in the era of 2Pac and Eminem rappers were considers villains of the music industry and of the pop culture. Bill Clinton ran his presidential campaign blaming "gangsta rap" for many of societal ills at the time (and white people tried frame most rappers that way). There wasn't any possibly any rapper would receive such an award for their art during those eras. It had nothing to do with Kendrick's talent it has to do with Hip Hop being more mainstream. An Ari Melber type wouldn't have discussed it back in the day on a news network, you have no idea how Hip Hop was consumed back in the day or even viewed by the world at large. I am talking going back to its origins. No pulitzer prizes given to any one in Hip Hop "we" weren't good enough. It was just a fad.

I think it is more that they are using the wrong word. When many people think of culture, they think of tradition and clothing and things like that. There are no African American wedding dresses or wedding ceremonies. Outside of juneteenth, which many of us didn't even think about until recently, we have no traditional African American holidays or celebrations. We don't have any cultural rules around dating and marriage. So yes, we contribute to art, dance, and music. We have movies and books. We don't have traditions. Not as a people. That is the word they are looking for. For the most part, our traditions are American with some flavor. But that isn't even unique, American traditions are slightly different from region to region. I wouldn't bother to be insulted by that. Our languages and traditions were stripped from us. We became something new. But we are still not one people. We have some commonalities like our food and how we say some words...almost everyone's people migrated from the south. But we are different enough to not be the same...music, dance, clothing, slang, etc. Maybe some of the separate groups have created regional African American traditions. We just don't have them as a group.

American Black Americans created the greatest culture. Not only do white people envy it, but so do black people all over the world whose culture is much older. The Black culture in this country was created from trauma and held people together for hundreds of years. I don't think most Black people from other countries can relate to what the Black people of the US have endured. The culture is so rich and deep, and white people have been using it since it's birth. Black people still don't get the credit they deserve for creating Jazz and Rock N Roll. I hope that people learn the difference between appreciation, respect, and homage vs appropriation.

To sell records. Let's not get it twisted. It's brilliant marketing. Everything in entertainment has to find a way to turn the art into a business. Be cognisant of it though. Why do you think Nikki beefs with everybody?
@adu11
@adu11 Ай бұрын
@@barcelonachair6487 hip hop is an art or sport that can be USED to make a profit. Not every rap beef becomes a public spectacle and I'd argue the vaaaaast majority of beef's are waged in a type of cold war format as was the case for years between these two. Don't conflate hip hop as an artistic sport w some generic tool for profit like soda or candy. Its a medium that can be utilized for either (profit or expression)

Thoroughly explained, I have to admit I didn't think I'd get such accurate journalism about the rap game. It clearly shows how far the culture has come in terms of influencing society and helping bring us all together under common discourse. I hope this shows us how common we all are when it comes to the human experience. From enjoying the music that comes out of this battle to discussing who takes the winning status. We're all getting challenged to critique what we can accept as art and we are adding to the history of Hip Hop Culture. ❤ what a time

It was a double entendre. Invoking Raphael, the Renaissance artist that was part of a Big 3 in his own art period (Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael) and Raphael the arch angel.
