Sedge warblers (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) are often found in wetlands.The song is varied, rushed and chattering, with sweeter phrases and some mimicry, typical of the Acrocephalus warblers. It is composed of phrases in random order, so that it is never the same. Male sedge warblers which have the widest repertoire mate with the largest number of female. The song is given from a bare perch such as a reed stem or bush, or from cover and during routine flights within their territory. Song-flights are also performed: while singing, the bird takes off, rises to a height of around 2-5 metres and then after a short circling flight, makes a slow, 'parachuting' descent, often with the wings held up in a 'v' shape
Pairs are usually social monogamous, but not strictly so. Males commonly practice promiscuity, and part of the males settle a new territory and resume territorial behavior whilst the female incubates the first clutch. When successfully pairing with another female the male will usually take part in rearing both broods

Rietzangers zijn te vinden bij riet en water. Het lied is gevarieerd, gehaast en babbelend, met ook wat imitaties van andere vogels, typisch voor alle Acrocephalus verwanten. Het is samengesteld uit zinnen in willekeurige volgorde, zodat het nooit hetzelfde is. Het lied wordt gegeven vanaf een rietstengel of struik, of vanuit dekking en tijdens routinevluchten binnen hun grondgebied. Er worden ook zangvluchten uitgevoerd: al zingend stijgt de vogel op tot een hoogte van ongeveer 2-5 meter en maakt dan na een korte cirkelvlucht een langzame, 'parachute' afdaling, vaak met de vleugels omhoog gehouden in een 'V vorm. Mannelijke rietzangers met het breedste repertoire, paren met het grootste aantal vrouwtjes. Paren zijn niet strikt monogaam. Een deel van de mannetjes vestigt zich in een nieuw territorium en hervat territoriaal gedrag terwijl het vrouwtje het eerste legsel uitbroedt. Bij een succesvolle paring met een ander vrouwtje zal het mannetje gewoonlijk deelnemen aan het grootbrengen van beide broedsels
