Bringing an international flavour to the festival, the Delaware Choral Scholars and their renowned conductor Dr Paul Head bring a brilliant programme that truly ‘crosses the pond’ from one of the United States’ finest composers Morten Lauridsen to contemporary Brits, Paul Mealor and Jonathan Dove, via one of the great choral masterpieces, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and American Spirituals.
Dove’s Seek Him that Maketh the Seven Stars is a piece all about light and stars. The anthem begins with a musical image of the night sky that sets the choir wondering who made them. The refrain ‘Seek him’ starts in devotional longing but is eventually released into a joyful dance, finally coming to rest in serenity.
