Dude - thanks for all of your tip videos. I used to play at various bars around town with a small band (mostly easy dance music, with constant requests for Wipeout - lol). I loved it - I was 17 years old, my step dad was our guitarist, and I literally had 0 responsibilities. But when I got into my early 20's, I ditched playing because I had bigger priorities, and a broken back. Well here I am now, at 53, wanting to get back to playing because I loved it so much when I was much younger. I pulled out the set and discovered that I still love to work up a sweat playing harder rock, so I got a double bass pedal, which I've never had before. I am determined to learn how to use it well - if I can get a few Joey Jordison (RIP) songs down, I'll be happy (aim high, right?)! Anyway - I found your channel as I was looking for double pedal instruction, and I found a lot of other stuff in your videos to be helpful as well - either as new information, or reminders of things I had forgotten from 35 years ago. Thanks for sharing - it's very much appreciated by this old guy who just loves playing his drums! :)

Could be how you're sitting too. Check out my drum throne height video to see if any of those tips help.

It could be the position of your shoulder blades. If they aren’t retracted it could lead to shoulder and arm pain. I’ve experienced that myself. What helped me was exercising upper back and rear deltoids, and stretching the chest muscles.

I smoked for 30 years before I quit in 2019. Whether or not I’m playing drums holding my breath for a full measure is a win all on its own🤣🙃😊

Could be your grip. I'd have to actually see what's happening. But to me it sounds like your grip and or technique should be looked after.

Breathing and grip aren't my weak points, I have this issue where I hit super hard 99% of the time except when I'm playing really fast or really focusing on playing softer. I think I'm just a caveman.

Use your wrists and rim shot your snare. (Doesn’t take much effort to be loud like that).

Have you tried practicing different stick heights and working on your dynamics? Like the other reply comment states, there are many ways to make your drums sing without straining or injuring yourself.
