car wash facility

A ceramic coating is supposed to be a premier coating system. It was always sold to be more durable and long lasting...especially compared to a typical carnuba wax. So if I were to purchase a "high level" ceramic coating system and it fails or it's behaviors/attributes are not holding up after a wash or two...then what's the use. Might was well use a Mother's or P21S. I believe there needs to be an authority/governing body that is monitoring the manufacturing of these products (if there already isn't) so there's more control over what people sell and claim. It's getting out of hand, I think. Ok...off my soap box :)

Keep up the good work Jimbo! It's all about the profit for a lot of these companies out there and can be rather difficult sifting through them and getting products that actually perform as well as or better than expected. Is that coating on the far right of the panel one of Walter's/Your Coatings? Or can you say what coating was on that panel yet when compared to the $30 coating company?

I appreciate the honesty in your video and these have been my concerns as well with the product that shall not be named. I love the company and went into my experience REALLY wanting to love the product. The application and ease of install, gloss, and slickness was amazing. But durability is a BIG point. I live in Florida - it rains a lot. The puddles I drive through no doubt have grease, gasoline, run-off from pressure washing company chemicals, etc... Probably not "lighter fluid" but it's also reasonable to expect to accidentally spill gas/diesel every now and then at the pump and hope you didn't just destroy your ceramic coating. What's most disappointing to me is I spent two weekends detailing, 2 step correcting, and applying this coating to my truck and wife's sedan. A month later I did a wash and some of the wheel cleaner got on the fender areas of the vehicles (sat for maybe 1-2 minutes before rinse) where I can visibly see the hydrophobics have now been hindered. I don't care about the $30 (let's be honest - it's $60+) but I do care about the 18+ hours between coating both vehicles being a waste of time now that I want to get a more durable coating on there. For the asking, I applied the coating in mixed environments in my garage mostly controlled - 75F/60%RH & 50F/40% and appeared to have cured fine since they didn't wash off after the first wash. I did also use this company's spray topper on both just to try and gain more durability.

Sorry you had to go through that. It’s one of the main motivations for me personally as to why I even started torture testing products way back when. The good news for you is that it’s not hard to strip it completely off and all your correction work should still be good. So just a strip and re coat is all that should be needed.

I believe what i know. What I touch what I used... it's like these days i seen detailing class online..... doesn't make any sense to me...... you have to feel paint, fabric and all the other stuff to experience things..... all these industries are just selling stuff THAT they buy from other companies that they don't even understand themselves... do you ever think about this james! Back in the day we never use to get water spots on cars. Now we do it's because we start it 😅 buy putting sealant and coating on our car's from you put that on the car it's an ongoing process apply apply apply 🤦🏾‍♂️

100% most companies don’t even know what they’re selling. That’s why every detailing company (with the exception of a few) look all the same. Modern paint protection tho comes from a need that car manufacturers are spraying paint super super thin, unlike the days of yesteryear. Thus just like most things, one issue creates another opportunity.

Speaking of secrets, what's in that Fireball Wax Off or Kamikaze No 5 stuff? Does the same blender make them both? Wax Off seems to work well, I assume it's a light abrasive plus detergent but don't know. One of the easiest products that actually strips sealants.

Ceramic coating torture is akin to an impact driver torture test when submerged underwater. These are not designed to be used underwater, but accidents happen. Similarly, with vehicles, companies conduct head-on collision tests.

If the aforementioned ceramic coatings company produces products or components of products for other companies or distributors, they would definitely know their share of the marketplace. All big companies do. And I'm sure they've got a good legal team that made sure however they worded what they said was correct. If others read it incorrectly or more broadly or generally than they stated, that's not their fault. Best thing to do would be to clarify their claim, rather than further controversy by spreading it

He's not the only one though. The way KZfaq works is that everyone is racing to get their videos out and they call it a "review" when it's just a first application video. I agree it sucks and they should call it a preview not review. The $30 coating isn't even the first time this has happened. TRC and others hyped the hell out of DPT like it's a total revolution and the consumer coatings are mediocre at best. You can tell when a coating is bad because the "x month update" videos don't get made and they pretend the coating never came out.
