Title: See Better (world premiere)

Text: Ben Wilson & Peter Ingram
See Better is based on a story shared by Jagera man Ben Wilson, who explains that Spring Hill, Brisbane was traditionally a gathering place for First Nations people from Southeast Queensland. This place was an important place for learning, particularly for men. The hill would provide a vantage point for the elders to show the young boys the surrounding land and better see the different facets of their life (e.g. fishing, hunting, conducting ceremony etc.). The lyrics of this song celebrate this special, even sacred, location and urge us all to come together to learn from each other and to share our stories with each other.
In this piece, Ben Wilson shares his personal story of Spring Hill. He has been consulted by the composer in using this story to create this work and gives permission for its performance.
Recorded at the Finale Concert of the Pemulwuy! National Male Voice Festival 2023 hosted by Voices of Birralee. The performance was given in the Concert Hall of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and recorded by QPAC on Sunday 9 July, 2023.
