My listening skill-boosting tip: 1) before watching any TV show, download the subtitles 2) learn all the unknown words and collocations from the subtitle file (usually it is .srt, available for free on the Internet) 3) start to watch your fav. TV show WITHOUT subtitles but with total confidence that you know ALL the words and collocations from the episode. 4) However, despite knowing all the words you will misunderstand some part, at this moment you gotta turn on the subtitles and rewind 1 second back and relisten to the part with subtitles. Bear in mind that watching WITH subtitles is of very little use because all your attention is dedicated to READING the subtitles NOT LISTENING to the audio itself.

Hi Christina, my tip to learn english is simple: when I receive an email written in English, no matter what is the subject, I read them and look in the dictionary the meaning of unknown words and expressions. I consider it is a good exercise because this way I consider I read a large range of issues in English, this way I can expand my vocabulary faster.

Good point, cristina, most of English lessons can help but in the real world it is necessary to be able to understand a conversation that usually is fast. I'm a non English speaker, but I have to attend American clients and, in the beginning, it was a little hard, but with time, I have learned to adapt my ear. Thank you for all you give us. From Chile.

That was wonderful. Thank you. We all contract out language. I'm British, but if you want to hear how I contract my sounds, I have a lot of English talks. I think I can help you improve your English and teach you something as well.

Just understand that Kristina has purposely slowed her speech down to make herself more understandable. If she were speaking to an exclusively American audience she would likely speed things up, because her audience would get annoyed if she didn’t.

@•⁓Hot Chocolate⁓• For me they all are hmmm challenging, due to phonetic differences in the first place, and those crazy linking words rules, of course. But American I hear more, and it just sounds a bit more familiar to me, I think that's the difference. Maybe you hear more British or Australians, so it's natural that you'll feel that their pronunciation is easier. :) What about Australians, is their phonetic is slightly different too? And Canadians, it must have some differents either? Oh :))) Honestly, I can recognize just American and British, well maybe Indians and some other dialects, but mostly, for me, they all are just terrifying speech that I just don't understand, lol. By the way, there are plenty of learning videos on youtube about British vs American pronunciation differences, worth some time to see, that's interesting. But in general, Idk what about you, guys, but in all courses that I took, the teachers were just ignoring the phonetic transcription while giving us a new bunch of words. And it's pity since it improves my reading/writing skills which I need, no doubt, but what about to recognize the same word I thought I just learned by heart, but into the speech - oh, that's another issue!

@Aashi Singh So true. I've never met Irish English native speaker yet, but I met some Scottish and friends, I just didn't understand them at all, even when they were saying "Hi, good morning", lol. But it was a mixed group so guys from London told me it's OK, even they, natives, needed some effort to understand Scottish pronunciation.
