Using the right elastics for securing and organizing your EDC tools can be a game changer for those of us that carry gear every day. This is the second video in what is turning out to be a series about using elastics for EDC. In the first video • After A Year Of Testin... I covered what I've learned after a year of testing different types of bands with Pouches and pocket Racks . In this video I drill down into some very specific designs that are inexpensive and easily make. Elastics for your everyday carry gear are going to be a key component of just about every EDC kit you can put together. They are used in large and mini EDC pouches, tins and pocket organizers. It surprises me that there is little EDC related info on this topic. Hopefully these two videos will help to fill that void.

It took me a while to get these from half a world away (China), but they are a marvel. I'm beyond impressed that you found these. Figuring out how to describe/name them would have been beyond me.The new elastics are a revelation. Thanks for your hard work on this project.

@PhilippeDoyleGray - On occasion I go back to that first Pocket Rack KZfaq video, just to remind me of how far this project has evolved over the past year. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNydZcynv7qtfKc.html . It's been a pretty dramatic evolution, but the underlying concept is still holding up well. Thanks for posting !

Several of the PCB printing stores also run cheap 3d printing services. Send them the file and a cc number and it'll show up a week later, sourced off a local participating print farm.

Phil, your using my application of elastic shock cordage, using it per location versus as I've used it continuously throughout a rack without availability of the beads. Optionally, you can tie a knot or heat seal the ends together with match or over a stove. I've got to get the beads - good idea for the sliding/center placement bead.
@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 2 ай бұрын
You can also add multiple beads to each band you make, allowing you to tighten the shock cord in multiple locations on a single tool. Can you do a short video on how to heat seal the shock cord? I've been trying too figure that out and can't find anything online. Many thanks for the info and for posting..

Joe - Thanks for posting. Pocket Racks are an open source 3D printed community driven project. Unlike a single product that is sold by a company, this one keeps evolving as new ideas are introduced by EDC enthusiasts who are contributing to the project. I'm not sure it will ever be done, but I'd encourage you to make one for yourself . You can find instructions here for accessing the free print file and getting one printed: bit.ly/EDCELASTICS2

new design is cool. I am still a big fan of the silicon rings but I will give this a try!
@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 2 ай бұрын
@TheSac1122 Thanks for posting. The O-rings work just fine, but keep an eye on them for cracks and splits where the silicon might be tearing from friction where the card is coming in contact with the O-Ring. The new elastics have a nylon cover that reduces that friction issue. Enjoy!

Look up local laser or waterjet companies and make the plates out of 304 stainless steel or 6061 Alu in 1mm thickness or so. I would be surprised if it was even cheaper than the 3D printed version.

I'll have to check to see if I have some small guage copper wire to use to pull the bead onto the shock cord. If not, perhaps I could pull it through with dental floss.
@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 2 ай бұрын
@Castleknight Multi strand electrical wire is where I got the piece that I used in the video. If you've got an old extension cord in your junk drawer, it's probably copper multi strand. Fishing line also works well. I don't think that dental floss will work because it's not rigid enough to push through the bead. Thanks for asking.

@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 2 ай бұрын
@larshoneytoast722 Thanks for posting - The first method with the white elastic shock cords gives you the ability make custom bands that are specifically designed for the individual EDC tool that you want to mount on a rack. That's actually a big deal. It gives you a MUCH more secure binding for your tools that the one size fits all that you get if you use hair ties alone. Try both :-)

Why aren’t you selling the pocket racks?
@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 2 ай бұрын
That is a question that I get often. There are thousands of companies that will 3D print the free STL file for you. Pocket Racks™ come in different versions and are an open source 3D print design, so anyone can print one or customize the design. The only major restriction is that you can't sell them. There is a utility patent pending. To make one for yourself, go to: www.thingiverse.com/search?q=Pocket+Rack+EDC&page=1 and download any of the six versions that you would like to print. You can then go to a website like printathing.com , or a local 3D printing service in your area and have them make one or more of them for you. This PDF has more details on sourcing the elastics that are used with them. See: bit.ly/EDCELASTICS2 and the video you just watched shows how to make the elastics bands that are used on the Racks. You don't need to buy a printer. I don't even own one. I have a friend who prints them for me. I've been looking into printing them for viewers, but I know what it takes to fulfill online orders and support customers who purchase your products. I don't want to get into that unless I can do it well and right now, my spare time is limited to creating these videos. Many thanks for asking..
