The Roman Research Trust is a charity that supports research and promotion of all aspects of the archaeology of Roman Britain. Neil Holbrook, CA’s CEO, is the current chair of the charity. Every two years the Trust sponsors a public lecture, and this year will be its first foray online via a free Zoom talk.
We have chosen as our topic for this year Seeing Slavery in Roman Britain which will be presented by Dr Jane Webster of Newcastle University, a renowned expert in this field. Slavery in the Roman period is an uncomfortable but important topic for us today, and one that continues to have modern resonance. Most of the evidence for Roman slavery tends to come from the Mediterranean provinces of the Roman empire but, in this interesting and thought-provoking lecture, Jane will explore the British evidence.
