From what I could see, and the little bit i could hear, I'm pretty sure he wasn't actually playing anything that was recognizable as "music". I think they talked over it rather than show the poor man picking and strumming nonsensical stuff.

@MK Duke Exactly. I've been playing for 31 years and I'm pretty sure that he was just picking random notes. It would have been kind of mean to show that with sound on national television.

You know you’re a guitar 🎸 man when Eddie Van Halen wants lessons with you.. Glen was definitely underrated as a guitarist.. few could touch his playing.

Never underrated he was at the top of the heap of musicians.

@@austinteutsch Just what I said never underrated. We met Glen in 2007 outside of Mohegan Sun casino. We had a nice long conversation with him for close to an hour. Talked about his family and music. He was a real Southern gentleman.

Debbie Campbell was right and his fourth wife robbed him blind as well as perhaps getting too close to one of the producers of his final film. The Campbell kids went to court in order to see their father which she would not allow.

Amen, have a mother going thru it now for 7 1.2 yrs and we lost dad after 5 1/2 yrs., Mom has no idea who i am. But drive once a week to spend the day with her 32 hrs away. feed her and hold her hand and tell her how much i love her. Its been 3 1/2 yrs she can’t remember us. But its ok, since then we loss our sister at age 64 and a brther this year at age 62 both to CA. the girls were a year apart. just 2 left now 68 & 69. Hope we out live MOM.

@@724ally aww Peggy. I know you're not looking for pity but telling your story. You must be a baby-boomer (born between 1946-64). Do you remember this illness as we grew up, at the rate it is now? I'm not sure but think it's running rampant in our parents generation, and it's cruel for the affected person and their family. God bless you and your mom. That's truely dedication to drive that far once a week. You must be in very good health, thank God. Hopefully we can do something about this horrible illness. Check a website with Dr. Pradnip Jamnadas, The Galen Foundation, and a lecture on 'Fast for Survival.' Also, Dr. Eric Berg and his various videos on fasting for brain health, food, supplements etc. for brain health. Look into Magnesium L-threonate and several others that can actually cross the blood brain barrier and pull calcium from our arteries to put it in the right places. Sorry so long. I will say a prayer for your blessed mom today, and for you and safe travels.

@@helplessux I’m a young Boomer born in 1964, and I can sort of speak to that. Alzheimer’s, per se, did not exist in a way because they called it senility, and, yes, it was quite prevalent. Older people forgetting and repeating themselves. Alzheimer’s is not the only cause of dementia. My dad had it from Parkinson’s. His last year he recognized me as familiar, but he didn’t know how. He asked me, “How’s your folks?” That was a big tip off. It’s very soul crushing to the family because you’re always hoping there’ll be a breakthrough moment, but it doesn’t happen My dad died in November 1996 at age 76.

Never was in a band with Glen, but some others with developing Alzheimer's, especially since swing and jazz from the 30's and 40's was my bag; they're all gone now. We remember our friends, best friend, classmate, teacher, parent or other close relatives, whether their death was from an addiction, accident,cancer, dementia, etc., see them thru with love and remember with respect for who they were and what they meant to you be it your whole life or for a very short time.

That's beautiful! What a wonderful way to give to the community. I applaud you, wholeheartedly.

Yep and you can see that on the video, a great one of Glen and Steve Wariner playing Galveston at an award show where Glen plays the guitar behind his head. On yt, google the two artists names and Galveston, several copies of it will come up. I love Johnny, Merle, Chet, Glen and on and on. The more we read or watch on the likes of Glen and Merle the more we see how the good musicians were all intertwined and loved one another. George Harrison played a Chet Atkins guitar, for example. Also, Chet discovered our beloved Waylon and Willie and the Everly Brothers and more. I love them all. p.s. Chet learned to play on a ukulele with old screen door wires. He was hungry for music as was Glen who had a Montgomery Ward kids guitar. Neither read music.

Also AllByMyself... the aforementioned video of Steve W. and Glen, where Merle H. states what you mentioned.... it's interesting that so many people and musicians never really knew the words and what they meant. However, it's not hard to listen in that song so yes, the Vietnam era was perfect timing for Galveston, and now the other horrible wars. We can't forget Jimmy Webb who wrote many of Glenn's big hits.

Yes! Wichita Lineman was my favorite too. His best work by far was when he teamed up with Jimmy Webb- one of America's best song writers. Perfect voice for Jimmy's songs.

Glenn Campbell was a musical genius. I was lucky to grow up with him (his music) as a child in the 60's due to uncles who tried to copy his style. Once the Rhinestone Cowboy got in your head he was forever there. Check out his video with Steve Wariner at the Country Music Hall of Fame where he's playing behind his head, body. I don't know if yt allows videos to be posted so just google those two artists name with 'perform Galveston.' It rocks. It starts with a few country stars talking about him so don't be dismayed if the music doesn't come right on. Also, his concert with the South Dakota Orchestra plays on my desktop at least two or three times a month. smile.

My father had Alzheimer's as well. He had a saying his whole life......when something bad happened he'd say "it sure beats the alternative". After Alzheimer's he didn't say that. It was a humiliating suffering end for him. In the end, the alternative was better than Alzheimer's 😢

He was basically a part time Beach Boy. Played on sever albums and did some touring with them off and on over the years.

I bet your Grandfather was a great man. Sorry for your family's loss. Never easy whatever the cause. I've heard Alzheimers is cruel and affects many more people than just the one who has to physically succomb to it. I hope your sadness only turns into great memories.

All4Him as I watched him play... his styling was not the smooth virtuoso we know and love. I suspect they talked over him on purpose to preserve our memory of Glen Cambell.

Exactly Carei. This is old footage. The same is to be said for the issue that his daughter Debbie had with his wife about the care he was getting, that was a few years ago too.

Agreed, he could not play at the very end. At end stages of Alzheimer's and Dementia, these vicious diseases take away your motor skills, your mind, even the ability to talk and swallow. It's a horrible, slow way to die. RIP Glen.
