Hi Friend!
Easy Homemade Pantry Items to Save you Time & Money in the Kitchen | Get Better Quality Food!
Its time to restock my pantry! Whenever possible, I look for ways to swap storebought for homemade pantry items, to save money and time while getting better quailty food. In this video I'll show you how to make homemade powdered sugar, brown sugar, pancake/waffle mix, cornbread mix, brownie mix, taco seasoning and ranch seasoning. I hope you get some inspiration to swap storebought for easy, homemade pantry items without the unhealthy ingredients and high price tag.
Thanks for watching!
Powdered Sugar
For every cup of granulated sugar add 1 Tbsp of Arrowroot powder or Corn Starch
Brown Sugar
For every cup of granulated sugar add 1 Tbsp of Molasses. Double the Molasses for Dark Brown Sugar
Pancake/Waffle Mix
Mix is 8 cups flour, 4 tsp salt, 6 tablespoons baking powder, 4 tablespoons sugar.
combine 2 cups of mix, add 2 eggs, 1 2/3 c milk(or buttermilk) 1/3 c melted butter and 1tsp vanilla.
Cornbread mix
Mix is 4 cups cornmeal, 4 cups flour, 1/4 cup baking powder, 2tsp salt.
combine 2 cups of mix, 1 egg, 1 c buttermilk, 1/4 c honey, 4 tablespoons melted butter. Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
Brownie Mix
Mix is 6 cups flour, 4 tsp baking powder, 4 tsp salt, 8 cups sugar, 8 ounces unsweetened cocoa powder.
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups brownie mix
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8×8 pan. Combine the butter, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk.
Add the brownie mix, whisk until smooth. Stir in optional nuts
Pour into the prepared pan and bake 25-30 minutes.
Don’t over bake these, they are pretty fudgy and gooey.
For these seasonings I add them to recipes “to taste”
Taco seasoning
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons of chili powder
2 Teaspoons of Paprika
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 and a half teaspoons of oregano
1 tablespoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 tablespoon of arrowroot root powder
Ranch seasoning
4 tablespoons onion powder
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons parsley
1 teaspoon of chives
1 teaspoon dill weed
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 tablespoon arrowroot powder
For ranch dip take 1 cup sour cream and add a tablespoon of mix, taste and add more mix if desired to your liking.
I don’t have an exact recipe for dressing, I kind of wing it, but it goes something like this... 1/2 cup Mayo, 1/4 cup buttermilk, 1/4 cup sour cream. Add one tablespoon, taste, add more to liking if desired.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite KZfaq channels! The way you present information, go through processes in real time, and show the results is so helpful. Also, I lived in Chambersburg, PA for a few years and was able to visit Hershey gardens... definitely get there if you get a chance, it's beautiful!

Did you know that the lids from parmessan cheese containers fit regular mouth mason jars? They are great for flipping open the spoon opening when measuring out your mixes or opening the shaker side when you want to shake the ingredients, such as ranch mix, onto your food. Thanks for sharing this video 💖

I kept seeing on different channels that they were using Redmond Real Salt Season Salt and loved it. I refused to pay almost $9 for a small bottle so I decided to just try and make it. (Sounds crazy I know since I didn't know what it tasted like) but I mixed it up and it has truly become our #1 favorite season salt and we use it on everything. Here's the recipe if anyone's interested! Season Salt 1/2 cup Redmond salt 1/4 cup Onion Powder 1/4 cup Garlic Powder 1/4 cup Ground Coriander 1/4 cup Ground Mustard 1/4 cup Celery Seed (I grind mine) 1/4 cup Black Pepper, 1/4 cup Paprika 1/4 cup Turmeric 1/4 cup Parsley

Oh my gosh thank you for sharing this sausage seasoning recipe mix!! I moved from the US to Scotland and they do not have American breakfast sausages. Since then I have been playing around with seasoning try to to get it right, but not quite getting it. This is fantastic! Thank you. While I no longer eat meat, I have begun making an imitation breakfast sausage using cooked oatmeal that I allow to go cold (just using oats, water and a pinch of salt). When it goes cold, it becomes a sticky mess, I add the seasoning and mix it well. I keep meaning to try adding the seasoning while the oats are still warm to see if that works any better or not but forget at the time, I then form the oat mixture into patties and fry them in a cast iron skillet with a little oil until they get browned on each side. I really enjoy them and your seasoning mix has been a game changer! I no longer dream of sausage patties from home! Now if I could find a recipe for making egg roll skins I would be happy as I would not have to wait once a year to get the foods from home thatI miss. But I just had to come back and thank you for sharing! ❤🙏

@@shelleysmith4017 For vegan sausage, I use a base of the following (I use uncooked oatmeal in mine), which makes either 4 large burger sized patties, or 8 small breakfast sausage sized ones. Just add a half batch of your sausage seasoning mix to the dry ingredients, at the start. Once mixed, let it sit for about 5 minutes, before forming the patties. What makes these better than using just cooked oatmeal patties is that the nutritional profile of mine more closely matches real meat, including the protein (from the TVP and nut butter) and vitamin B-12 (from the nutritional yeast). - 1 cup textured vegetable protein (TVP) - 1/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats (NOT instant or old fashioned) - 3/4 cup water (almost-boiling) - 2 tablespoons ketchup - 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or Liquid Aminos) - 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter (can also use tahini, or any other nut or seed butter) - 1/4 cup whole wheat flour - 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast

