Provisions of Sec.80D have been very lucidly explained. My query is : A senior citizen has paid medical insurance premium of ₹30000/- for himself. In addition he has paid ₹5000/- on his health check up. It is quite clear that he is eligible to claim a deduction of ₹35000/- u/s 80D. He has in addition spent ₹12000/- on purchase of day to day medicines for himself. Is he eligible for claiming this amount of ₹12000/- spent on medicines ?

I have also query on that, ok regular medicine not eligible, but, what about any opd consultation fee and test such as xray, ultrasound, ct, MRI, which are very much costly. Unless, got admitted fotlr 24 hrs, insurance claim can't be availed. It should be allowed for tax exemption on Medical Expenses, which is not claimed in insurance.
