You can do it! just remember if you go higher than a few inches you will need different springs and a liftmaster #3800 opener. A normal opener starts to pull back almost immediately but if you add 6-7 inches of vert lift your door doesn't pull back with the opener because it's still going straight up. a #3800 will take care of that for you. Thanks for posting. If i can raise one door and get a lift for my two summer-only cars in one stall my wife will be super happy to reclaim a stall for her daily driver which takes a beating outside in our canadian winters(35 below last night)

I've done quite a few of the hi-lift jobs as well as doing the "pitch to the roof" jobs where you angle the track upwards to follow the ceiling pitch, and on one job in Del Mar I did both, first I added a few inches of lift, then cut and angled the horizontals to follow a sharp pitch upward, it takes new springs to hold the door up, sometimes longer cables depending on vertical height and sometimes even a new Liftmaster #3800 Jackshaft opener, but it's all do-able. Normally when I go higher than a few inches, I will contact the mfg of the door and tell them how much more vertical lift or pitch of the track I am going to use and from there they recalculate the springs...usually longer springs. With out the right springs you would probably spin a cable.

I've gone up as high as 2 ft and angled the track at a hell of a pitch with the roof and have not had to use highlift drums.
