Given you have a few American viewers, & that some of us are older, + some have lost a bit of hearing... well, Even hearing everything perfectly, with you having that delightful accent, even with 3 replays, I simply couldn't perceive every word you said. Please make "Captions" available, always? We take our plant collecting + cultivating very seriously. I often miss key words in viewing your content -- which "Captions" would clear up right quick. Thank you -- such fun & useful plants, sedums!!

Thanks for watching, and trying so hard to understand what David is explaining. This is one of our older videos (it was uploaded before You Tube developed their amazing automatic captioning), so it didn't have the captions like the more recent ones that we are posting. We have now transcribed it, and will work on adding this to the video, but in the meantime, here's what David said.....: 00:01 If there's one perennial that definitely deserves to be in everybody's garden, 00:05 it is of course this: Sedum Autumn Joy or the Stonecrop 00:10 For here’s a plant that really has everything that you're looking for. 00:15 It's easy to grow, it's easy to look after. It's tough and Hardy, 00:19 and most importantly of all, gives a tremendous amount of interest 00:24 through the whole of the season. 00:27 Now in spring and early summer, as you see, it produces lots of this 00:31 luxuriant, succulent foliage that looks so attractive. 00:35 You can take nice big plants like this and pop them into your garden 00:40 and immediately get a beautiful instant effect. 00:44 And then, during the summertime, when it starts to flower, 00:47 it produces large cauliflower like flowers that come out - 00:53 first of all that kind of soft lime green, then they color up pink, 00:56 then they go through to a deep pink, and then, 00:59 when they're beginning to get into wintertime, 01:01 actually turn a very nice kind of bronze color too 01:05 that persists through the wintertime. And, of course, 01:08 all of those little pink star-shaped flowers that are forming inside that, 01:14 excuse me, that cauliflower type flowerhead are filled with nectar. 01:19 So lots of pollinating insects, lots of butterflies will love to come 01:24 and sit on the flowers. 01:26 And then when they’re set, they'll produce little seeds that birds love to feed on too. 01:31 So, as you see, here is a perennial that's really a very, very important plant 01:38 to grow in a sunny position, in a well-drained site, and once it’s established 01:43 really doesn't need much care and attention. 01:46 Tremendous amount going for it. You can use it and raised beds and rockeries 01:52 along the fronts of beds and borders, or for that matter pop it into a container 01:57 and be able to get lots and lots of use out of it. 02:01 Then take a look at this one. 02:03 This is a variegated form of one that was a development of Autumn Joy, 02:10 a couple of generations on, as it were. This is Autumn Delight. 02:14 It has everything that I just talked about with Autumn Joy, but in addition 02:19 as you see it has this really very attractive variegated foliage. 02:25 It was a sport that turned up with Brent Horvath of Intrinsic Perennials in Illinois. 02:32 He developed one called Autumn Charm, which is a reverse variegation. 02:37 It's green with a yellow edge around it. 02:40 Then this one he found, in the year 2000, and it has this very nice stable - 02:46 and that's unusual for these types of variegations - it's nice and stable 02:52 and stays like this really very well. 02:55 So if you're looking for a Northern Joy type, that's easy to look after, 03:00 That’s drought tolerant, that flowers and all the things I mentioned, 03:06 but in addition has this very attractive foliage, then Sedum Autumn Delight 03:12 is the one to put down on your wish list. Hopefully now you will be ablet to catch any of the details that you may have missed previously about this outstanding Stonecrop variety. Have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. And, as you find our videos helpful, it would be great if you could kindly share the links with your friends and click the "like" button too, because that helps other people find the information as well. Finally, now that our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ are continuing to bring in stocks of gorgeous plants, if you live in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region be sure to stop in and take a look…. You are welcome, we are pleased to hear it proved helpful. As for flowering, most of them will set flower because that's what they do in nature. However, several of the low growing (ground covering) types produce less noticeable flowers... so, here's a link to our website that will help you explore: grownbyoverdevest.com/splant/?_sfm_genus=Sedum Also, you might like to check out Sedum 'Angelina's Teacup' : grownbyoverdevest.com/plant/sunsparkler-angelinas-teacups-stonecrop/ because it has been especially selected as a non flowering clone. Finally, it is possible to keep the Autumn Joy types in a vegetative mode by aggressively trimming them back once they start to produce flower stems.

David , thanks so much for the info. Quick question - is this deer resistant? I enjoy all your short videos - thanks for these!

First: Thank you for your nice comments, they are appreciated Secondly: These Sedums are NOT deer resistant (unfortunately a limited amount of plants are). A hungry deer will have a go at eating almost anything! I have occasionally seen them eat these Sedums but I would say they are not on their preferred menu (if that makes sense) and sometimes it tends to be localized to certain areas. In other words, they might eat them in one garden, but leave them alone in another! And if there's other tasty things to eat (including grass on a lawn) they will pass them by! So, bottom line, I would regard them as vulnerable and therefore subject to deer damage and need protection. if you are interested, here's a link to a video I made several years ago to a sister channel on "The Best Ways To Stop Deer Eating Plants: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aqlyitBjuM7VaX0.html

Overdevest Nurseries Thank you for the response! I totally get what you mean by deers being selective or localized. They ate all my heucheras but left all of my neighbors alone! The link to the video listing ways to keep deer away was very helpful - deer repellant on garden twine and dryer sheets were my favorite, definitely going to try those. Please keep your videos coming - thanks so much again!