@shelleysmith40 I'm from the west, California and arizona. I now live in virginia. They don't have foods in the East like they do in the west. They don't make sausage here like they do in the west with sage. I feel your pain. 🙂
@shelleysmith4017
@shelleysmith4017 9 ай бұрын
@@JanineMJoi it is weird, isn’t it? And sage is one of the first things you think of when you think of sausage. If you haven’t, try having a look online to the north of VA into New England as you might find something close to the west coast sausage with sage in it. Especially the country farming sites. They can often ship it overnight in a special chill box, if you are really struggling with a craving from home. It is not something you would think would be so different in the same country, would you. I have a friend who gets homesick for breakfast meats from New England, she is now down in FL and once a year, just before Xmas, she places a big order of different sausages and bacon because “they just don’t make it right” in the south, in her opinion lol. So it could be worth a shot. I feel your pain as well, so close and yet so far lol. Someone needs the come up with a shop for east and west coast foods for those who made such a massive move.

I’m another older lady and I’m on a disability pension , one day I made some family size meals for my 2 year old grandson , dividing it up into snack size ziplock bags and froze them .. I made a tuna pasta bake , curried sausages and rice , a cottage pie and a savoury chicken dish with rice , all with several vegetables in them …I ended up with about 80 small meals for him .. One day when I was very sore and tired I thought I’d try one of his meals and with a slice of crusty bread it was just right ( I often eat too much just because it’s there ) so easy and quick . I worked out the cost and it was something crazy like 30 cents a serving ….now that is all I eat for my dinners ….I have a yoghurt for breakfast , a sandwich for lunch and a hot dinner ……it has saved me so much money having them in the freezer and I’m eating healthier and only a plate to wash after dinner 😊

@@1nicenurseI make simple foods and I use the regular recipes I have always made for my family, not special GF ones. I have always cooked from scratch so I just substitute a GF flour blend for the regular flour. GF can be a bit dry, so often just adding a spoonful of yogurt or sour cream to a regular recipe is enough to fix it. I buy from Vitacost and their house brand flours are good and economical. I get a 2 lb box of GF flour blend for the price of a 1 lb bag at the grocery store. The only thing you probably need a gf recipe for is bread and there are lots of websites but I don't make bread. I make a single serving bread for my toast by mixing 1 Tbls almond flour, 1 Tbls gf flour, 1/4 tsp baking powder, one egg and a dash of olive oil. Can add cinnamon, berries or other flavorings. Fry it in a pan like a pancake.

Love these! Thanks for the tip about arrowroot/cornstarch. I have thrown away containers of spices and boxes of cake and brownie mixes and packets of seasonings because they became hard or tasted "off". It's nice to know how to make fresh mixes when I need them. I saw on another channel where putting plastic wrap over your blender before putting on the lid keeps all of that powder from getting on the inside of the lid, making cleanup easier.

Thank you! Your video popped up on my screen. I may have to buy some commercial flour to mix up some pancake and brownie mix for my daughter. I use our wheat berries and mill my own but that would go rancid. So it’s not beneficial to me. But your spice mixes I can definitely try that. Brown sugar I’ve heard about for making my own. Powdered sugar I purchase raw cane sugar and that is brown. But if it goes inside a recipe, I can definitely do that as well. Unfortunately I have to use up my current stock before making my own. But definitely the pancake and brownie mixes. Great gift ideas. Thank youI

I too make my own mixes for about 40 years now! It saves alot of money especially on the spice and herb mixes. I make many of the ones you did and a few others. I do my own hot chocolate mix with dry milk, pumpkin pie spice is so easy and the best in savings! I also make my own herb flavored bread crumbs and coatings too. Great to share this idea with others who may not realize how easy doing these things are as well as huge savings and the ability to always have them around! Loved this video!

@@seedandsparrowhomestead my mom did this the entire time I was growing up. I was a teenager the first time I had some instant storbought mixes and was so disappointed as Mom’s mixes were always so much better lol. So I make my own now also and I get excited when I find a recipe for something I did not have. I also garden and can my fruit and veggies as my parents did now as well. I hated those things as a kid but wow am I grateful to my grandparents and parents for the skills they taught us. Hubby used to tease me that I was always preparing for the 5,000 lol but during covid, we seldom had to go to the store and we were able to help our friends and neighbors in our very small community to get through the covid lockdowns. That was when he began taking a serious interest in our food preserving. So he has bought us a second pressure canner and we are looking at getting a freeze drying machine as well. We also make most of our own breakfast cereals (cornflakes, raisin bran - although I prefer it with crasins, grape nuts, rice crispies, and a variety of granolas). I now live in Scotland and must confess I miss snack crackers, so have been searching the internet for recipes for goldfish; cheezits, wheat thins, and so on. Thank you for sharing.cooking from scratch takes time, but it is so much better nutritionally, economically, environmentally, and even flavor wise. 💚

🍪 I've seen folks add molasses to sugar to make brown sugar. Rendering molasses as a byproduct of sugar is a step in the process of making refined sugars from sugar cane. Adding molasses to refined white sugar is simply adding back what was once taken away. If you're making brown sugar for an isolated recipe, you can just add granulated sugar to the recipe and then add a desired amount of molasses without having to mix them together ahead of time. You can also get away with just using refined white sugar if you don't have molasses. It does impart a delicious flavor for many recipes.
