I could listen and watch your videos as a marathon. Don’t worry, I’m a grandma that is truly fascinated by new art. 👍🏼 And yes, I love your tips and that you save us so much by telling us about your failures, that is real true honesty without arrogance, got to love that!

Learning a lot from your videos. My pen came with no real instructions other than how to turn it on, put in and remove filament. Understanding where to start and different possibilities makes it an enjoyable tool that I'll now use. Love the failures-learning moments- you share too! Stained glass effect was awesome! Looking forward to trying it when my skill level is a bit higher! Thank you!!!

Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but you can use things like glue stick on the glass/mirror to help with sticking (think 3d printer things on getting first layer to stick). PVA based hairspray is also a good alternative.

Far out, man. That was really groovy. I can dig it. Seriously, though, that was pretty cool. I have lots of translucent filament, but I haven't used it for anything yet. I'll have to try that mirror trick Thanks!

First off Thanks for doing a vid on see thru. Tip #1 hair spray or elmers washable glue stick will help filament stick to any surface not sure how the shiny side will turn out. Its works with opaque filaments great. I used this technique alot. Oh I wonder if you smooth the rough side then bake it how that would turn out.

I'm wondering if you could use a thin sheet of glass the same way. You'd have the extra option to simply tape your design to the underside then.
@PotentPrintables
@PotentPrintables 4 жыл бұрын

I use glass this way, and it works great. As it turns out, the cheapest way I found to buy a sheet of glass is to buy an inexpensive picture frame. Just buying a pane of glass from a hobby or craft store would have been much more expensive. Also, wrap the edges of the pane in masking tape, to avoid getting cut.

I would had never guessed it that is transparent if you didn't put the paper behind it. Those filaments are very nice to use with led lights. The only drawback is that I've found only petg samples from my local stores and I am not sure how harmful they are compared to pla.
@PotentPrintables
@PotentPrintables 4 жыл бұрын
I've only used opaque PETG- it might be interesting to try see through PETG and see if it is more durable. Let me know if you try it out, I'd love to see what it looks like.

they're called clear because when used on a 3d printer you can actually get some pretty clear prints, provided you do some post processing, but you can get the clear

The thought I have is did you try smoothing over the mirror side, esp with the stained glass style? As smoothing over the back side after the front might help. My other though is would using two warming plates clamp style help?

I also saw your pen choices video but couldn't here pick one for me because I do want to grow into and finally be able to do my drawings, Any advice, please? Oh and I'm in Europe Thank you so much I'm having a great time seeing all your videos.

I had a thought - I wonder what would happen if, after you created the flat stained-glass creation, you sandwich it between 2 mirrors that are subsequently heated with two printer beds (detached from printers, of course. :-) ) and compressed slightly? I would assume 80-90C would be sufficient. Would that smooth out the other side some? I would anticipate it would still show banding, but some of the artifacts might be reduced and give a neat effect.

Love the vid but am wondering what PLA filament to buy. Is there a difference between 3D printing filament and 3D pen filament?
@PotentPrintables
@PotentPrintables 4 жыл бұрын
Nope no difference. Just make sure you get the right diameter for your pen (typically 1.75mm diameter).
