have you ever been caught when testing public exit and emergency lights? if so, what happened? what's the worst they could do to you if you get caught or whatever? i'm thinking of doing it myself like you did in your old series. is it actually illegal to do? is it actually tampering or whatever? i've heard different things so i don't know what to believe. you seem to be the best one to ask because of your knowledge and experience in this field etc...
@ExitSign250
@ExitSign250 4 жыл бұрын
I have on few occasions. And I wouldn’t consider it “illegal.” At most, it’s tampering. And I think the worst that could happen is you get kicked out of the building. I don’t really encourage or discourage people testing and/or adjusting units in buildings. I feel if you have units, and know about them and want to do a simple test or adjust a head to point better than where it was previously, it can’t hurt anything. But for those that don’t know much and just want to do it anyway, that can lead to some problems. I’ve seen some test units they didn’t know had self-diagnostics and it lead them not being able to get the unit out of test. Or people accidentally breaking the test button so the unit cannot get out of test. Like I mentioned, I haven’t been caught a lot, but when I am I simply explain myself and what I’m doing. Doesn’t hurt to be honest. And I can always back myself up with my channel and videos to prove it. The responses I’ve received range from “oh ok” or “ok but just don’t do it again.” However once an employee threatened to call security on me. I’ve done this so long it doesn’t bother me, but for others they may not know exactly what they’re doing.
@tanyasobsessions2131

@@ExitSign250 are incandesent exit signs and emergency lights ever self diagnostic? i'm not sure if they ever had the tech for it back when it was common. i'm thinking that older buildings with older exit signs don't have self diagnostics? are more and more units self diagnotic based on your experience as the tech becomes more available and standard i imagine. i only have one unit in my collection that is self diagnostic so if i think it's self diagnostic, i'll leave it alone though because of the way tech is going, more and more could have it and people may not know so i see why it's so important to really know what you're doing or first become friends with the store owner or something like that first. i know with my own self test unit, you just push the button for a second for a tiny self test so i think i'll push the button for only a sec to be on the safe side first, just in case it is a self testing unit. also i've learned a lot from your channel in terms of being able to recognize what unit is which and how to test each and things like that. also my height is 4 foot 5 inches so it's highly unlikely i'll ever be able to even reach any of them sadly which is fine. i can be more then happy with admiring them from a far and keeping my paws off where they should be. not much experience.

what is the purpose of a flood light? how are they different from emergency lights etc....? been trying to understand what they are used for, when they are used vs a emergency light etc... if anyone can help clear things up, that'd be great.
@ExitSign250
@ExitSign250 4 жыл бұрын
A flood light is a light fixture designed to brightly light up a space. They’re mostly found outdoors, but you can occasionally find them indoors. They function like any other light fixture. An emergency light is a light designed to illuminate in a power outage. It’s main purpose is to help people evacuate a building during a power outage, however it can also light up areas for convenience in power outages when there isn’t an emergency. In short, flood lights serve as light fixtures, while emergency lights only operate during power outages.

Yeah, security sirens have always creeped me out for some reason. Not really sure why. I’ve always had a fear that I would accidentally set off the alarm and get the cops called and get arrested. And I guess hearing the siren makes me always think the cops are coming! Haha.
@CrowJamz
@CrowJamz 3 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 other security sirens don't really scare me at all, i'm actually fascinated by them. this one in particular, there's just something so scary about it. and everytime i watch alarm videos with the same siren as mine, my stomach sinks. what's even scarier is we have two of them. one on opposite sides of the house. when i was younger, i accidentally clapped and set the alarm off. i was standing directly under one of the sirens, and it was so loud i ran away crying lol.
@CrowJamz
@CrowJamz 3 жыл бұрын
and also a food for thought. when the alarm gets set off, both sirens go out of sync, and gradually go back into sync again. any clue on why that is? makes it even more creepier.
@ExitSign250
@ExitSign250 3 жыл бұрын
They both have their own siren drivers inside them that will individually sound each siren. They just sometimes will sync up with each other briefly then go back out of sync. That happens with a lot of things. Another unrelated example of this is if you’ve ever been at a red light in a turning lane with multiple cars and their turn signals are on. You’ll noticed every so often a few car’s signals will be in perfect sync then go right back out of sync. It’s a similar phenomenon like with the sirens.
@CrowJamz
@CrowJamz 3 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 got it, that makes more sense. we are thinking about getting some sort of dmp, concord 4 or some sort of vista, because unfortunately adt will not monitor the old dsc's anymore. idk if you have heard of *6, master code, then 4, which sounds the siren and keypads for a few seconds, but doesn't contact the monitoring company. we had an issue with the landline and were told to call them, they told us to do this. after failing to make contact with the monitoring company (because it's not supposed to....) they immediately scheduled an appointment to upgrade us, when there really isn't anything wrong with the dsc system. the only real trouble we have with it sometimes (which adt is not aware of) is sometimes when armed in stay, opening a door could take a few seconds for the system to realize it was opened, like the zone light comes on the keypad but it doesn't countdown for atleast 5 seconds. however in every other mode (stay instant for example) it's immediate as it's supposed to, so no real issue there. unfortunate we have to get it replaced though, dsc served us well with no problems at all since 1997. on a completely unrelated note, i did not know these systems can actually be firmware upgraded to use new wireless devices and even the really new stuff like the neo keypad. nice for dsc to support it still lol.

Can someone tell me the difference of Stay and Away mode?
@ExitSign250
@ExitSign250 4 жыл бұрын
Stay mode is for when occupants will remain in the building. So only doors, windows, and break glass detectors will cause an alarm. Away mode does the same, but interior motion detectors can also cause an alarm. There can be other devices set not to activate in stay mode if needed, but it’s usually just to bypass motion detectors.
