So I have been on this earth for over 50 years now. In my time here I have had the opportunity not only to work on many types of equipment, but also work with many people over the years. It has been my experience that the most kind, hard working genuine people come from farming and working the land. I don't mean to take away from the non farmers, but if I could pick someone to have my back it would be good people like this. I have said this before but thank you for all your hard work! 🤟🥰

Grant, you was asking about removing the lift assist and moving the tanks forward on the planter. Does your tractor has the lift capacity to lift the planter with the tanks fully full if you take the assist off? Maybe that is why the planter has lift assist.

A lot of solid engineering went into designing and building the tank and lift wheel configuration you don’t like. You should try it before you think about re-engineering it all. You might see the wisdom after you have some experience with it. You have enough to worry about in the short run just getting the row units running. As a general rule, don’t bite off more than you can chew: You are in the business of farming. Designing planters and other major equipment is a job for John Deere (and their worthy experienced competitors). It’s admirable how farmers think they can tackle anything and they are often right. But marshal your resources including time. If you really want a planter with a different tank and wheel arrangement, it probably makes sense to sell this one and buy one that is designed more to your liking.

I'm a pretty small farmer compared to you guys. In 2007 I bought a four row 7000 plateless, from the neighbor here that deals and equipment and we rebuilt it and updated it to precision meters and a fine piece of equipment, we pull ours or the red tractor Case IH LOL but we really like it. It's been a good planner the updates have made it even better but I learned at that time how to set the gauge wheels and set the disc openers and so on ours is conventional and valuable lessons I'll never forget.

As for your central commodity system(seed tank) you'll have to make brackets for the planter bar to mount them on...keep in mind you will transfer a LOT of weight by doing this. As for your fertilizer lines you can get an aftermarket pro pump to run from your tanks to the lines...if your lines are plumbed right. You'll also need to get a good rate controller monitor for the cab.

I will second the weight shift! Taking time to calculate is a smart recommendation. Having liquid fertilizer tanks at front can partially offset but remember they are not full all the time. Good luck

myself, I would leave the tank where it is, lift-wheels and all; it makes a bigger 'footprint', but that same footprint gives you a bit more room to work in when stuff has to be fixed or maintained... an engineer designed the planter that way FOR A REASON, and he (or she) probably consulted with mechanics, farmers, and fabricator throughout every step of the process... you probably COULD put the tank above the planting wheels, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Part of mud build up is from distants between gauge wheel & disk. Gauge wheel can be adjusted by moving shims on arms. Gauge wheels should be just touching to a small gap. I have many years with this type of row unit planting sugar beets, soybeans & edible beans. Lot of maintenance but work well.

Definitely leave the seed tanks where they are until you use the planter. It’s nearly impossible to reengineer something without first having examples of things that work and things that don’t work. Otherwise you’re using a hypothesis to render your final design.
@bobstratton6362
@bobstratton6362 2 жыл бұрын
Don't re-invent the wheel. JD probably already tried that because it cost a bunch extra money to manufacture that. Can the tractor pick up that much weight without the assist? Can the wings fold properly with tanks in the way? Can you put additional scrapers inside the gauge wheels? Seem like poor design to pack that much mud in there not to mention the additional weight. Laura, I love both you two together, but for god's sake, wear safety glasses especially when working with springs. I have a friend who is blind in one eye at 21 because of a flying spring, Detached retina and unrepairable.
